Amazing!
Public officials who understand the difference and are capable of dealing with one without trashing the other.
Bravo Pasco County.

Here is the wording of the new Pasco Amendment: http://www.pascocountyfl.net/agenda/2008/010808/BCC_LPA_01-08-2008/CAO08-0805_1_Intro_Ordinance.pdf
This is an explicitly worded amendment that passed quickly 5-0 last evening. Pasco County Commissioner Pat Mulierai, who's district encompasses the large nudist resorts of the county, assured both Caliente and Paradise Lakes management that they were not being targeted nor is social nudity itself expressly forbidden under the new amendment. As she has been a staunch advocate for the nudist resorts of Pasco County and aware of the enormous tax dollars generated by nudist tourism to the county, all of us wish this to be true.
For the back story of this new amendment, last September a swing club called Club Elite-Tampa opened its doors in the SR 19 Port Richey location that once housed a biker bar called Critters. From all reports, the bar lived up to its reputation as a watering hole for the Hell's Angels, Heaven's Devils and the most notorious of all biker gangs, Eric Von Zipper and the Ratz Revenge. On a biweekly basis differences of opinion would crop up of the usual kind- "That's my woman. You talk to her, you talk to me." :shout: shocked Naturally some of these would culminated in a flurry of fisticuffs, followed by the sound of police sirens. But nothing is forever and sometime back the last Harley rolled out and Critters closed its doors.
In place of the beer belly and tattoo crowd, a new and arguably lower key establishment opened up in the strip mall above the bakery shop. Each evening a better if more provocatively dressed clientele driving Escalades and Porsches, BMW's and Corvettes would pull into the parking lot, couples decidedly more upscale than the previous tenants drew. But there was one fly in the ointment, these were swingers! Yup right here in River City.
So the full armada of city and county officials, the same ones who had failed for years to close the strip clubs on SR 19, pooled all their legal and oratory skill together (along with the help of tax dollars of Pasco County residents) to do scorched Earth battle against the abhorred Club Elite-Tampa. On the media side Tampabay 10 did its part to titillate the television audience with a report that included the usual suspects, a frightened mother with three sticky kids, a startled oldster from central "Aunt Bea" casting and lastly, a swinging couple who though well-intentioned would be the last ones from a visual standpoint one would choose as advocates for the lifestyle.
Pasco County Sheriff Bob White, who has always languished in the limelight of Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee and that ultimate Emmy and Oscar award-winning celebrity Sheriff, Grady Judd of Polk County, went to work. The only question is whether or not Sheriff White is deploying undercover officers in the pursuit of morality and justice. At this point the whole tawdry episode is just getting started. In the upcoming months look for indignant high profile attorneys making corny quotes about the First Amendment and Bob Whites people to come back with a report that Club Elite-Tampa is something more than just a garden variety party. It's populated by P.A.G.A.N.'s (People Against Goodness And Normalcy.)
Personally I don't see this as a good thing at all, that is the government ganging up on a certain subset of the population simply because they don't like their point of views. Especially in this context when there is far less physical harm being done than what occurred at the old establishment.
I'm not really trying to support swingers here either, what bothers me is if they are successful here there is little reason not to believe they won't focus on something else afterwards. The boost in energy and euphoria that one gets after a victory they may get here just gets focused on other parts of the community. Frankly I hope the initiative fail miserably. I'm old enough to have seen this happen locally and to be honest moral clean ups seldom make for a better city. I think this is the result of the entire population ending up feeling oppressed. If an example is needed here I suggest people look at downtown Rochester NY.
