Oscar Wilde described fox hunting as, "The unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible."

One wonders what he would have said of Palin. Perhaps something along the lines of, "The reprehensible in support of the barbarous."

So much for the neo-evangelical custodianship of planet earth and its inhabitants. Damn, why aren't these people in analysis instead of running for office.

If you're going to hunt, at least make it 'fair', as fair as huting an animal that isn't armend with guns can be.

My brother's inlaws go hunting, but they hunt for food, and they use bows more than guns.

This isn't even worth voting on. The question is too biased.

Then don't vote or comment if it's not worth it. Where's the bias. Aerial hunting is not hunting it is barbarous slaughter. You're either for it or against it. That's the question. Seems simple enough.

Sarah Palin recently implied that part of her foreign policy "experience" is because ..Putin rears his head over Alaska...

I bet even Putin thought this was funny. :D

Hunting can mean quite a few things.

If the goal of the hunting is ecological culling, or the deliberate eradication of a problem or invasive species - aerial hunting is no more morally troubling than any other sort of hunting. But it certainly isn't sport.

If the goal of the aerial hunting is to cull a natural predator species so that there will be more moose and caribou for sport hunters to enjoy killing, then it is essentially immoral. That is culling in order to create an artificial excess of prey species for the entertainment of people, not for the betterment of any natural species.

If it's not endangered or threatened and it's going to be on somebody's dinner plate hunt away. I do think aerial hunting, drive-by hunting (yes people do that, at least in the south) and most traps are really low class to put it mildly but I have no problem with normal hunting.

Hunting should only be done to put food on the table or for public safety, and not from an airplane or car!

That's why I go to factcheck.org: so I can get the whole story instead of just one side:

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/call_of_the_wild.html

Well...if she does have constituents that live off the land, and the wolves are swiping their lunch from right under their nose - so to speak; I can understand the support for wolf population control. But I also feel that alternative methods should be explored and brought to the table. The methodology employed here is certainly morally objectionable.

Thanks for the clarification Nudony. That makes sense. Aerial hunting is still horrible, and I think beter methods can be used.

I live in an area similar to Governor Palin's. People hunt, and people ranch. Every now and again we hear of livestock being killed by coyotes or wolves. People find ways to manage the predators without the use of planes. Though quads are sometimes used, and I think that seems like cheating to me as well.

I think every state should manage their wildlife as they see fit. People from other states/countries should not tell them how to manage things. Shoting from an aircraft is not an easy thing to do. If they have the need to cull out some of the preditors I would think that putting a bounty on them and trapping would be more effective in results and cost.
