Since Summer and sun-exposure time is upon us...Just wondering what sunscreens you guys like. Personally, I love the "continuous spray" ones, but they have a lot of alcohol in them, and can be very drying. ANYWAY... what do YOU like and why....

Coppertone Sport (lotion in blue bottle, spf 30-50) works well and seems to stay on longest even with sweat and water. Otherwise, I like the way Banana Boat sport (cream, spf 15-50) goes on - very smooth and dries fast but maybe doesn't last as long as Coppertone. Working about as well as either of the above, and much cheaper though harder to find, is No-Ad sport lotion spf 30-45. I use these sunscreens a lot at work, where I am outdoors most of the day, and at play.

I haven't tried the spray sunscreens for many years but it seems they would be most convenient. My wife found some pop up sunscreen wipes (like baby wipes) that work well and are very convenient for use on the face especially.

Coppertone Sport 30 or 50; you can get the same product in some other house brand labels at a bit better price. Works well.

I also like the Coppertone Sport. I use the oilfree formula. I have very fair and sensitive skin, so I am careful what I use. The Coppertone protects me against sunburn and does not give me a rash.

Banana Boat has a couple of pump sprays spf 30-35, these both work quite well for me as I was blessed with much fur. Much easier than any creams.
The continuous sprays work well for the kids, but the alchohol & the propellant cause it to be very cold.

I also like the Coppertone Sport *clip*
Well now, it sounds like Coppertone Sport is the clear winner so far! I was standing in front of a huge selection of sunscreens just last week. I ended up not getting one because i simply had no idea what to get! I guess i'll try this then! Thanks! :-)

I like most of the spray on oils in the pump bottles, either Coppertone or Banana Boat have good products. You can then go play tennis without having greasy hands...

Depends on what I'm doing and how warm it is. The Banana Boat is good, but I normally use the old reliable Coppertone lotion in the plastic bottle, #8. It has took good care of me for years, but if I go where it is really hot and plan to be in the sun for a long while I use something in the neighborhood of a #15.

I use NOAD SPF 45 or 50. It works for me and provides a broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays. I have also used the continuous sprays for my back, SPF 50, it too difficult to do my back by myself any other way and unless the wife is handy this is the best way for me to cover that area.

Are spray sunscreens really effective? I feel a little hesitant to try them since I have such fair skin and poorly applied sunscreen could be a disaster.

If I ever went to Jamaica, got drunk and got my hair braided (I'd have to be drunk to do that) I'd use a spray to protect my scalp if I didn't feel the need to hide under a big hat!

I think they are pretty effective if you get the right SPF rating (Sun Protection Factor) I was at Haulover 2 weeks ago with my friend Jessica and since I had been in the sun a few times before recently (although not nude in the ones before the Haulover trip) I used the SPF 15 spray. I am a light skinned dude of Irish descent and only slightly burned on my shoulders because I have a nasty habit of sitting up to chat with people so my shoulders were right in the direct sunlight for a great majority of my time there. I barely burned and within two days the red was gone and if I had used SPF 30 I would probably not have burned at all.

On her first trip to Haulover my old roommate Maria used the non-spray SPF 45 (also sold as baby sunblock) on her boobs because she had gotten a painful sunburn while topfree on South Beach several years prior. By the end of the day she still had somewhat of a tan line after the sun had set. If it had been a multi-day beach trip she probably would have become a uniform color. When me and some friends went to Cancun back in 2001 each of the guys had brought a different sunblock and when we realized it we decided to share. It was a 7 day trip and on the first day all of us used the SPF 45 that one had brought. When that ran out we shared the SPF 30 and after that the SPF 15. By the end of it we were all tanned and no one had any bit of a burn.

So basically I think that it's SPF number not spray vs cream matters for protection. If you are alone spray works better to hit those hard to reach places that your hands can't reach. If with another person it's not that big a deal. Also the advice from this pale Irishman is to put it on everywhere and than reapply within the hour. You will almost certainly have missed some small spot that will be red as hell by the end of the day. But the chances of missing the same spot twice are slim.

Yes, I know the pale Irish thing, since that is a big factor in my pasty skin. I also inherited the blonde hair, blue eyes from the British grandfather who figured the Vikings got into the gene pool.

Thanks for the info.

I got sunburned arms today having lunch outside. It is wonderful!
