I’ve put off writing this review long enough. I visited Hidden River Resort on the FL/GA border outside of Jacksonville, FL in September. I was excited to go based on the close proximity to Jacksonville, where I live. Only about 40 minutes away. Plus, I’ve read some nice things about it. Upon arrival, I wandered around the “office” area for about five minutes before a gentleman met me. Barley a word was said other than “fill this out, $25 please”. Very different from my previous experience at a different resort where I was greeted by several friendly employees, offered a tour and general friendly small talk. I was directed where to park and, while driving to the parking area, was stopped by a woman in a golf cart. I stopped and said hello, smile on my face. Her response; “do I know you?”. Turns out she was the owner and apparently a little protective of her resort. We chatted for a minute and her scowl eventually turned to a marginal smile. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the day. I did meet 3 people that were friendly, but everybody else saw me as the outsider and treated me as such. Maybe it was my age. At 37 years old, I was a good 15+ years younger then most people there.
The one positive comment I have for Hidden River is that they have a great nature trail. Thickly wooded paths that graze a portion of the river with plenty of wildlife to observe. I hate giving a less then positive review but I’m struggling to find anything else positive to say. Clearly the resort has its fans and that’s great. The nudist community is just as diverse as any other group of people. I’m happy for the people who have made Hidden River their resort of choice. As for me, my search continues.
