Well, winter is slowly arriving. Outdoor temps are hovering aroun 0 degrees C, and the beach is a distant memory now ! After an excellent summer in Canada, we can only now think of our neighbors to the far south, and how lucky they are to have year round outdoor activities.

Please post ideas for fellow Canadians to continue nudist activity through these long dark months.

best regards,
Rob

That would be farther south than me in NC. Tomorrow it supposed to dip down to about 28F (about -2C). And the cold months are supposed to be Jan and Feb!

The thing I enjoy doing nude in winter is shovel the back porch off. That's how I got the pic for my avatar. Now I admit, once it goes below +20F I'm out there less and less. But the nice part of it for me is I start a fire in the wood stove in the kitchen, throw on the hat, boots and gloves and go shovel, if I get chilled I just come in and warm the bod by the stove (careful!!!).

For recreation the only thing I've come up with so far is the hot tub and a couple of rolls in the snow to break up the monotony.

It gets a bit cold at night here in southern California. We are already using the fireplace at night to take the chill off.

I too dislike this time of year. The days are shorter, the cold kicks in, as do the allergies. Maybe one day I'll win the lottery or something, and be able to live in St. Martin or Hawaii. Until then I'll just have to learn to live with the colder months like it or not. The only activity this time of year you can do is hot tubbing, a little free hiking, or visiting a club.

I agree, this time of year seems to be too long, and the days too short.

If you are looking for great indoor activities; invite friends for potlucks, game nights, movies, etc...
This is a great time for activities that allow social and privacy at the same time, and while limited to the indoors, at least we are staying connected. Sure makes the winter go by faster this way.

Here in central California, the nights and morning hours are starting to cool off a bit. But the afternoons have been great. The temps have been in the 70's and the sun has been out. Sorry to say,it's supposed to begin to cool off during the days starting tomorrow. So my 'outdoor nude time' will only be confined to the sun when it peaks out from behind the clouds and/or fog. Indoors, haven't turned the heater on yet, but that time of year isn't too far away. It's still 'nude' as usual. :smoking:

I could have sworn I moved to SC 14 yrs. ago to be warm during the autumn and winter. BRrrrrr. Dropped into the 30s at night these past few days. I'm glad by the weekend we'll be in a warming trend. I did get under the covers au naturale and stayed warm but that might have been because of the electric mattress pad we have.

I do wish we'd have DST all year long.

Sorry guys but its the other way down here. We are now moving into the warmer months, great week ahead with temps in the 20's (celsius), hm nice!
Have started to brush up the seamless tan and making plans for visits to the beach, camping and resorts. I hope it is a long warm summer.

I really wish there was a clothing optional B&B somewhere in the mountains… We can go to Steamboat and visit Strawberry Springs after dark but it’s a little far and just not the same…. Hmmm may be I’ll open the B&B.

This thread is a bit of a HOT topic (joke). In any event I see a lot of people posting in this thread from the deep south. It is a bit of a shame that you guys don't get to experience several months of hard winter weather. To be totally blunt it can be damn depressing at times. This time of the year it is totally possible to go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. As far as getting naked, even in the home that is hard to do, wearing heavy socks and a tee right now.

I could have sworn I moved to SC 14 yrs. ago to be warm during the autumn and winter. BRrrrrr.

I've thought about the move south myself, but then you have to much heat during the summer. What I'd really love to do is to be able to travel based on the weather or time of the year.

Dropped into the 30s at night these past few days. I'm glad by the weekend we'll be in a warming trend.

Funny that is colder thn it is here in NY.

I did get under the covers au naturale and stayed warm but that might have been because of the electric mattress pad we have.

au natural is the only way to sleep. Up here though we do that under a few blankets.

I do wish we'd have DST all year long.

Personally I think the short days would be easier to deal with if I could simply get outside reliably and enjoy a bit of sun.

Cheri

The funny thing about winters is if you grew up with them you don't realize how depressing they can be. I got my lesson in this years ago when sent on a trip for work to what was the green of California. It is amazing what stepping off the airplane and being surrounded by green can do for ones attitude. While late in life it is one of the reasons I made a point to do vacations, well south of here, during mid winter. This the opposite of what I did in my youth which was to take vacation upstate, in the summer and hunker down in the winter.

I traveled through Colorado once and was very much impressed with the beauty of the state. I thought seriously about a camp ground there. Well seriously up and till looking at he cost of real estate in the mountains. Unfortunately I'm not in the position of even doing the money down required.

I'd actually like to take a driving vacation though the western states. The problem is doing it in way that one isn't pressed for time.

If it makes you feel any better...
The average High temp in Minneosta this time of year is 40F. By the end of November it is Below Freezing.

The average overnight Low temp is already below freezing, and soon will be in the teens or single didgits.

Today it's pretty nice. Just over 50F. I spent about 1/2 hour nude outside. Ahhhh, the fresh air!

But as Nu said. Wait untill January! when we often don't get above Zero F for days at a time.

I'll be Praying for a South Wind.

I would have probably moved to Florida some time ago if it weren't for all the off-season nudist activity we have here in New England....

Off to a private event tomorrow -- and in December, three more either club, or private parties, or other events.

Nudism doesn't stop when the autumn leaves drop....

I am totally disappointed -- Al Gore promised us warm winters! :disappointed:

Meantime, planning a "Caribbean Dreaming" party next month -- perhaps replicable for Canadians, Rob! We will turn up the furnace for the evening, provide a tropical fruit buffet, beach towels to sit on, margarita drinks with little umbrellas, and the invitations will specify "beachwear" -- which our friends know in our case means nothing! If your friends don't know you are naturist, it could be a great coming-out party idea!

Here is a sample of our winter. The dog is a lab cross and weighs about 70 pounds. Her head is about my hip level and I am 5'7". That was March 2007......and it was STILL snowing!

You guys in the southern US don't know cold! ;)

As I sit here in my home outside of Philly, I'm FREEZING. I have a heavy sweatshirt and sweatpants on and am sippint on hot cocoa. A few minutes ago I checked and, yes, my roommate did turn the heat down to some god-forsaken temperature that should kill us both by morning..... except that I turned up the heat because I don't want to die! LOL I'm sick of the cold already. But I'll be all warm and toasty in a minute inside my electric blanket (nude, of course) sipping on my hot cocoa. Life was made for such mooments as this.....

I don't use an electric blanket but do love the flannel sheets we kepp on the bed all winter. Almost as good as the electric blanket, and easier to regulate. They are suprisingly warm on the coldest of nights, and it keeps me sleeping nude and comfortable all winter.

I grew up in Massachusetts where the winter is BRUTAL. After graduating from college, I attended college in upstate NY where the winter there is pretty bad as well. After college, I moved to NYC. NYC winter isn't as bad as Boston or upstate NY but still cold. 4 months ago I moved to Washington DC and the winter is quite mild but cold nonetheless. I now wear clothes at home unless I am going to bed.

I have always fancied moving down south to So. FL but considering my mother lives there, I have abandoned the idea.

Which college?

After college, I moved to NYC. NYC winter isn't as bad as Boston or upstate NY but still cold.

I live a bit outside of Rochester NY, one year I had fresh snow in my driveway 28 days in a row. It wasn't always a deep accumulation but after awhile you just want to leave even if you have to hike.

Well I've visited Florida a few times and haven't been impressed. Very expensive and frankly nasty people, but maybe I was in the wrong areas. Georgia doesn't look to bad if you stay well away from the Atlanta metro area.

I am not all that impressed with So. FL myself but I wouldn't mind living there for a while.

Either way, I only plan on living in DC for 4yrs then I will move back to NYC afterwards

I went to LDS yesterday when it was pushing 70 degrees thinking that it will probably be the last time this year to be nude outdoors. It was nice in the sun but too cold in the shade. There were only about a dozen fully nude people, some others were partially nude, but quite a few were fully clothed. It seems odd to me that the first time it gets to 70 in the spring, it feels a lot warmer that when it's 70 degrees in the fall!

Not at all when you think about it. The actual weather trails the solar season by a month or two. The shortest day of the year is in December whereas the coldest months are January and February. The reason 70 seems warmer in the Spring than in the Fall is because in the Spring the sun is much higher in the sky so you get more direct solar heat on your body. In the Fall the sun is much lower in the sky and the solar heat is therefore that much less.

So far, we've had a mild Fall/Winter here in the Northeast. Yes, some cold weather and the furnace runs more than it did several months ago, but at least I can keep it comfortable enough to be nude indoors! If I am home, I am nude. We will have that and worse this winter. Last year we had a lot of -30 in November. It was just plain rude because there was no time to acclimatize. It isn't so bad in January because that is when you expect it and you have had time to get used to the idea.

I ordered the new coat....it will come in next week. I am sure we will have a heat wave then!

Oh, and I have been naked in -30 temps......it was at a hotspring I will admit, so quite lovely!

When more snow comes it is nice to be naked and make angels in the snow. Of course we do them between sauna sessions. If you do not angels in the snow you sit out in the cold naked between sauna hot sessions. It is very relaxing. Try it.

I used to go onto the porch in Vermont to get more wood, without bothering to get dressed.

It was a good time in NJ to enjoy getting together at friends' houses or a YMCA for indoor nudist fun. Our swimming pool contractor had a hot tub right outside the back door. I can imagine using them without getting dressed. (However, we usually kept dressed inside, as we kept our house in NJ at 55 as we do here; heating bill in NJ for heat PLUS hot water ran about $400 for the YEAR; here, our all-electric bill last month was $74.)

Here in Virginia, it gets warm enough in the afternoons for nude activity, sometimes with a t-shirt for warmth if not working directly in the sun. That's the way I was yesterday. The day before, I shucked the shirt and took a nude hike along the creek.

It won't be long now before the flakes start to fly and Old Man Winter makes his appearance. Oh how I long for warm spring weather and the enjoyment of basking in the warm rays under a deep blue sky.
I'm not really one to take in winter activities, I love spring and summer!
The only place to be naked now is inside close to a register or fireplace. The cold and I don't get along.

It's interesting how everyone compares how cold it is and that where they live it's the coldest. Let's face, it's cold at -20F to +20F. The problem I have is when the wind kicks up to 20+ MPH at say 0F, then it's untolerably bitterly cold, good ol wind chill.

I live on the Colorado River in Arizona...one of the hotter places to be in the summer, but it still gets cold in the winter. Night temps below freezing are not uncommon. But...then you have the nice, sunny days where the temps warm to the 60's or more and it feels like a summer day at the beach!

Almost all Canadians and Minnesotans are already here...what are you waiting for?

birmingham (the one in alabama - lol!) sits in a geographic area where cold and warm air masses are constantly doing battle. so the weather this fall & winter has been real variable: warm, springlike weather that lasts a day or so, followed by cold weather. not enough rain, tho. and the warm weather doesn't seem to last long enough for me to get to my acreage outside of town to enjoy nature naturally.

sigh.

Birmingham, Alabama sounds a lot like Taiwan in winter.
Here we also have various air masses doing battle, a cold front from northern China staying for a day or 5 before being driven away by pleasant warm air. And after a couple days, things change around again.

The only places where it's never cold in winter are the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Though I can tell you it really rains a lot in Singapore.
