View Full Version : From Vancouver, BC, Canada ~ an introduction

Hi there! I couldn't find a place for introductions, so i'm guessing that this is the place! I've filled a bit about myself in my profile, so i won't repeat it here... I've also replied to a few posts, so they give even more info...

I'm from the Vancouver area, and although not new to naturism, i am new to the possibility of going to a resort/club. I plan on going to the Van Tan Nudist Club's Open House this June 8th. I'm not quite sure what there is around here other than that!

I"m sure Google will help me out, but it's nice to hear from people who've actually been a part of the naturist community here in BC. Anybody from BC around here?

So anyway . . . a BIG HI to EVERYONE in the forum! :-) *waves*

Hi Joontiki, welcome aboard. I was just in your fair city last weekend and had a great, albeit clothed, visit. I could really like Vancouver if it didn't rain so much! ;) I live in northern BC, where we get very cold winters, and bright sunny days.

You might want to get approved to join the Girl Talk area in this board. It is a female only area.

Jump into whatever conversation interests you. I Guarantee you'll find something interesting! :D

Thank you for the welcome Boreas! :-)

Ah yes, cold winters. I grew up in the Hamilton, Ontario area, so i do know a bit about cold winters. And i also know that i could never go back to them! (at least not full time) I'll take rainy & mild over sunny & cold any day! Hehe. Although i should say, we have an extraordinary amount of sun this winter!

I would love to visit more of northern BC some day though! I love discovering new places! I'm sure it must be beautiful! We live in a fabulous province, don't you think? :-)

I was wondering about the Women-Only area. When i tried to join though, it said i had to deactivate my CFF account first! I don't want to do that! Can't i be a member of CFF as well?

And actually, i have already joined in on a few topics. There are lots of interesting conversations going on here!

Again, thank you so much for the welcome! It makes me feel more at home! :-)

That is wierd! Perhaps ercNY might know, or krcNY. I don't remember having that issue when I joined.

I am from London, Ontario originally. I moved here from Toronto in 1999 and have not looked back. I really like this area. I work at one of the reserves two days per week, and went to a town an hour away today. It is such a ncie area up here. We are on the Alaska highway, which is fabulous. There is a really awesome hotspring north of here called Liard Hotsprings. It is best enjoyed at -30C......seriously. People have also been known to skinny dip there too!

Well i'll have to look into it then. Maybe i'll ask... somewhere. Hehe. Not sure where though. Thank you for the suggestion though.

The furthest north i've been is Bella Coola. And you live on the Alaska Highway? That's very cool. I'd love to go to Alaska/Yukon/NWT. And working at a local reserve is also very cool. I have some wonderful memories of the reserve in Bella Coola - smoking salmon that were massive!

Anyway, thanks again and nice to 'meet' you! :-)

Wow, 68 views and only one person has said hi back?

Maybe my intro is in the wrong place. Is there actually a proper place to say hi and introduce yourself?

. . . Just a newbie wondering if i'm doing things right! :-)

I am also from Vancouver, and am wondering what we have for options around here.

Haven't yet ventured up to the Van Tan club, although I will probably also come up for the open house this year to check it out. Wreck Beach is my favorite place to be in the summer. But for clubs and resorts, I have yet to find anything. Anyone know of anything?

Hey enertronik! Nice to see another Vancouverite!

I'm not sure about the options other than 'Van Tan', as of yet. The Plan-of-the-Hour is to go to the June 8th Open House & then again, hopefully, to their Solstice Weekend Camp-out (June 21-22). I'm sure i'll find out from the members what else is available in the area at that time! If you don't make it, then i'll report back! :-)

I went to the 'Sol Sante Resort' a couple of weeks ago, just north of Victoria. But that was just overnight at a friend's cabin, so i didn't really get to see or experience it.

Have you seen the pictures of Van Tan on the website? The view is gorgeous, way up high on the side of a mountain. It's a pretty rustic club though. They don't even have electricity, although they do have a pool. I'm not sure what one does at a place like that, but i guess i'll find out!

I haven't been to Wreck Beach in years! How is it these days? I know there are lots of Hot Springs all over the Province where one can go nude. My partner would know about them and he's taken me to a few of them. Some, great for camping, although for others you need to backpack (those are remote, and the best). I know there was a post just today that listed the hot springs in BC...

I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier, I don't make a lot of post on here, and I had company all day. But I would like to welcome you to the forum. I live in Pensacola Florida so it is usually pretty warm here, and I do spend a lot of time nude here.

Thanks for the welcome krcNY & Randy! I'm feeling more at home already! :-)

And lucky you, Randy! You have so many options when it comes to being nude, down in Florida. You even have resorts that you can live in full-time! That is the one thing that sucks about being Canadian. Even here in Vancouver where the weather is mild-ish (like Seattle - we do have snow, but not lots), we can't go nude year round. And being Canadian, i can't just "move south" to a warmer State. *sigh*

I've often wondered how "Snow Birds" do it. How can Canadians own houses down south & live there 1/2 the year? Snow Birds abound, so it must be ok/legal. I wish i had the money to do that, but i don't. Darn-it-all.

Again, thanks for the welcome! :-)

New York is a nice State, although i haven't really explored it. I've always wanted to check out NYC! I'm particularly fond of New England though, but have not been there for years, since moving to the west coast.

I guess we're just about as far away from each other as one can get in this country! Oh, maybe not. I guess Newfoundland would be a bit further. But still, pretty far! :-)

Thank you for welcoming me rinnies! Well, you should have a great vacation then. Vancouver sure it different than New Jersey! :-)

Vancouver is a very liberal city. We even have 'pot' bars, where you can smoke pot and the police don't bother you. Not that i (nor you for that matter) partake, but i just used it as an example to show what it's like here! :-) Women are allowed to go topless in public as well, but that's pretty rare, other than occasionally on public beaches.

You should love Wreck Beach though! I hope you have a great trip & the weather co-operates! We are in a temperate rain forest, after all! :-)

I will definitely try and make that open house at Van Tan. The view is awesome, I mountain bike up there all the time, and have always passed the gate and thought, 'i've gotta go in there soon'.

Wreck is great, as always. Can't wait to get back this year. You should post any info you know about these hot springs you're talking about. I'd love to know more!

I just checked out Sol Sante on their website, looks like they have very nice facilities. I didn't even know they existed. I'll definitely be making a trip there this year. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Joontiki, I am also from Vancouver. Sol Sante must have been pretty cold. I used to live in Victoria and went there lots of times. Who did you stay with? You can private message me if you don't want to post the names on here. You should definitely try and get back there during the summer, it's a wonderful place to relax. Wreck beach is always great during the summer too, and I'm also planning on going to one of the open houses at Van Tan this summer. Tried to last summer, but just couldn't make it work.

Do you go to any of the nude swims around town? I'm going with a friend to the one in Surrey on the 26th of this month.

Hi nnguy! Another Vancouverite. Cool. :-)

As for Sol Sante, we arrived late at night, just in time for sleeping & left first thing in the morning. I just got to drive through on the way out to see the place, that's all. So cold wasn't an issue. It would be nice to go there some time and actually experience it though.

Heh. As for Van Tan, we've had it in mind to go to an open house for years, but just never do. This year though, it's on my calendar in INK. :-P I"m hoping they'll let us go to the Solstice camp-out as well.

No, i've never been to a nude swim before. But yeah, a nude swim will probably be on my agenda at some point in time. I'm just going to get Van Tan under my belt first.

I hope you guys have fun in Surrey! Would you mind reporting back? I'd love to hear about it! :-)

Welcome welcome welcome!

Its nice to see another Canadian join us here! Maybe one day we'll outnumber the Americans! Then everybody will have to say 'aboot' and 'eh!'. lol

Of course I am in California now...

I grew up in Wpg though. Talk about cold. lol I lived in Vancouver for 6 years and I have to say I hated pretty much every day of 'winter' there. (too rainy and cloudy) Summer was nice though. Sadly I never did head to Wreck Beach, it was always somethng I wanted to do though.

My father is a snowbird. He lives in his 33' RV around Wpg or Dauphin in the summer, then heads south to Florida and hops on his 36' sailboat and sails around the caribbean. I donno how he does it in such small places, my books would take up all the room. :D

Again welcome to the boards!

Thanks for the welcome, DenitaLC, nekkidskier & Qikdraw! :-D

Nekkidskier ~ You have lots of great places down in Washington though, right? Hot Springs, like we do? Do you not have a good nude beach down there as well?

I really MUST get my act in gear and get my passport. It's been a while since i've been down to Washington. But the thought of having to get into line @ 5 am & stand in line until closing & possibly not even be able to get into the passport office... really doesn't appeal. *sigh* Hehe. That's what i get for waiting so long.

Qikdraw ~ Yes, if you don't like rain, Vancouver is not a good place to live. Personally, i'd rather rain than snow. And if i want the snow, i can always go up into the mountains! :-) Too bad you never made it to Wreck Beach! But then again, i've been in Vancouver for over 20 years, and i've only been there twice!

And Snowbirds! I can't remember if i asked about them in this thread or not. I can see how your dad does it, but i wonder how it's possible to OWN a house/condo down south and live there 1/2 the year... legally! *shrug*

About the books? Yeah. I had to build an actual library to hold all my books. And there still wasn't enough room for the novels! I still have to figure out where to put them! It would be pretty hard leaving them behind (giving them away) if i downsized to an RV!

Again, thanks to EVERYONE for making me feel so welcome! :-D Oh, and Qikdraw... you were away for awhile? If so then welcome back as well! :-)

Thank you thank you. :D There are times I'd rather be back in Canada, but overall I am happy here. Good neighbours, nice weather (if you can stand 110+ degrees in the summer) and generally all around a nice place to live. (even if I do have to put up with Americans surrounding me. :D)

Growing up in WPg it may get down to -40, but at least the sun is out. It really does make a difference.

Too bad you never made it to Wreck Beach! But then again, i've been in Vancouver for over 20 years, and i've only been there twice!

I had made plans once to go, but it fell through. A few girls from the restaraunt I worked in went a few times and we had planned on me tagging along with them one time, but it just never happened. :(

I'm pretty sure you can, although I am not positive on how that works.

I need a library. Both my wife & I look at new houses and figure out which room would be our library. :D

Hehe. Now that you ask... i have no idea what i'd like to know! :-P :-) I guess, never being to one before... what's a nude swim like? Just like a public swim (that happens to be nude) where everybody keeps to themselves & the friends they came with, or do people socialize with everybody & make new friends, sort of like one big party?

And i wonder if different nude swims have different dynamics (some like a normal public swim, some like a big party) or are they basically all the same?

Wow, such newbie questions! *blush* :-)

Not newbie at all. It definitely has more of a "party" atmosphere than just a regular clothed swim. People do socialize more, but it is also as social as you make it. If you want to be friendly and chat with a bunch of people, I'm sure you'll find plenty of people wanting to chat and get to know you. If not, that's fine too, and you can try and keep to yourself. I say try because usually there will be people trying to chat with you :). Feel free to ask anything else, don't be shy ;).

Welcome from Winnipeg,
I was at Wreck Beach last June and found it too be a great place, although the climb out had my legs sore for a couple of days. If you check out the VanTans website and follow the links I believe you will find that (greater) Vancouver has a nude swim every Saturday. I wish we had one here. It is just too long a winter.

Ah yes. I had forgotten that big climb. You get great exercise going there! :-) As for the nude swims, the Greater Vancouver area actually has at least a couple of them. North Van & Surrey come to mind, but i wouldn't be surprised if there were more. The swims are at public pools, so i don't see why someone couldn't arrange with a pool in Winnipeg & do the same thing, all winter long as well as summer! :-)

Well, i guess wilderness goes a long way. You're more likely to be able to do some nude hiking for instance, if you can get into a more wilderness area. Now that's fun. I've done at least topless backpacking and only come across a couple of people who didn't care...

Anyway, nice to meet you and i hope you're enjoying Jersey country! :-)

Hi Joontiki from yet another Vancouverite...

I'm new here myself, and don't belong to any resort. But I do go naked at home, sunbathe nude in the back yard when the weather's nice, and visit Wreck Beach a couple of times a week in the summer months. Probably my favourite place.

Boreas asked me where i got my Canadian flag gif in my signature, so i said i'd post a few that i have collected here (i have more). I'll keep to smaller ones (except for the "Hello from Canada" one). I'm sorry i don't know where i got them from, so i can't give credit to anyone. If someone does know, please tell me so i can give credit.

Thanks Joon. I found mine by looking for "Canadian Flag" in Google. I had tried "animated" and "gif" with no success. Of course, when I realized I was complicating things and all I needed to do was copy and paste, it worked. :)

Sadly, his influence is here though. :(

Have your wounds healed and your bleeding stopped? ;)

(As you can see, I borrowed one of your gifs.... I am in a play with my signature block mode)

Great pics, Qikdraw, thanks! Now i can add to my collection! :-)

And i agree with Boreas. Although George doesn't work here, he's forced us backwards on more than one occasion! Cute banner though!

Yeah, i think it's good to have a Canadian Flag in our signatures on a very American-oriented Forum. We stand out more then! :-)

Frankly, all this Canadian flag-waving BS is making me just a trifle uncomfortable. Don't you Canucks know that you're supposed to be unassuming, quiet, polite, respectful and lord knows, UN-patriotic?

I saw that commercial on TV recently. I love it too.

I recently heard a very funny American comedian. He said that Canadians were like the neighbours who live above the partiers. They were polite and quiet while the party went on. They would call down and say "Hey, could you please keep it down down there". Sometimes we are the upstairs neighbours, but we also do know how to party! :D

Yup! There are a few of us! :-)

Are you still planning on going to the open house even with this crappy weather?
*big sigh* Yes, i am. Stooopid weather! I'm chilled to the bone in the house, let alone outside! But it is the only Open House that i can go to, so i have no choice. At least we'll be able to see the facilities, if nothing else! And meet some people! I'm sure the main regulars will be there to welcome people! I mean, we are in Vancouver! If you don't go out in the rain in Vancouver, then your social life would be awfully quiet! :-P Hehe

We won't be going until about 2 pm or so (after my partner finishes work) - almost the end of the day (the Open House ends at 4). But i'm determined to go! And i can always put my towel around my shoulders! Brrrr.

We went to the Van Tan Open House (here in Vancouver, BC. Canada). It was really cold, but after some time spent in the wood-fired sauna, i was out and about talking to the 1/2 dozen people that actually made it.

It's in a beautiful location, with a wonderful view, that was partially obscured by the rain clouds. The pool is now a "water storage facility", meaning "no swimming allowed", partially because of some stupid road allowance thing (ie: the pool was built right in the middle of it decades ago). It's a shame. And ridiculous.

It's very primitive, in that there is no water or power, except for a generator that's on for a few hours a day. It's a nice place, and i plan to go back to a real event some time this summer and camp overnight to give it a real try with more people! :-)

How was the open house? Did you get a chance to go to it?
Oh yes, i'm sorry wheelchairguy. I did say that i'd post about that, didn't i? :-)

Well, it was a frigid cloudy day, but apparently they had their best Open House ever! Ten new people showed up to check out the place (usually they get 2 or 3)! I thought that it would be worse, considering it was so cold, but i guess since they changed from a few Open Houses a year to only one, people figured they'd better get out to this one! Not that it really matters though, because you can arrange to check the place out any time you want!

Even with the cloudy day, it was a fabulous view! I can only imagine how wonderful it would be on a clear day! The drive up the mountain, you don't need a 4-wheel drive, but the road is very pot-holey. It can be a bit awkward to arrange to visit though, if you're not a member. Someone has to meet you at the gate with the key. Members have their own keys though, obviously. Non-members are allowed to visit 3 times a year.

They are a small, primitive club. No power or water. They have a generator that they run for a few hours a day for string lights, the pool pump & to power a heater in the little plastic-wrapped shelter for cold weather get-togethers. But unfortunately, the pool is officially closed down due to bureaucracy. It is now just a "water storage facility". Hehe.

They do have a wonderful wood-fired sauna though. They had that blasting, and a splash of Eucalyptus laced water on the hot coals made the searing heat in the hut smell heavenly. It chased the chills away that so we could actually walk around naked for a while. The few regulars that were there to greet people were very personable & friendly. That's a good sign. :-)

Van Tan is the oldest Nudist Club in Canada. It started in the late 1930's. I sure do hope that the bureaucracy doesn't end up being the death of them. It would be a shame. It's a lovely, very primitive little site with a breathtaking view! And we're hoping to be able to go check out one of their events this year. Maybe their Golden Days camping weekend in August.

Hi all:

I guess that I should have said hello sooner, so hello now.
We live in the Stave Falls area of Mission, about 40 miles east of Vancouver.
I started going to Wreck beach in the sixties, but haven't been there for about 25 years. And thanks, Joontiki, for telling me about this forum.

Hi Walt! I welcomed you in another post, but i might as well do it here too! :-) Welcome!

I'm glad you posted your website, because the one you gave me just kept sending me to a Telus sales page. But now, unfortunately, even though i do have IE7... this link sends me to an error page that says you need IE5.5 or later. Hehe. It seems i'm never going to get to take a closer look at those cool pics you've got there!
