Does any one know any thing about them?
I live out of the city, so I want to get faster speed than dialup.
I picked up the one put out by Sprint.
When it is in the roaming mode It is really fast!
But if it is in the normal mode it is slower than my dialup, I only use this at home. Is there a way to lock it in to roaming?
And does any one know if I can use a router with the Aircard?
Need HELP !!!!
Thanks dan t

dan t:
I have VerizonWireless aircard. It is faster than dial up, bit not as fast as cable. I have found no difference in speed between local and roaming networks; however, nearly everywhere I have been (Hawaii, Ohio, Florida, New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, Utah, Colorado, Iowa) I have had no problems with getting a VerizonWireless connection.
I used to have a Cingular aircard. Cigular turned into AT&T - under either name, it was junk. While very slightly faster I found very limited coverage compared to VerizonWireless.
The advantage for me in the aircard is being able to use it everywhere in the U.S.

I was going to go with Verizon but they have a cap that if you go over it cost extra per month.
And we went with the sprint because we have nextel cell service with the sprint aircard there is no cap on how much you use it.
My son is a big time gamer so he will be on it more than I am.
We have solved the roaming problem, where we live it gets a stronger signal when in that mode and works well.
Now all we need to find out is if we can get a router so we both can use it at the same time.
Thanks.

I'll give them a call and see if they carry the Router for the air card.

Less than 2 weeks ago, we went with Embarq for DSL. Selected their slowest 764 kB service at $19.95/mo. It's fantastic! I can view movies; my sound has come back; everything is faster on my computer.
I installed a wireless router on my computer, Netgear. On my wife's computer, I installed a Belkin receiver. She can access the DSL on my machine. I switched her e-mail to Outlook Express and took out an Embarqmail account for her. She now has instant e-mail same as I have. Can still get our old Juno e-mail via Outlook Express.
Life is great!

Most routers either wireless or hardwired or both use RJ45 NIC and a CAT5 cable as an input from your cable or dsl modem.
I don't believe the air cards have any outputs to other than the system buss.
Here is what you need and was just released to solve just what your talking about if your laptop and or desk top has wireless WiFi.

unitednudist,
"dan t" has already selected the Sprint air card and is concerned with a router or sharing this air card with his son.
The just released "Cradlepoint PHS300 Battery-Powered EVDO / HSDPA Router seems to be a way to share this cell EVDO connection wireless via a WiFi connection if using one of the new USB AIR CARDS.
Being battery powered, one could use this device while traveling and share the cell connection while on location for such uses as CFI Staff and Cam crews on location. [Corky, check out this unit out, and USB air cards.]

Verizon Wireless USB727 Modem can link multiple computers regardless of the carrier. I have one at my beach house.

unitednudist,
As I said in the previous post "dan t" has already selected "Sprint" as his cell/data carrier and has their air card.
Verizon Wireless USB727 Modem can link multiple computers regardless of the carrier.
Not all cell carriers are EDVO so unless the Verizon has multiple carrier formats it will not work on all other carriers.
Tell me how the Verizon USB modem links to multiple computers without additional hardware?

I'm going to check in to that router you showed me.
Looks like it would work fine for us.
Thanks dan t

Blutooth, Infared port, wi-fi router, Assuming the laptop has wireless built into it. If not two of them will be needed. On the Verizon Wireless Website is states "Verizon Services NOT needed."

I have a card from Blue Mountain Internet, out of Washington State...
They use the Verizon Network, and you get the same equipment as with Verizon...
But they charge one flat rate (around $60 a month)...
The only thing that happens if you go over the data limit is that it slows your speed a bit (so they tell me)...
Although i haven't noticed...
Also haven't gone over the 5GB limit...
Apparently it's a lot more surfing than it sounds like...
I recently used it on two trips cross country...
anywhere where you can get a cell signal...
i used it in a few pretty remote places...
so i'm happy...
they are at www.bmi.net (http://www.clothesfreeforum.com/www.bmi.net)
or info@bmi.net (http://www.clothesfreeforum.com/info@bmi.net)
Tel: (509) 522-5006
(and they do operate nationwide)
Hope the info is helpful to you or anyone interested...
Take Care,

unitednudist,
My question to you:
Quote:Tell me how the Verizon USB modem links to multiple computers without additional hardware?
Unitednudist, I doubt very much the Verizon Wireless USB727 Modem has Infrared. bluetooth, and WiFi interface internally, or has any way to interface with a standard hardwired/wireless access point wireless WiFi router.
your answer is wrong as far as the specifications listed from Verizon.
quote:Blutooth, In fared port, wi-WiFi router, Assuming the laptop has wireless built into it. If not two of them will be needed. On the Verizon Wireless Website is states "Verizon Services NOT needed."<!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->
Yes most laptops and desktop if equipped have Infrared 3-6' direct line of sight, Bluetooth 30' max, and WiFi up to 1500' transceivers, but that is not the question I posed to you, and thats not sharing a USB cell modem plugged into a lap top or desktop's USB port sharing a WiFi access point or broadband connection.
[Their must be a way to interface this Verizon USB modem to a hardwired and/or Wireless router, and it doesn't have this output or interface.
The Verizon USB modem plugged into a desktop or laptop USB port cannot share a EDVO cell data connection in its self without additional hardware as I mentioned to "dan t" called a: The just released "Cradlepoint PHS300 Battery-Powered EVDO / HSDPA Router seems to be a way to share this cell EVDO connection wireless via a WiFi connection if using one of the new USB AIR CARDS.
Yes you can probably buy a USB EDVO cell modem without service or a plan for several hundred dollars, but you will need a account and plan and activation with some carrier in order to have a working data link on a EDVO carrier or network using this USB Modem.
So your confusing the issue here by stating the Verizon USB modem has all these features and sharing capabilities with multiple computers on its own. It does not, and requires additional hardware as i mentioned to "dan t" to work like he wants it to, and share the connection with his son.
