View Full Version : Closing old topics?

I was just readig the Kids Erections thread, when I realized it was a 2002 thread that was "rescussitated" by someone. This happens once in a while: you think you're responding to a live thread, when in fact the thread has been dead for a few years. Wouldn't it be more practical to close threads after a certain period of time? Maybe six months or so after the last post?
Dunno; just asking.

I hear what you are saying, but there is no harm in it. In fact some time it may be good.
Of course we should all be aware of when threads originated.

Additionally Good Conversation can come from anywhere why shut it down, unless it gets out of hand?

Can you name some examples, in this forum or any other forum on the entire internet, where thread necromancy has been beneficial?

If a topic is dead its dead, and no one will post on it. If someone revives a thread then obviously someone has either a new perspective on it, or at least some interest, so why should they not be able to post?

Clearly not the case in the thread that prompted this discussion. Or any other that I can recall.

If the referenced topic/thread was a general topic not answered in five years yes I could see leaving it open.
The referenced five year old topic was about someones young nephews who get erections seeing this posters young daughters naked.
This post is very suspect from the beginning:
Poster not from an international location. Post not about international naturists, but posted there anyway. [misplaced]
Posters profile has no Gender, DOB, Age, and was an Import.
Poster has not replied or posted since this post five years ago.
All of the above is the reason this particular thread was set to a Read Only topic/thread, and closed.
I see no reason to leave open, and it's highly unlikely the original poster will ever reply or continue this thread, and was most likely someone fishing for responses on young naked Kids, and Kids with erections.
Original Post in International Naturists :
I am rita, mom of 2 daughters ---we have always been nudists and we are all smooth--my problem is with my nephews wo com and visit often----they are closet nudists, but when they see my girls they immediatly get erections--my boether thinks its just their being kids---his wife thinks its neat ----help

Thread should not be closed simply because they are old. For example, some annual events like the World Naked Bike Ride may not have a post for a year until the next ride. It's nice to be able to bring up the topic from last years ride.
I do agree that some threads should be closed, I just don't think we should close all topics after a certain time period.

I started a thread with a little one line joke to lighten everybody's day and it is having the opposite effect. It is turning into a rather testy political/philisophical debate that is making me very sorry that I ever started it. What can I do about it? :o

Stop reading the thread.
It's about all you can do. The Debaters on here will turn almost anything into a reason to argue.
As for the old threads, Most of us look at the date posted by a threads first or last post. But there will always be some that get dragged back out of the archives. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's not.
But unlike our lawmakers, we shouldn't repress the good, just to avoid a little bad stuff from popping up now and then.

I started the thread: http://www.clothesfreeforum.com/showthread.php?t=558 (http://www.clothesfreeforum.com/showthread.php?t=558).

P.S. I have no idea why the poll is gone. It may have something to do with the switch to the new website hosting software and/or server.

I wanted old threads to be closed. However, I was outvoted. Not only that but the opposition was strong and well thought out.

I guess so, thanks. It's just that I feel guilty, having had good intentions to lighten things up and wound up stirring up this tempest. It makes me ill to go there. Guess I'll make one last post and apologize for getting it started and then abandon it. :disappointed:
Thanks again.

In the old version of the forums, if the original poster deleted their original post, the thread disappeared. Don't think that works any more.

I saw a moderator write once that a thread could be closed if the original poster requested it be. Whether or not that is still accurate, you would have to ask the powers that be.

Thanks, Walter. I appreciate it. I feel kind of guilty and sick at the turmoil that I created just because I wanted to post a joke....anyway,thanks again. :o

I contacted an administrator and asked about it; haven't heard back yet. Anyway, thanks to everybody...it almost makes up for feeling like a jerk for starting the whole mess.

Threadbare also posted a joke that led in the wrong direction.
People need to have a sense of humor.
