Several people from the Pilgrim Naturists group and others are planning a trip departing Boston, MA and vicinity and reaching Lighthouse Beach on Long Island (NY). Date for the beach trip/arrival is Saturday Sept 6.
The group plans on taking the ferry over from New London, CT.
General plans at this writing are for some of the group to stay overnight near the beach and return to the Boston area on Sunday.
Interested parties can contact us at "pilgrim@sunclad.com" and I can place you in contact with the trip Coordinator, Steve. Steve is the fellow who usually assists people reaching the nude beach at Martha's Vineyard island 1-2 times a summer for our group.
This is a pay-your-own-way event. No registration or other fees. Group consensus.

It appears that you never did make it to Lighthouse Beach (LHB). Too bad the weather
did not cooperate. I recently was planning a trip there, and a search in this forum
presented your aborted plans. I was hoping to see a trip report. So I will provide one
for the next person searching for LHB info.
We went Sunday, September 21, 2008. The last day of summer. The weather forecasts for
Monday & Tuesday were not very good, so we braved the Horrible New York Sunday
traffic. It was great weather. 77 degrees, light breeze from the west. Parking lot 5
was nearly full. I used Google Earth to estimate the size of the lot, and it holds
about 2400 cars. Some of which are for Robert Moses textile beach, but a good number
go to the LHB clothing optional areas. We had been there 3 times before, but never saw
such crowds. I can only imagine what it is like mid-summer.
The boardwalk which starts from the middle of the east side of the parking lot does
not go directly to the c.o. beach, as I had mistakenly remembered it. It comes out on
a dirt road which you take to the right, and then another right on the first boardwalk
which crosses the dunes. This leaves you in the middle of the c.o. section. You can
then walk either left or right. We walked all the way left to the end of the c.o.
section without finding a clear place large enough to plop our stuff down. But we did
anyway.
I heard they usually setup the volleyball net right there, but today they were forced
to move east into textile land. On arrival, it appeared that we had wandered into the
gay section. But after several other mf couples set up nearby, it became more evenly
mixed. Question: Is that the traditional gay section? I had not noticed one in our
previous visits.
There have been other threads concerning inappropriate behaviour which mention LHB.
There was none visible on this day. Due to recent beach erosion, the useable beach was
about 35 feet wide, just enough for 3 or 4 blankets between the shore dropoff and the
dunes. I noticed no one in the dunes. I heard someone mention that they have not seen
people in the dunes on many of his trips there. The close proximity to others appears
to inhibit sexual activity. I took a 5 minute hike (Bathing suit on) past the textile
area in front of the lighthouse over to the eastern c.o. section. It was wider, and
the people were more dispersed. Lots of room. Lots of windbreaks there, whereas back
at the closer, western section it would have been rude to put up a windscreen right
"in your face". I did see what could be called inappropriate behaviour at the west end
of the textile area, near the volleyball court. Two couples, female topless were
"making out" One guy was grabbing her breasts. I don't know if this is illegal, but
due to their closeness to the c.o. section, I suppose we would be blamed for it.
The wind was from the west most of the day, as indicated on an inexplicable flag with
the word "Gunnison" on it. The water was 70 degrees, and was excellent for swimming.
About 3 or 3:30 the wind shifted to from the south, and it got chilly. People needing
sweatshirts. Overall, an excellent day. Hope we get back there more often next summer.

Nice to read that you had a pleasant day. Mid September can bring really nice outdoor activities. My guess on the Gunnison Flag is that it may have been brought by someone, or even a group from NJ's Sandy Hook nude beach, known as Gunnison beach. That is also a nice place to lay your towel down for a rest. A friend of mine works on LI now, and I plan to head out next summer, hopefully to plan a beach trip to Lighthouse. Thank you for the report.
