I will soon be retiring. I've been kicking around the idea of getting my real estate license and working for two guys that are currenty on my crew at the fire house. They are both agents and know of our lifestyle.
I posed the idea that I could be the agent in their company to target the "nudist" buyers and listers. They hadn't thought about that market and think it's a great idea. Now all I have to do is take the classes and get started.

I am a loan officer and thinking of posting as looking to help nudist obtain financing.
Great idea to market to people who understand.

Good luck with those plans, FireProf. I used to be an agent in the San Fernando Valley, and the competion was fierce. It was supposedly the largest local board of realtors in the country. Something like one in every four people either had a license, was related to someone who had a license, or knew of someone who had a license. I used to tell the joke about a surgeon, who leaned down to his patient just before he went under anaesthesia, and said "If this doesn't work out, can I sell your house"?

There used to be forum member from the Phoenix area that was a Real Estate agent that catered to nudists. I can't remember his name, but he did quite well as I recall. Also, I wish you good luck on your second profession FireProf, when you retire. You should do good in that part of the country.:smoking:

I think there might be more real estate agents in CA than lawyers. :D

We knew someone that went to the classes, studied, read all the materials, passed the classes, took the state licensing test and then... Found out about all the costs associated with being a Real Estate Agent.
They (some company) wanted her to buy business cards, buy "the" blazer (outfit), pay for advertising, pay fees to access the (only) multi-listing service, buy stationery, and (I think) pay an "office support" fee for getting phone messages taken and whatever miscellaneous typing/copying/filing that needed to be done! Seems to me like HUGE hidden costs; not that all professional endeavors do not have these, but what a "bubble buster!".
(Plus I think she was going to be limited to showing properties in a certain value range as the senior agents get the most desirable and lucrative properties)
She decided NOT to go through with being a Realtor.
Personally I think the whole entire real estate and mortgage banking system is a self-sustaining scam and should be ripped down and rebuilt by a completely different model; but that's just me. I am not against people being Realtors, I am against paying more for a home than OPEN HEART SURGERY!!

All businesses have costs associated with them, and I feel they will be apparent if one looks into the particular field before getting in too deep. I think the real estate sales has a big turnover for the reasons above, plus the cost of vehicle use. There are good and bad things for most vocations and an individual needs to investigate carefully before entering your field of choice.
As far as home prices go, as long as people keep buying and paying the price, they will keep selling.

Being a RE agent sounds like a good idea. Realize that getting the license (classes, tests and fees) are just part of the expense. In Texas joining the local Realtor board will be about a thousand dollars a year. Second year? More renewals, fees etc.
Don't depend on your broker (who holds your license) for anything other than getting a good sized piece of your commissions. Unless you get a "walk in" customer, it is up to you to get your own buyers and sellers. Brokers will lie to you. Potential customers lie constantly. Most other agents would sell their mothers for a nickel. You will be used.
Marketing to a niche market sounds good.
Ask yourself this before you go through the trouble and expense of getting a RE license. How many people do I know who now are actually ready, willing and able to buy or sell property NOW?
There is high turnover among RE agents for a reason.

The only difference would be that I already have a day job and my only source of income will not be from the real estate market. I have a very good retirement plan and so does my wife.
It really wouldn't matter if I sold a house or not...or listed a house or not. I'm looking for something to do with my retirement time and be available to our kids in that market. This a market group that my friends have not even looked into and with a person/partner at their disposal that is also a nudist and is privy to the needs of those types, I can offer an added dimension to their business. If a listing sold or I sold a listing once a year.............it would pay for our annual trip to Club Orient and that would be a plus!! :D
but...if it didn't happen..........we'd still be able to afford it without any problem! ;)
At any rate...I'm gonna give a go and see what happens. It'll be worth the $$ getting the license so I didn't or our kids didn't have to give real estate agents a huge chunk of the equity.

I wonder how the realtor knows which neighborhoods are naturist-friendly?

Ask??
If you think it is tough to become an RE, try becoming a P.E.!! You wouldn't imagine what I had to go through to be able to put PE after my name.

Well, as a realtor, I am sensitive to the needs of a nudists, giving equity to us is how we get paid. Try it sometime run people around using gas at 3 bucks a gallon ,pay for advertising and navigate the all the legal paperwork and make the deals happen. See how many folks who did thems selves say, what a pain in the a**.
Many think we do not earn our money.Fine but just do one deal for someone and not take any money .then see if we do not earn our keep.

Many people don't appreciate the value of a good realtor. We have bought and sold several houses and know from experience how helpful one who is knowledgeable in the business can be.

For everyone interested in embarking in a second career in nudist real estate please be aware that the woman in the WSJ article (Jackie Youngblood) is at ground zero for nudist real estate, Pasco County, Florida. As one who has purchased properties over the years at two different nudist resorts it's been my experience that agents are few and very well connected to the nudist community.
A great story involves a former Paradise Lakes server named April Genter. if you've been to the Paradise Lakes resort over the past decade-and-a-half you have probably seen April, her cheery infectious personality and memory for people's faces is truly remarkable. Not all that along ago she took that glossary of mental contacts and embarked upon a real estate career. Not surprisingly she is also a motivational speaker around the Tampa Bay area.
Note: This is not an advertisement or an endorsement of this nudist real estate company but rather a sample of the topic thread. http://www.sunbathersclubs.com
