I give 10 points to the guy snorkling in the snow. I wonder if he saw any frozen fish there?

Great pics. I've been wanting to get up the courage to do more outdoor activities in the colder weather, although I have to admit that I don't deal with the cold as well as some folk. I've always been curious to know the various ways that clothes free folk deal with frigid temperatures.
Take care and stay bare (but also stay warm).

Looks fun, although I would be wearing some running shoes to do this.
There is just too much traffic and no tree cover around here. The loss of leaves on the trees is one of my least favorite things about winter time in Kansas City.

I am from New England originally, NH actually, anyways I made many a trips to the mailbox out at the street after dark. I would purposely leave until after dark just so I could strole up and back nude. Time of year or weather made no difference, well if it was below 20f I put on a robe but that was it. Many of times I found myself sitting on the ice after slipping. A few times I had to jump the snow back because of a on coming plow truck.

Great pic, Rich.
Generally I'm not outside nude during cold weather, but there have been a couple of exceptions:
1. Going between the sauna, hottub, and heated pool at the Richmond Sauna in ME. It was probably 20F or less, but no wind, and I was so thoroughly heated from the sauna that I wasn't even chilled. However, the ice was really cold to walk on!
2. Had one Feb day a few years ago where it was almost 60, still snow on the ground. Took advantage and did a nude hike on a local trail.
Haven't snow snorkeled yet...that might be too much!

I was cross country skiing yesterday, not far, but I did it.
Why? you might ask? As I told my wife, because I could. But it was quite cold.

I live in Connecticut and going outside just wearing a robe is about as far as I'm willing to go during the winter.

OK, so today we got 6" of new snow. I was in the hot tub by 6:30AM, made three snow angels of sorts in the snow, the first I went face down, then flopped onto the back and made the snow angel. The second I went face down and used my arms to throw snow onto my back and the third I went down on my back and tossed snow on top of me. These weren't the only times I was out of the tub, there were a number of other things too like running through the snow to the garage to get a GoreTex hat (I hate having snow land on my bald head), but I didn't roll in the snow on these other trips.
The thing about rolling in the snow is this: there's the burn you get being in the snow and then there's the burn you get when you get back in the hot tub (when the water feels so much hotter than when you left). From what I understand its these changes in temperature that generate the benefit of conditioning your body against cold and heat.
The only problem was I spent an hour in the tub and that was a bit too long, felt a little whoosy afterward.
Rich
PS Now tomorrow night we're expecting a foot of snow... :D

Naked in the snow sounds miserable. I don't see how it could be enjoyed, but if people do then whatever...

Brrrr...
Even with clothes on, I don't mind if I never see any snow again.

You guys do realize that the experience is measured in seconds don't you? I mean I'm not out there rolling in the snow for minutes on end. Probably the longest time I ever spent in the snow was the time I took the pic of me kneeing and tossing it on my head in a previous post, and that only lasted maybe 20 seconds and it was a sunny and a pretty warm day with the temp about 30. When I went out yesterday I don't think I was actually in the snow for more than 10-12 seconds on any given time. To boot remember that I'm very hot coming out of a hot tub. Its mostly about the shock to the skin. That's what conditions your body.
A good way to start is this: get the experience of being in a hot tub, outside, right after a snow. Then don't get out of the tub, just stand up, grab a handful of snow and rub it on your arms and shoulders. Then sit down again. From there work your way out of the tub and into the snow.
Out, flop and back in, fast.
Simple.
Another thing you can do that I really enjoy is shovel snow naked. I wear boots, gloves and a knit cap (see my avatar). The thing is, it has to be calm, no wind at all. Better if its sunny. And I fire up the wood stove in the kitchen and come in every few minutes to warm up (when I start to get chilled. You really only feel the cold through things that touch cold objects, so if you wear gloves and boots, you're not touching the ground or the shovel with bare skin. That's 75% of the battle right there. The hat insulates your head where 50% of the heat is lost, that's another 15-20% of the battle.

In my younger days in Colorado it was sauna time and then into the snow nude also did the same with the hot spring pools. Natural rush however now I know why my folks moved to Florida as they got older. Still I like where I am and going natural when I can.:laugh:

All this reminds me of something that happened a few years ago. I was in a hotel sauna in Stockholm, along with a mix of other people. The only one who spoke good English was a younger man from Finland, so he and I enjoyed a nice conversation while we were heating.
I asked him if it was true that, in his country, people run out from their saunas and jump through a hole in the ice. He said, emphatically, "Those people are crazy. I don't do that. I just roll in the snow."
