Perhaps nudism is the new "hippie" movement, the new counter-culture revolution, even though it is not "new" and more "culture complementary" than countering.

Counter-culture means against culture or in opposition to existing social standards, but nudism does not suggest we give up anything in favor of it. We can keep democracy, keep existing laws and keep all the trappings and conveniences of modern life. Nudism simply suggests that all people can show even more support for a "right" to choice by "wearing their heart on their sleeve" or better yet, wearing their heart as their sleeve! Being totally exposed, totally vulnerable and completely open to scrutiny and examination; with all the things we normally hide from others being laid bare before the world.

Does this sound like a tricky or complicated philosophy? Sure it does, but no more so than the hundreds of others existing in practice somewhere in the world.

What philosophy do you live by? What ideals or qualities do you hold above all others? Honesty. Loyalty. Friendship. Justice.

What Ages or Eras came before this one?

The Stone Age.
The Bronze Age.
The Iron Age.

What Revolutions?

The Industrial Revolution.

What if these were all "trial runs" for modern times? What if the next Age is the one where "nothing" means more than something? A time when being unclothed means more than being clothed. A time when uncontrolled consumerism and dependence on something many people consider a necessity of life finally ends. Clothing. What is more important, clothing or medicine? Clothing or housing? Clothing or food?

What if the message is this simple?

When people willing to set aside their costumes and, as some call them, "rags of shame" in favor of openness, individuality and vulnerability, step to the forefront of society and adopt nudity as their banner. A "free" beach established where none existed before, and then a handful of children showing an entire town they could care less about the clothes they once "had to have".

It could start tomorrow or, has it already begun?

It could grow slowly or, has it already spread explosively around the world?

It may be a totally new concept in behavior or, has it been here all along just waiting to be rediscovered?

Honestly I do not know the answers to these questions, but I think the participation of more people of all ages is somewhat undeniable.

A possibly related article I noticed several months ago:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/282641/the_culture_of_nudism_and_its_affect.html

I would like to know if readers view this article as "supportive" or discouraging of nudity.

Hmmm...I don't know. It seems to me that teens today, largely due to the media, have a more sexualized idea of nudity than ever in our culture's history. Nudity seems to be becoming a by-product of sexual experimentation, rather than an experimentation in its own right. The article, to me, seemed to be almost "naively optimistic":

Though many today's times, nudity is even more popular among teens. Although unless you are above a certain age, you cannot get into a private resort for nudism. Teenagers, however have found that they feel more comfortable naked.

If that is in fact true; well, I just don't see it. What I see in my gym locker room are teens showering behind closed curtains and promptly dressing; the only guys walking around nude are all my age or older. Sure, there are teens at the resort; but the turnover seems to be monumental. Not the picture that the author of the article is painting.

But I'm talking about America. This article may very well apply to European countries; at least those that haven't been polluted by our country's media.

But for the good news: I think, as your last proposition suggests, that nudism is waiting to be rediscovered. It is only a matter of time before today's youth becomes alienated with the media's depiction of nudity and seeks a more wholesome and natural approach to nudity. And thanks to the internet, they will be able to find that outlet through nudism.
