I remember rushing home from school to watch Dark Shadows in black and white. We were talking about old TV shows and got on one that was called Tales of the Golden Monkey. We found that there is a web sit <www.goldmonkey.com> that goes in to detail about it. But the coolest thing is that he also runs a store that has a lot of odd TV shows that only lasted a season or two on DVD and they are very reasonablly priced. Even if you are not interested in buying, it might be worth taking a look to see how many you can remember.

If you want to talk about British sitcoms --

"Doctor in the House" was the prototype for "Temperatures Rising"
"Man about the House" was the original "Three's Company"
"Steptoe and Son" was the show that spawned "Sanford and Son"
"Till Death Do Us Part" was Americanized and became "All in the Family"

A lousy US show from the 60s = "Many Happy Returns", became the basis for "Are You Being Served?"

Four US shows dealt with people of one class background trying to co-exist with another ... "Beverly Hillbillies", "Green Acres", "The Baileys of Balboa" and "Pruitts of Southhampton" (latter two failed miserably) -- gave someone the idea for one of the greatest shows of that genre ever made =

"Keeping Up Appearances", with Hyacinthe Bucket (but pronounce it "Boo-kay").

I used to say that if something was on TV once, then I saw it. Since I haven't had cable since 1996, I'm getting a bit behind.

Here are some of my favorites, for different reasons.
ABCNews Our World
The Charmings
I'm a Big Girl Now (Martin Short was a cast member)
Bosom Buddies
Soap (In the Summer, reruns were shown Fridays at 11:30, so kids couldn't see it in Prime time. Mom encouraged us to watch. It was too funny.)
Dean Martin
Jackie Gleason
The Hudson Brothers Comedy Hour
Barney Miller
The Sunday Mystery Theater
... I could go on, but I'll leave it for the next poster.

Fitz1980

Babylon 5
Battlestar Galactica (the original)
Highlander
The X-Files
Firefly
Seaquest

Hey is that how you figure out you are getting old, when all of your favorite TV shows are shows that have been off the air for years? Seems that these days I would rather watch reruns and DVDs than most of today's stuff.

Yeah, growing up we were lucky enough to have a black & white TV, the kind with those rabbit ears you had to keep adjusting!

No, I don't recall ever watching "Mutual Omaha's Wild Kingdom" but heard of it. "Flipper" we watched, although we weren't allowed to watch too much TV.

Oooh.. Creature Features scared me as a kid! Unfortunately my mother used to make us watch scary movies with her.. I didn't realize "Elvira" was a TV show/sitcom. Her movie, "Elvira Mistress of the Dark" was very funny though!

Here's a few more!

The Brady Bunch
The Honeymooner's (with Jackie Gleason)
Northern Exposure
Car 54, Where are You?
Lawrence Welk Show
Dukes of Hazzard
Mork & Mindy
Howdy Doody (as Chief Thunderthud would say "Kawabonga")

Yeah, I remember those shows. You had 4 or 5 channels? You were blessed. We had 2 VHF channels (NBC & CBS) out of Toledo, later a UHF (ABC) station started up.

Another old show has come to mind, The Millionair. My father loved to watch Outer Limits, but it gave me nightmares. So I would go watch Gallent Men on the old set.

I remember "Gidget" and "The Flying Nun". Both with Sally Fields. I Loved those shows!

Last night I was browsing through the channels and noticed an old sci-fi comedy is returning:

"3rd Rock from the Sun". It's kind of silly but entertaining.

Speaking of sci-fi comedies, I remember these:

Alf
Lost in Space
Small Wonder (about a family who has a girl robot named Vicki)

I almost forgot..

The Bionic Woman (with Lindsay Wagner)
Six-Million Dollar Man
Nancy Drew (mystery series)
Hardy Boys (mystery series)
The Little Rascals
Gimme a Break
Richard Simmons (exercise show) -- Anyone actually watch this show?!

There was another older exercise show "Jack LaLaine", back in the 60's with wife Jane LaLaine. What an inspiration. Jack LaLaine is still alive and well, in his 90's!

"3rd Rock from the Sun" off the wall comedy. I loved it. :)

Mom watched and did all the stuff on the the Jack LaLaine show. She (my mom) would get her chair out and do the exercises. :)

As to the Hardy Boys, I don't remember that as a TV show, but I think I read just about every book that was published. My sister was into Nancy Drew.

As to "Richard Simmons" yep watched that too. I saw him on a TV commercial last night. I always thought there was something a bit strange about that guy.

Also never missed the "Little Rascals" show.

I can't remember the name of the show. But on Saturday morning there was a few hours of cartoons that we always watched.

Not quite, just 'nipping your heels' by a few years though..

If you've ever noticed, Jack LaLaine is about 5' in height. In an interview way back.. As a kid, he got beat up by the other boys in school. Afterwards he ended up training to where he could defend himself then worked his way upwards. He mentioned years later how most of those kids were either so out of shape or dead. Yeah, we'd get out our chairs and do those stretching exercise with mom too. All I remember is that navy short-sleeved jumpsuit Jack always wore. He'd do jumping jacks to the tune of that organ music, sometimes with Jane and their white german shepard! Ha ha! Jack doesn't compare to Richard Simmons, although Simmons helped alot of people get back into shape. Yeah, he's a strange dude alright . . very feminine-like. .

Speaking of cartoons...

Batman
Ritchie Rich (original version)

Some kid's shows...

Major Astro (1960's)
Amos 'n Andy (1950's)
Roy Rogers Show (1950's)
The Lone Ranger (with Tonto)
The Muppets (with Miss Piggy, Kermit The Frog...)
Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood

I Love Sonny & Cher!

The car from this show now resides in Edmonton Alberta. I got to view it before anyone else did. I was at the antique auto repair shop getting some parts for my Model'A' and the owner of the shop invited me back to look at it. It is a missmash of different makes and I was not impressed at all with the craftsmanship. UNTIL........the shop owner pointed to the wierd looking RADIO SET.

For about 10 seconds I could feel my hair stand on end, very funny feeling, and then it hit me! This is the car from that Show! The shop owner started laughing! Then he said 'Ive been having fun all week with customers, pointing to the RADIO SET.

It's funny how you can COMPLETELY FORGET about a show, and it only takes one little thing to jog your memory. If that RADIO SET had been missing I would have been STUMPED!
