Home Nudist

I apologize if this has been addressed before, but I am a little new at this. I've had this question for quite some time. Don't mean to split hairs; just curious.
Dictionary.COM says:
- na·tur·ist
1. a person who appreciates the beauty and benefits of nature.
2. a nudist.
- naturist
1. a person who practices nudity for reasons of health or religion
- na·tur·ism
1. Nudism.
------------------
I notice that some people here use the word "naturist," while some use the word "nudist."
I prefer the word "nudist" simply because I think it most clearly defines what I am: a person who is comfortable unencumbered by clothing and prefers to be nude when possible. The word "naturist" sounds like I'm trying to put on airs or put some romantic spin on the fact that I prefer to be nude.
I've always loved nature, but I CAN be "a person who appreciates the beauty and benefits of nature" WITHOUT necessarily wanting to be nude.
According to the dictionary, the words are almost interchangeable. So, can someone explain the difference to me? Is there a difference?
