View Full Version : Anyone Administer MS SBS 2003?

My company currently outsources its network and server functionality to another company. After looking at the $$ spent on various IT expenditures with a consultant, they advised that we could probably save a considerable amount by bringing the network and server administration in-house and doing it ourselves.

The solution they suggested is a Windows Small Business Server 2003 architecture.

We currently occupy 6 application servers with our outsource company, but we will probably attempt to consolidate that to 5 servers in-house.

My questions to anyone out there who has expertise are:

1) Have you ever administered (or currently administer) a Win SBS 2003 environment?
2) What is the complexity of adding additional servers to the core SBS server (such as a stand-alone SQL server)?
3) What OS do you run on the additional servers? (I'm thinking SBS core with MS Server 2003 auxilliary servers)
4) What is the complexity of adding a SAN or NAS for user files?
5) Is there a better recommendation for OS and server architecture? (MS options only. Our company will not move away from MS due to compatibility with core business software.)

At this point we're exploring our options and I'm reading tons of material. But, since it seems that there is usually someone on CFI that can answer any question, I thought I'd see what anyone here had to say.

We have looked at this some more and have decided to go to the full-blown Windows Server 2003 OS for all of our servers.
