We are trying to decide where to go on holiday next year, and a place which keeps entering my head is Croatia. We will be driving from the UK, and if we went to Croatia I would be planning a stop en route in the Alps somewhere. I would like to know if there are still naturist/clothing optional possibilities here. Anyone any ideas?

Croatia is an EXELLENT naturist location!!! It's cheap, warm, beautiful and very nudist-friendly. I was at (now closed) Monsena in Rovinj (near Slovenia and Italy) in 2001 and 2002. Valalta and Koversada are supposed to be good resorts nearby.
There's a great website that can be of help to you - http://www.cronatur.com/index.htm
As you look for stuff on teh net, remember that European nudist destinations often use the German abbreviation for nudist - "FKK".

In September Ryanair's "in flight" magazine rated Valalta as one of Europe's best nude spots . I don't know about that, made it to the front gate but the Irish woman I was with didn't want to go in. I went to Cava beach Dubrovnik in the Babin Kuk neighborhood it was OK, small, not many people for a warm late September weekend. I got to say that the men walking about the trail above the beach weren't cool. I spent half a day at an auto camp south of Pula. That was nice but didn't spend too much time. I got a great feel from a place called Ulika outside of Porec.

Croatia's a great country for naturism, though most of its large-scale resorts seem to be bunched together up north, in Istria, close to Italy.
Apart from the resorts, there are also free beaches in many locations, including on the island of Lokrum off Dubrovnik, the Red Island off Rovinj, etc.
I spent a short holiday at Valalta near Rovinj three years ago.
While I liked the overall atmosphere, the beaches, and the walk up the hill, one thing that surprised me was that inside the buildings - in the restaurant and the supermarket - you were supposed to wear clothes.
I had counted on not wearing any clothes all during my stay, but instead, after my morning walk, I had to return to my room to get dressed, have breakfast at the restaurant, return to my room to get undressed and go to the beach, get dressed again for lunch, etc, etc.
There was a snackbar on the beach though where that un-naturist rule didn't apply.
I guess each naturist resort has its only regulations and you might want to check those out before you go.
