SC HB 3679 is something we thought was dead since the subcommittee did not bring it into the full committee last year. It's not the bill itself that is troublesome; it's the definitions that should be an issue to every nudist. Bills like this one that confuse sexual oriented businesses with simple nudity could impact nude recreation as we enjoy it today. Last year, Representative Talley said we should offer an amendment. I emailed that out to each of the subcommittee members, but nothing was done, and the session was over.

It was re-introduced this year, and it was heard on Thursday morning, March 27th at 9AM in the General Laws subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee. The hearing went poorly. Only one non-affiliated nudist showed up to accompany me. This bill will be heard again by the full Judiciary Committee on April 1st at 2:30PM. This bill can affect landed clubs/parks if the definitions are not amended and subsequently, could affect non-landed clubs too. Please email me at cheridonna@prodigy.net with your intentions.

I have "I'm a nudist and I vote" button. Your presence will make a difference.

PLEASE,ONLY SC RESIDENTS!

We need a sea of buttons in the room. No one needs to speak besides me unless you really want to.

Cheri, Thanks for your ongoing efforts to keep a sane prospective on the nude culture. I hope all goes well for you in the Judiciary Committee on April 1st.

It would be great to have a sea of those buttons in the room. This past Thursday, there were only 2 of us. Considering that AANR sent out an alert to 250, that's a very poor showing. I can't be the only one who has enough leave time to take a half day off.

NAC was alerted to this, and they've not as yet sent out any alert at all.

Today's Judiciary committee meeting was interesting. The H.3679 was
the last bill on the agenda to be heard. The chairman of that committee
knows who I am and nodded hello before the proceedings started. There
was some banter among the committee members about an ammendment other
than what I proposed to this bill. Some wanted to send that ammendment along w/the bill
to the Criminal Laws subcommittee. There was a voice vote yea/nay, and
I had difficulty hearing the difference and would have probably called
for a role call vote. However Rep. Harrison say the yeas have it, and
the bill was sent to the Criminal Laws subcommittee where we can once
again speak up and show our concerns. Let's hope we have ample notice
to be heard. Representative Weeks (with whom I have a good
relationship) said it may just die.
When the entire committee meets, it is not a hearing, you cannot
speak. So, this is good for us. After the meeting broke up, I spoke with
three of the legislators with whom I had not previously spoken
personally, just emailed. One of them acknowledged the ammendment I presented
and said it made sense, but the bill was sent to the full committee so
quickly nothing was done with it. Now we have a chance. Another
legislator mentioned that he didn't know we had nudist clubs in SC.
Needless to say, I handed him a business card. :) One of the State
newspaper reporters also was handed a card as was an AP reporter who
interviewed me. We'll see what becomes and how acurately it's handled.

I do hope at that time we have more nudists in attendance especially
those with affiliations and ownership in the landed clubs.

So much for the freedom of speech (Protects our ways of expression) and the freedom of religion

I handed several people and reporters my AANR-Eastern Region Government Affairs business card. We got a mention at least.

SC bill banning stripper lap dances hits a snag

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - A bill requiring exotic dancers to stay six feet from their customers in South Carolina has stalled.

The measure would effectively ban lap dances and require strip clubs to close at midnight.

A subcommittee approved the idea last week. But House Judiciary Committee members on Tuesday eagerly sent the bill to a different subcommittee for further review.

Representative Garry Smith suggested making each time strippers and customers come within six feet of each other a separate offense. The Simpsonville Republican says he hopes the proposal will reduce crime around strip clubs.

An official with the American Association for Nude Recreation called the proposal a sad bill that tries to legislate morality.

How will banning lap dances reduce crime around strip clubs?

It also looks like the AANR reps need to get into contact with the authro of the article. The AANR was opposed to this bill for much different reasons such as that of being overly broad, not because they thought that lap dances are moral.

Bob, I am representing AANR for this bill. Each committee member has been given a packet. I have emailed each Judiciary Committee member with the proposed amendment excluding nudists/naturists from the definitions.

There are many fewer secondary effects from strip clubs than your average neighborhood bar.

This bill will continue in debate again on May 1st. I do not have a time as yet. I am taking the day off as a vacation day.

I wish more people would be able to attend.

Cheri,

Some people are part of the problem, some part of the solution. You, I might add, are doing more for us that 99.9% of the people out there, and I want to personally say THANK YOU.
