Some object to nude festival in Italy (http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Quirks/2008/05/07/some_object_to_nude_festival_in_italy/5646/)
People need to learn to cool out. There are more important things going on in the world right now.
Of course the real issue is that there is a huge pent up interest in naturism in Italy, and there aren't any clear guidelines from the Catholic hierarchy.
Ultimately what is needed is for an event like this to concretize an agreement between naturist organizations and the Catholic church on core principles. For instance, following the catechism, that the human body is God's creation and hence not in itself the issue, that each other's person must be at all times impeccably respected according to naturist and Catholic principles, that sexuality remains separate and sacred without the slightest exception, that marital and family values are rigorously protected, and that there is an agreed procedure for dealing immediately with any concerns or problems.
It may not be so much a matter of "cool out" as of "get act together." Both the previous and current Pope come from social backgrounds where naturism is not considered sin so there is a great opportunity to take two-seconds of thought to produce a paragraph, clarify the matter and move on to more important things.

The previous Pope sanctioned nudism and said something to the effect that the human body was created by god and is therefore not sinful, now if we can get an edict from the current Pope backing up the previous Pope's comments we are well on our way to wider acceptance.

Exactly. But frankly it wouldn't even take a Papal edict -- maybe just publishing the minutes of a meeting between the Vatican, Sicilia Naturista, Associazione Naturista Italiana e Italia naturista agreeing to establish a working group on guidelines for naturism... :)
