Bare-bottomed prom invite nets suspensions

Story Highlights
Members of lacrosse squad suspended for mooning prom proposal for teammate
Players displayed message during junior varsity game
Girl accepted player's invitation to promANN ARBOR, Michigan (AP) -- Thirteen members of a high school lacrosse team have been disciplined for dropping their pants to send a prom invitation from one player to a girl.

The lacrosse players at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan displayed the question, "Will You Go To The Prom With Me? Yes or No?" on their bottoms, which they bared during a junior varsity game last Thursday.

Officials suspended 13 players for an undetermined number of games and ordered them to perform 20 hours of community service. They also were suspended from school for one day.

The girl accepted the prom invitation.

Love her, hate what happened to the players.

I too think it was great, and grand of the girl to accept. However, the players really didn't leave the school administration much choice. If they looked the other way on this (hard to do since it happened at a school game), we can't even imagine what kids would think up next.

But it's fun, and I'll bet there was laughter and cheers at the game.

They could have accepted it in the sense of humor it was intended.

As a retired school principal I can say that the administration had NO CHOICE but to act in this situation. They did, however, most likely,, have a choice in exactly what punishment to meet out to the players. If they had simply looked the other way, the central administration of the district would have been swamped with irate parent calls demanding action not only against the players but the local school administrators as well.

These boys should have know that there would be consequences for their action. It truly shows team spirit that they would still do this for their teammate even though the punishment could have been much harsher. I am happy so see that the prom is still an event they are allowed to attend.

I sure hope this date was worth it :)

I heard about this and found it to be quite amusing! Its just sad about what happened to the boys. But I am happy that the girl accepted the offer. That in itself is surprising because most girls would have called or regarded them as perverts for such a feat. She must have had a good sense of humor and wasn't offended obviously. Here is looking at it from a funny angle though. Out of all those guys, which one would she have actually dated? Just a thought!

Sure the boys should have known they would be subject to oppressive over reaction. Such is the society we live in. You should predicate every decision based on the misinformed prejudices of others and Joie de vivre should be left to the dirty French who are all bound for hell anyway.

Any person in authority who dealt with such a situation based on its clear humorous appeal, lack of ill intent, and all around harmlessness is an obvious Trotskyite!

Well Mark, normally I'd agree on something like this, but I've just put two daughters through high school and have to say the administration had no choice but to take action.

The highschoolers are an almost-closed society unto themselves and they will seek the outrageous just because...

The morality, intent, meaning, social impact and whatever are largely lost on them. The whole point is, "what can we get away with." Or if on the sidelines, "Look at that."

Just look at the meaningless, vapid, vast nothing that we call YouTube. Or read a transcript of a text message session. Nothing there either.

If nothing is done at the high school to reign it in, behavior will quickly spiral out of control. I wouldn't want to administer a high school.

There are teacher and then there are educators, this example of how a principle dealt with a situation is the right way to do it, we all know that teenagers like to rebel, but the use of reverse phsycology had these girls toeing the line pretty damned quick, and of their own volition to boot.

lipstick

According to a news report, a certain private school in Sydney was recently faced with a unique problem.

A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom.

After they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back.

Finally the principal decided that something had to be done.

She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man.

She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night –

(you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses).

To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required.

He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it.

Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror..

Moral to this story:-

There are teachers.... and then there are educators.
