Hi guys. My folks are looking for an item that used to be advertised in the Bulletin but we cannot locate the ad in recent issues. It was a portable (sort of) screen that one can put up for privacy. I know they advertised it for a long time and it was a legitimate company. They have done some work on one side of the pool deck and opened it up now so that screen would be ideal. Anyone who can recall the company? Please drop an email and thanks in advance!

Best to all,
-Danee

Thanks for the link FireProf! I was looking for a way to create a little private space in my backyard this summer. The No-Peek Privacy Screen looks like it would fit my requirements perfectly.

The product in the link are economical but probably not very strong.

Another way to have privacy panels is to call a local awning company. They can bring out their fabric books and make something much stronger that will last for years and not have to be put away on a windy day. Of course, that will probably run one to two thousand or so.

Those temporary privacy screens work pretty well as long as you secure them for the occasional wind gusts. Otherwise you may end up getting more “exposure” than you originally planned. Nothing really beats a regular wooden built fence in both durability and looks but you can do some great designs with the fabrics as well. Can even paint on your favorite design or sew on palm trees or such from another layer of fabric for some great results. The economical privacy screen fabrics can be obtained from fence companies, some lumber yards and some big box stores. The fabrics used by awning companies are usually heavier and more costly but very good as well. Main thing is buy fabrics that are rip stop and UV stable for outdoor use. Privacy fencing is really only limited by ones imagination and of course budget.

I am looking for something very similar for my hot tub. One side of my yard has no wood fence, and since that faces an empty lot and its well lit, well could pose a problem. Not that it would bother me, but neighbors are a different story.

But a lot of my friends would prefer to hot tub naturally too, so a screen i can put up and take down would be nice for the parties over here.

I've purchased one of these No Peek screens and used it in my windy backyard for a few years til our block wall was built. Granted...it won't stand up to gusty winds but where we lived, prior to now, it blew often and hard (25-40 mph) and this privacy screen at least bent with the wind and returned to the upright position and gave us ample privacy. Other methods used that were more stiff blew over and had to be uprighted time and time again.

Secured properly in the ground, this product will withstand windy conditions.

I bought one of the No-peek screens from D'Mask with the intention of leaving it up constanty all summer to make my patio private for sunbathing. I found that the vinyl fabric is strong and flexible enough. I choose the green color so that it would blend in with the surrounding vegatation. I pushed the stakes down into the earth, to hold the poles.

You are supposed to secure the vinyl fabric on the poles by clamping it with simple plastic clamps over the poles. I found that with some wind, that the plastic clamps would pop off. I thus would then often have to look for the poped clamps on the patio floor and place the clamps back over the fabric on the poles. Therefore, at one point I supplemented the clamps with duct tape at the top or bottom to keep the fabric on.

Don't let the fabric lay on the ground much, as the ground will stain the fabric badly, and will not wash off properly.

Has anyone here had recent dealings with this outfit?

I ordered a privacy screen about a week ago from them.
So far all i have is a statement that my credit card was charged for $108.00
I don't have any tracking number and when I called their numbers listed on the web site I found that they are both dis-connected.

I just tried emailing and that got bounced as well.

This company is starting to sound fishy.

Eric, I hope that you get your screen and this is just a temporary glitch with the company.

I want to cover my 4 foot high balcony walls that are made of wooden boards with lots of space for possible neighbours' viewing. Any ideas from anyone? I cannot put stakes in the ground as the balcony/verandah is about 25 feet from the ground.

Thanks for any input or suggestions.

I know people who have bought their products, they are genuine and have been in business for quite a while.

I don't know what their current situation is and why phone calls and email don't go through, but 1 week is not too long to wait for a delivery.

USe those plastic ZIP TIES [also called cable ties] they come in many lengths, require no tools and are very strong.

I use them for all kinds of things. They have as many uses as duct tape

I placed an oder a couple of months ago. It never appeared on my bank statement and I haven't been able to contact them. Their phone has been disconnected for a while and emails bounce. Are they still in business?

Well it is a unfortunate if D'Mask is now defunct. They had some good products. The privacy screens they sold could be made by a moderately handy do-it-yerselfer with materials from a home improvement and/or outdoor sports retailer - or if you are willing to pay a bit more a friendly sail shop could probably put together a custom design.

Somewhat similar products that I can personally vouch for are Cabana-to-Go and Privacy-to-Go. They aren't quite what you would want for a spa enclosure or the like, but great for the beach or campsite. Smaller and more portable than D'Mask's product, but well made, and the company is still in business. They also have a number of other products of interest to naturists - particularly an awesome collection of Pareos. http://www.cabanatogo.com/

Journeyman ---- It depends on the look you are after, I’ve had good results for balconies using screening fabric from big box stores or fence companies fastened with decorative screws. You can use just about any type of fabric that is heavy enough to resist winds, preferably one that is made of a “rip stop” fabric and is UV stable or can be coated with a UV sealer, otherwise your work could deteriorate rather quickly in the sun. I’ve done a couple with just plain canvas material which the client then painted a mural onto followed by a clear coat of UV sealer to make it last.
There are other types of screening material too such as bamboo mats which gives a nice tropical theme. Course you can always get boards matching the existing material and do a board on board installation to cover any gaps. Can even use artificial plants and vines to weave thru the boards for a jungle look. Its really only limited by your imagination and the look you are after and of course how much money you want to spend.
