We just got back from vacation, and for the first time in my life Iused a speedo type swimsuit. The is the least clothes I have ever worn in public, unfortumately. But it was a big step forward because my wife didn't seem to mind at all! I told her there is no one we know here so i am going to use it. She did say it was small, but she didn't object at all. It was also Europe, I'm not sure I would wear a suit like that in the USA, it would depend. It had a band that was just short of 3" in the smallest part and I later discovered I could fold the entire waistband inward and it would stay that way even in the water with waves and all, so that took off another inch to make it a hair short of 2" in the smallest part. I was extremely self conscious at the start because like someone else wrote on here I think these kind of suits draw even more attention than just plain simple nudity because they seem to really outline and accentuate everything and draw attention to those parts maybe more than nudity even. Even so, it sure felt good and free when compared to long baggy shorts! I think i ended up with the smallest suit among the males on the beach.

Congratulations on taking a step forward. I always felt self-concious in a Speedo-type suit because it seemed to draw attention to a certain area. Being nude, on the other hand, doesn't draw attention to them because it's just another body part.

I guess the next step is a visit to a nude beach or resort. Best of luck!

Good for you Josh!! When you have to wear a suit I think the Speedo type is the closest to wearing nothing. Glad you enjoyed the experience.

Yeah, I'd MUCH rather be totally naked, but if circumstances or situations don't permit it I guess it's the next best thing!!

hah, yeah. I get a "rush" from being in a speedo on the beach, but not from being naked. it's silly

I have to agree with you on that one. But I wear those types of suits anyway where I can't be nude. In fact I even wear the "Thong" type when I'm in the "clothing required" areas. I just feel that a Male shouldn't be required to cover any more than a Female is required to cover. It's not about how I look in it, but rather How I feel in it that matters.

I like fairly small speedo-type swim suits but not being so young tend these days to wear something more akin to tight boxer shorts. Have recently purchased a thong-style costume which almost completely exposes one's buttocks and look forward to plucking up the courage to wear it when I go to the Canary Islands next month, unless of course I find plenty of nude beaches (which I am assured are in reasonably plentiful supply on Fuenteventura).

I enjoy wearing speedos and they are the way to go when I can not go naked and I enjoy tanning as much as possible and the speedos I do wear are like yours and used them "down under" and here on the west coast. So enoy them when you can and tan and put plenty of sunblock with or without speedos. that is why this is my logo on the site. have a nice day.

The tan through suits also work well when you must have a suit on.

Speedos are the only swim suits that I own. When I need to wear a suit, which is rare, they are what I wear. Mine are about about 1 1/2" on the sides. I cut out the mesh "modesty" panels in the front.

Bought some European suits smaller than a Speedo in department stores in Singapore and wore those in my front yard in Baton Rouge. Wore them out. These didn't have any modesty panels.

I cut those annoying "Modesty Panels" out of the suits too. All they seem to do is trap sand in them when I'm playing in the surf.
As for getting up the courage to wear them, I wouldn't hesitate. I don't care if I'm the only guy on the beach wearing a thong. Sure I get a few crosseyed looks from the prudes, but ignore them and just go about my business. It doesn't take too long and most of them learn to accept it. I've even taken the time to talk with some of them and once they get to know me they relax and enjoy the day as much as I do.

As my avatar show, I wear a speedo, only a speedo, and I'm from probaly one of the least instyle, boardshorts or cut off bluejeans wearing parts of the country there is. I've been wearing the speedo since it was first introduced into america, I suppose. At least I know I've worn it since I was 16 and been comfortable in it any and everywhere I've ever been, that I had to wear a suit.I've had the looks and been questioned, but I'm comfortable in it, have the body for it and that will be my swimwear as long as I choose to wear it. By the way, I love and wear the tan through speedo soley now myself.

In Russia (and I suppose in Europe too), it is customarily for men of all ages to wear speedo on a beach. Long shorts in american style are not popular.

Since I was in my teens (and dinosaurs roamed the earth) I wore a Speedo type swimsuit and never saw a need to do otherwise when the styles changed. During those years I attended a middle school where the boys swam nude during their gym class (No, it was not coed), and swimming at the YMCA after school during my high school years was done in the nude as well.

I think it's rather amusing that as female suits get smaller, males seem to cover almost their entire lower body and have only waist-up tans.

Personally I hate tan lies, but wearing just enough to stay out of jail seems to be a good idea as far as I'm concerned.

Personally I hate tan lies ...

So do I! Tell the truth and take it off!

I started swimming about five years ago and started to wear speedo type suits for that. They really are much more comfortable for swimming. I also enjoyed the extra exposure for tanning when having to wear a swimsuit. So I don't think much about it. A few years ago my wife and I went on a cruise and I some along and was very comfortable wearing them on the ship while on the lounge chairs. My wife was surprised to see them. I also had bought a thong suit and wore that a few times for fun. She was even more surprised when I pulled the speedo off and had that on. She did say she enjoyed seeing me in it, but also was embarrassed. I have some other thongs with side clips that I wear at the beach on some of the local lakes. By unclipping them I get rid of most of the tan lines and if someone comes along I just reclip them and it just looks like a skimpy speedo on the front side. If I can't be nude, then I try to minimize the swimsuit I wear. In crowds of people then I go back to something with more coverage, but sure don't like the comfort level with those.

The least ive worn in public is just shorts. Since my parents dont like nudity and even frown on semi-nudity ive never gotten the courage to wear a speedo suit or gasp!-a thong! ive always wanted to try one of those speedo suits but I dont know where I could go to wear them in southern california without getting in trouble with the law or running into any of my snoopy relatives which would squeal on me to my parents. Seriously I really need to find a job so i can get out and get away from them and enjoy more nude or semi-nude experiences. Being around them and my family is repressive.

Are they also burn through?

Possibly, the tan-thru suits I've bought were said to be the equivalent of SPF 7. Or probably even less since I always rip out the lining (made of panty-hose type material).

Another advantage of Speedo-type suits:

You can slip them off in the water and loop them around an ankle for complete freedom while swimming. Just remember to dive under the oncoming waves rather than jumping over them, or you may loose the suit completely while flashing those nearby. Try looping a paid of "Board Shorts" or standard swim trunks around an ankle.

I have done this on a couple of occasions, even spoke to people while suitless and nobody was the wiser.

We went to St Martin during February. We took advantage of the nude beaches where we could. For the other beaches where you had to have a suit, I wore a tan thru suit. It is the same size as a speedo but allows you to continue tanning. It does provide an SPF of 6 to 7 but eliminates tan lines.

The advantage of the Caribbean or Europe in the past. I find that men wear much more conservative swinsuits in North America.

I was at Tybee once when there were a group of teen males with loose fitting shorts. Before they went into the water, you could have thought they were plumbers.

One of them fell under the water and came up in a momentary panic. The shorts fell, and I presume they were around his ankles, in his panic he took them off and ran out of the water.

Once he had gotten his breath back he realized he was standing there naked. His shorts were no where.

So, I guess it is easier to take the speedo off if you want to put it back on.

I'm a scuba diver and figure that a speedo style suit is really rather practical. Up here in the north (at least relative to the Caribbean), 7mm wet suits or a dry suit are absolutely essential. It never ceases to amaze me when someone wears baggy trunks and then proceeds to wiggle into all that neoprene. I've worn my speedo ever since I started diving in 2006 and as a fiftyish male no one has said a thing.

In the Caribbean the wet suits are thinner (typically 3mm to 5mm) but no less clingy. Then again, by diving up here I can dive there and not feel cold without a wet suit. Have I gone diving with no suit? My first dive ever (a resort certification introductory dive) was au naturel during a stay at Eden Bay.

like an earler poster because of my family I have nrver been swimming publicly wearing any less than bathiing trunks. They are strict non-nudists and would never put up with anything less from an adult. With young kids they sometimes allow only underwear or with really little ones sometimes nothing but not as an adult. They tell me that when I was little I was always wanting to run around naked but eventually they put a stop to that at least in front of other people. I never stopped wanting to be naked just got more careful who saw me or else I would have problems with my family. I have been skinny dipping many times in relatives private pools but always when alone. They would never allow it with anyone else there.

I have done this for years and no one has ever noticed, even people standing a foot away from me wile in the ocean.

I was at the beach last week and there was a young guy who showed up wearing real short cut offs. He went to the restroom and came out wearing shorts that hung between his knees and his ankles. I think they call them Board Shorts. I asked him why he took his short pants off and put longer pants on to go swimming? I said, shouldn't it be the other way around. He didn't answer me.
