Can't upload them here after the change to the new forum format. We only have two categories for images, and this does not apply to either.

I've never painted, or been painted, but have always wanted to - it looks so fun.
Just a question for those with experience - is the paint cold on your body?

seems like fun -- as well as a challenge for the artist and the human canvas as well. i've modeled for drawing classes and photography but never been painted. would like to try it sometime.
this thread reminds me of a book i learned of when i was working as an editor. i believe the title was "ecorché." the book was published by an american university press (i want to say u. of kansas, but i'm not certain.) it took a new approach to teaching human anatomy by having medical illustrators paint very accurate musculature on a live model, then photograph the model in numerous positions. for the purpose of comparison they also photographed the model without the paint.
as i recall, the painting took several hours, and was grueling for both the model and the artists. in addition, in order to facilitate the extremely detailed quality of the painting, the model had to shave his entire body (with the exception of his pubis).
to make the model feel more comfortable, they raised the room temperature to something like 90 degrees, but he still got cold!

here is fuller information about the book i mentioned in the earlier post:
Visualizing Muscles: A New Ecorché Approach to Surface Anatomy, by John Cody, M.D. Lawrence, KS: University Press of Kansas, 1990.
if you go to amazon and enter "ecorche" in the search field, this is one of the first books to appear. great book for artists or for anyone interested in musculature and anatomy.
incidentally, the work "ecorché" means "skinned" or "flayed" in french. ouch!

I think Nude Bodypainting is one of the most beautiful forms of art there is. The patience and endurance needed by both the artist and the human canvas, the human form integrated into the painting. I am in awe whenever I see bodypainting art.

amazing work. dare say brilliant. not sure i "like" all of it, but the thought process and the workmanship are very, very impressive. my sense is that if bodypainting gains acceptance in the mainstream as a "legitimate" form of art (whatever THAT means...) it will be at least in part because of emma hack's work.

Yeah...I REALLY enjoyed the wallpaper series...the accuracy there is amazing.

I agree with steve-o. Body painting is a great art form. The human body is a much nicer canvas than a piece of cloth, lol!
I would suspect that the results might work out better if the person (the one being painted, not the painter) is shaved.

wow, incredible detail. i particularly like the b&w image with the mask.

I've been painted several times ...depending on the detail of the job, I had to be still for 2 to 7 hours....it can be grueling, especially if the room is chilly, but so rewarding to see the final product..
