Sandman,

A file size limit for .bmp image attachment @ 19.5 KB is unreasonable as .bmp files are always larger than the same image in .jpg. This restriction will force users to convert or resize .bmp file to a sub standard or less resolution, and size file than .jpg file size set @ 97KB

I might add that:

.gif
.jpe
.jpeg
.png

Are unreasonable file size limits set @ 19.5KB limit.

.psd Adobe photo shop image format [for those who can afford the program] is not a major issue @ 19.5KB.

F.Y.I. .psd files can be opened, and edited by Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7+ (http://www.jasc.com/) and Ulead PhotoImpact 7+ (http://www.ulead.com/). Corel now owns Paint Shop Pro current version is 11 I believe.

I too feel the limits are low, and have had to compress photos for upload.

Would we sacrifice any thing else if these limits were changed?

(NG...I moved this to stand alone, good topic but did not want to HJ the other photo thread of the origianl post)

Oops. That was a mistake in the settings. I fixed it. All attachments must be below 100k and images can be no larger than 600 pixels wide or long. That should be plenty big enough. If we go much larger than that we will be using up disk space very fast and images will take too long to load for dialup users. If we all take a bit of time resizing our photos to 600 pixels and optimizing it to less than 100k we will conserve disk space and that will allow for more attachment uploads.

I would like very much to start adding photos to this category but for the life of me can't figure out how to do it. There doesnt seem anywhere where you can add an attachment.

I do have Adobe and am able to bring my photos down to the right size but cant seem to figure out how to upload (if that is the correct word) them on to the site.

Remember I am an old timer and if someone could spell it out to me in simple language of one syllable words I would appreciate.

I haven't a clue how to do this since the site was improved(?). There doesn't seem any place to add an attachemnt. I do have Adobe and can get my pics down to correct size but haven't a clue on how to upload(?) them on to the site.

Would really appreciate it if someone could help out this old timer, using basic English terms and with words of not more than one syllable.

when you click reply scroll down a bit and you should see additional options. In that section will be "manage attachments"

The rest should be fairly self explanitory...Let us know if we can help

The inline images are still being reduced to showing a thumbnail that isn't allowed to be taller than the original setting of 200 pixels. I deleted the attachment and uploaded the file again and edited the message. It still created a thumbnail and shows that with the option to click on the thumbnail to view the full size image.

Testing attachment

Attachment is 600 x 432 pixels, file size is 77.3 KB which is 7.5" x 5 3/8th " on my monitor. [Landscape format]

Reduced/resized from 1238 x 933 pixels, file size 342KB

vBulletin does make a thumbnail attached to the message.

YOUR SUPPOST TO CLICK OR DOUBLE CLICK ON THE THUMBNAIL TO OPEN THE IMAGE TO FULL SIZE!

Test attaching 8 attachments [new pictures for CFI Photos of Freedom] Test only. None are resized, all were under 100KB.

Don't forget to click on each thumbnail to open picture to full or sent size.

Do not X out the full size image, hit the back arrow to return to the Thumbnails, then click on the next picture thumbnail you want to see at full size.

To download a full size image, Right click and "Save Picture As", or go down to properties to see the picture information as to size w & h file size etc.

Enjoy, & hope this helps you attach and view single and multiple attachments, and download picture information and/or image to your system Hard Drive and selected folder.

It's pretty simple. Try to give me an idea of what you are doing and I'll help you from there, or PM me and we'll walk through it. This system is easy, you might just be looking in the wrong place. We'll get you up and going

Oh and hey did you try this yet http://www.clothesfreeforum.com/showthread.php?t=10304

ercNY - Thanks I will give this a try in a couple of weeks. My wife and I are off to Terra Cotta for 2 weeks naked in sun and certainly wont waste any of that time fooling around trying to post pictures but I will give it a try again when I get back.
