The local school board just passed a new set of regulations banning Bullying and mandating training into what is and isn't Bullying for teachers and students.
The training is really only new part. Bullying has always been a non-tolerated thing.
But the thing that made this such a hot potato was the inclusion of a list of types of bullying that included all the standards and "Sexual Orientation" and "Gender Identification" as types of Bullying not to be tolerated.
Of course, the usual suspects raised the hew and cry of "promoting the homosexual agenda" and worked to stop the board from enacting the new policy ... nothing surprising there. The surprise came in the form of a local minister - one from one of the biggest Southern Baptist churches - when he shocked shocked the usual suspects and pleaded with the board to enact the policy. Stunned the proponents as well - he is known for being to the far right of Attila the Hun - when he stood up to be counted as in favor of the policy banning Bullying.
I remember the days in school well, when I stood up for those being bullied ... pounded more than a few bullies into new and improved attitudes. Still do so today. I guess that makes me a bully to the bullies ... ME! Go figure?!
All I can say is those so narrow minded that they are afraid of differences and are willing to allow Bullying to take place so they can continue to be selfish, self centered horses hind ends please form a line and enter the Alleyway ... you will have a new attitude when you emerge.
The question is ... Why do we tolerate such intolerance?
