Did anyone else see this in Friday, December 1, 2006 paper? Jeremy is the main character and is 15 years old. I think this send a great body positive message out to teens. I wonder if I will get a top management position now!

Toadfish; at 15 I did basically the same thing. Never got to top management but had a lot of fun.
Never stop being a kid.

A lot of 15 year olds are probably exactly like Jeremy. I know I was when the house was empty. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

Thanks toadfish and Tampanude for sharing those laughs with us. Very funny. It's nice to see some of the cartoonists are open to 'comical' nudism. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

Tampanude; That reminds me of last week. I was washing dishes when the front door suddenly opened and my 18yr old daughter says "Hi Dad". She was already in the kitchen before I could dry my hands.
She retreated back to the hallway while I put on some clothes. And she never mentioned it again.

Thanks tampanude! I don't get that comic in my local paper. I did the same in my teens, never got busted though. Most of my aunts grew up in large families and had brothers and were familiar with male anatomy from taking care of younger ones. They were also pretty laid back and I don't think would have gotten too excited about someone going nude in the house.
I wish I could Jump like that LOL
my back would make me pay for it dearly.

Good for what? It's just more stereotypical affirmation of the body-phobic status quo in the USA... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif

I used to think that any publicity is good publicity. Of course that's not true, but this kind of thing, which draws attention to the fact that people like to be naked and sometimes even are naked while at home, is one of the good kinds of publicity.
It differentiates nudity from sex, and makes nudity a subject worthy of conversation by textiles...both good things.

i've never been in a house where you could do that. i mean, either it's a vaulted ceiling and therefore way too high for reaching a light fixture, or it's normal height and you'd still be visible through the door.
it's this kind of inaccuracy that makes me think comic strips are not actually documentaries at all, but are instead pure works of fiction. and they call themselves journalists!
((( i REALLY hope the comic strip (STRIP, get it?) finds the two of them face-to-face. )))

Well, good, good, it did turn positive. Now let's see where it goes from here... it may have socially redeeming qualities after all. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

I HOPE this comment is all tongue-in-cheek. The second paragraph made me think that it's a joke, but then I reread the first paragraph and it sounds like a serious comment.
Just in case kphoger really meant it, I'm going to say a comic strip like Zits is intended to tickle our collective funny bone by exaggerating normal human conditions that we've all lived through. It's not a documentary, and it wouldn't be funny if it was drawn to true life scale. I can't imagine that anyone drawing a humor cartoon strip would confuse himself with a journalist.
I've laughed at this whole series, because I recognize something of me in it. And I loved where it came out today.

Segnet:I wish I could Jump like that LOL
my back would make me pay for it dearly.
It's not only about being able to jump, it's also being light enough to be able to hand on it, and hope that it is not on! Ouch!
Moboy:"It's just more stereotypical affirmation of the body-phobic status quo in the USA"
Jeff Scott and Jim Borgman, the creators, are doing this strip based on stereotypes of typical teens. The good part is that they actually had their main character go naked. People here have talked about being caught and the embarassment. This is no different.

I would have to say they did their homework.
they hit the nail on the head. i was just like that. If i heard moms car pull up the drive I would make a mad dash to the bathroom on the other end of the house (in about 3 steps I think) where I would throw on some boxers or a pair of shorts, wait till she came in and then flushed the toilet and came out. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cool4.gif

I, for one, am enjoying the Zits strip. For me, it is bringing back many memories and funny iincidents as I began exploring the naturist life.
As to the jumps and hanging on light fixtures, it is comic. I for one never believed it is possible, but find it "comic" as I remember being so startled and worried about being caught to have seemingly jumped as high. Not all comic strips are socially concious or meant to be documentaries on "real" life. Take it for what this is, comic relief.

I really thought I was the only one who did this. I have many memories of doing this when I was growing up. I guess it wasn't so unusual after all.
Now I still do the same thing, with the kids gone. Unfortunately we waited until they were raised to get into naturism. Fortunately, although we have lots of windows, most of them are too far from our neighbors to be problematical, and those are avoided. I still love doing it, especially on sunny days where I can read and pretend I am on the beach in Florida.

the second paragraph was more tongue-in-cheek than the first, but they were both written in a spirit of humor, yes. sometimes, when i'm at my funniest, people think i'm serious. i learned that from my high school math teacher.
i just love the funny papers. we buy the sunday southern, and my wife goes for the coupons while i go for the funnies. the rest of the paper just ends up in the trash. everyone is looking forward to how this zits strip ends, but.....warning, warning, warning.....sometimes comic strips just break off in the middle of the story line. for all i know, that's the last one and the next will be about homework or dating.

i wonder if the strip would have made it into the papers if the figures had been drawn more lifelike. i mean, actual sketches of the human body. probably not, don't you think?

it seams that this strip has already been met with some censorship

Man, it's a shame I didn't find this thread until now. In a strip that was published about a month ago, one of the supporting characters (Sara, I think) admitted to sleeping naked.

When the character's "reaction" to nudity is consistently shock, embarrasment, or revulsion, it is difficult to see how this reflects a positive view. The latest in our paper "shows" Mom peeking out of the bathroom door and calling out to what's-his-name to stay out of sight while she seeks a towel down the hall. Thereupon we hear off camera alarm at very thought he might see his mother sans garment.
Really funny stuff alright.
