Although rec.nude has been a vast wasteland lately, you can still find relevent news there sometimes. Like the following link:

Hmmmm. Since I am new here, the system says I must remove the url tags. So you will have to cut and paste. Sorry for the inconvenience? Apparently that is not enough. This is
getting tiresome. I removed the H T T P stuff, and it still bounces. Let me try removing the W W W.
Maybe someone with "Link posting rights" could post the full link.

Here is a partial quote:
"Nudists, amorous couples and others who used the Seashore as their pleasure ground this summer were shocked when they were served $75 to $175 citations for baring their bodies and/or engaging in sexual acts in public. It was not the tickets that bothered them so much as the manner in which they received them."

Yet another reason to spend our vacation dollars elsewhere.

Thanks....I corrected the link.

FYI....A policy in place requires 10 posts under your belt for certain permissions. This prevents spammers and helps in other ways. Keep posting, and contributing. MOst of all enjoy the site

sounds like the rangers are a bunch of peeping toms (hiding in the dunes)

fine people $75 for non sexual nudity is pointless/unnecessary

From the Banner article:
"In a phone interview on Monday, National Seashore Chief Ranger Steve Prokop acknowledged that the park does in fact employ undercover rangers to enforce some of the illegal activities going on in the park (nudity and public sex are prohibited by law in the Seashore). He said the Seashore has received a number of complaints from visitors to the park who have come across couples or even groups of people having sex in plain view. “The tenor of the letters has been, this is appalling behavior and what is the park going to do about it?” Prokop said."

I support the ticketing for having sex on the public beach, in the dunes (protected lands), and where others may come upon you. It is simply a lack of good judgment when one engages in behavior like that.

As for the ranger ticketing the person after they leave the beach for simply sunbathing nude, I do not support that. Simple nudity, in itself, is nothing to get upset about. Before I return to the Cape, I will see what the law actually states as to "simple nudity." I found the statement by Prokop, cited above, bewildering. Simple nudity on Federal lands is not specifically covered by any law. Local jurisdiction can supercede the lack of law on Federal land, so will seek the answers.

It brings to mind the local news coverage of the ticketing on Assateague and Chincoteague on the Maryland seashore. Numerous times this summer, I have read of or seen stories on local TV about the tickets being handed out in those locations.

I would discourage people from having sex on a public beach, because it could become an excuse to prohibit nude sunbathing. I imagine it would be annoying too, but its not dangerous to anyone, and it doesn't destroy property, and it doesn't interfere with my activities, so I can't see how it should be the government's business.

If we want the world to be tolerant of what we do, we should be tolerant of what others do, even if we don't like it. Otherwise, why should we not expect the fashion police to fine us??

It may be interesting to note that several NPS locations are engaged in a period of enforcement followed by interesting local news coverage.

Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Acadia Park in Maine, and Canaveral Seashore in FL.

The "coincidental" incidences that have all occurred within about 2-3 weeks of each other are under investigation to determine what is going on and where this is coming from.

There is nothing else to share at this time - to early.

Could you provide a link to the article about Canaveral, or at least enough words so I could search for it? We plan to visit there in the near future, and agressive plainclothes "stings" could change our plans. I guess the Feds are done with Warnings. Sounds like they don't look favorably ofn the Paul Revere's among us who warn of their approach.
