Nudist beach spy plan near Torquay (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23676163-2862,00.html)
Its kind of sad that this has to be done. People should be able to enjoy the beach in their natural state without having to worry about things like this.

But WOW. A government body that doesn't try to solve the problems caused by non-nudists by banning nudity is almost unprecedented. If nudists gave Nobel prizes I'd nominate the Surf Coast Shire council.

Naturist Mark,
Before you nominate Surf coast Shire, it's worth looking at the long and difficult fight we've had to get to this point over the last couple of years.
In July 2006, the Shire passed a resolution and subsequently wrote to the responsible Government Minister requesting that the legal status of the beach be revoked.
The solution is to try to find some common-ground and allies to work with in over-coming the problems that were caused by naked sex-seekers who most people thought were "nudists".
Our challenge was to convince them that just taking your clothes off outside doesn't make you a "nudist" - although the similar "uniform" is confusing to many!

The story looks like the cameras are all about protecting the real naturists. So it's fine with me.

The camera(s) are proposed for the carpark and posssibly some dune areas.
No suggestion that the beach is to be covered by any cameras, so we have no concerns about the protection of privacy for genuine nudists ( or at least no more than in other areas of businesses and cities where we are frequently monitored by CCTV).

Nude beach cameras canned (http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2009/01/16/44355_news.html)
Here's an update to the story.

seems a little odd

"Australian Nudist Association spokesman Werner Jacob said the cameras should have been fitted years ago"
Seems that the Australian Nudist Association was in favor of the cameras as an enforcement tool to keep the perverts and sex seekers out of area.
"The issue was inappropriate behaviour in the dunes "
Lawmaking 101 . Identify the problem.
"The law being enforced and policed solves the problem "
Imagine that!

abso-flippin-lutely, this is a case of the authorities on our side for a change, and any naturist who is worried about being watched by CCTV needs to examine their motives for being on a nudist beach.
Trust the local authority to do the right thing, enjoy the freedom to get naked, with the added bonus that you're less likely to be hit on by some degenerated freak.
Be happy.

who no longer report the stories full of moral outrage.
Although they sometimes go for a slightly risque headline (their job is to sell papers!), they now invariably contact us (I am "Rob") for comment whenever they run these stories, and have worked out that there is a big difference between "nudists" and people who go to the beach to take off their clothes and have sex!

Way to go Rob, now all you have to do is educate the other 500 newspapers in Australia that nudity does not equate to sex.
I called in at Corio Valley last year, are you a member, do you know Otwina?

Pete,
I think you've probaly been to more clubs, etc in Oz than me!
I'm mostly a "backyarder", but hit the beach and river-banks whenever I can (and spend too much time writing letters to Councillors and commenting to newpapers!).
The only local "resort" I've been to is Jajarawong, a bush retreat at Yandoit, near the Hepburn Springs / Daylesford Spa area of Central Victoria.
Cheers,
Rob
