This Refers to an article found in the NY Times.

I have just read this article that multiple MRI's can lead to a perminant loss of taste. I know when I just come out of one my taste is a bit off. I was wondering if anyone has heard this before?

Had two MRIs and according to my waistline I have not lost the sense of taste. If anything one could say it has been enhanced.

I have had multiple MRI's and have never had any problems after the tests. I have had the tests with dye's and without.

Had MRI when researching a sudden hearing loss I suffered last year. Being an amateur chef, my sense of taste is very important to me. I have not noticed any difference at all.

BTW, The good news is, the MRI found the cause of the hearing trouble and I was able to take steps to correct. My sensitive 'dog hearing' has been restored now.

Had an MRI in the early 90's of my head - no side effects at all.

Had a "Cat Scan" (where they gave you that awful dye crap in an I.V.) and sure, it' screwed up my taste, etc. until it wore off - about 4 hours if I remember right.

The MRI is simply waves of magnetic energy passing thru your body, I do not see any way that it can cause harm or side effects.

The crud you take for a CT scan MOST CERTAINLY has effects, but AFAIK, they are only temporary effects.

I have not had an MRI, I came close, but the CT came out normal! Phew.

The powers that be have to report all side effects of medical treatments and medications. That is why you will see a horrifying list of side effects on some meds. I suspect the same is true for the MRI. Likely, some folks have experienced the loss of taste, and that this is a minority.

It is always good to do some homework before embarking on some medical procedures. I hope it goes well for you.

I've had a couple of MRIs, one of my left arm and one of my full back. Trust me, I've not ever lost taste.
