I've been shaving for twenty years and have found that people donot seem to have any problems with it. In the shower room and the sauna at the gym no one has ever said a word about my shaved pubes. On the beach, quite a few others are also shaved.
I've been to 9 different doctors, and again no comments - I have had a few saying "Great tan" and "do you get your tan outdoors on in a atanning booth?" I assure them that it comes from a healthy nudist lifestyle.

I have been totally smooth for so long that these days, I do not hear any negative comments. However, I still hear this question once in awhile: Why do you shave everything? My answer is simple: Because I just love the look and the feeling of being totally hairless.

I started shaving because my gf at time liked it, I had done it as a surprise, and so I did it on occasion for her. After we broke up I just started to do it on a regular basis and my roommates knew I did it, it would get around at work, and if we were talking to a few girls there they would mention it, but scoffing at the idea. I got more interest from girls because of it. In fact one of the things that interested my current wife was the fact that I shaved and had never known a guy to do that. Its far more common now of course, but it didn't seem to be a number of years ago. :)

Shaving is so common these days, especially among young adults, that there's little to no reaction.
My personal trainer actually shaves his whole body. My little brother, who is 6yrs younger than I, shaved his chest/arms/pubes.
When I am at the gym, I see it quite often (esp. among younger men) shaved.
As for pubic shaving, I see men with shaved pubic hair once in a while.
I occasionally shave and when I do, I don't get any reactions as no one seems to care. On a few occasions I have been asked about my shave (i.e. what do I use, how often etc etc)

I shave stomach, pubes, shaft, scrotum and trim chest. I see many guys at my gym with shaved pubic areas. Like the previous posts..most are younger males (20's). I get no negative reactions. Shaving is very common these days.

Its kindav like you miss your pre-puberty period.I would realy like to do a study onthat phenomenen! Please,I am not looking for a debate here, its just my humble position.
I think there could mainly be two reasons, maybe more.
a)You miss something of your pre teen years, your innoscence and carefree life. Its speaks to me somehow of that longing for the young hairless child you once used to be.It makes you feel noticed, cared for and protected. Its somewhat facinating seeing adults shaved clean esp around the genitals.
b)One needs to stress the size or composure of the genitals. It gives a funny sort of feeling looking at it.I have seen many people, especialy males shaving around the groin, and they usualy have huge endowments. When my son asks me why uncles do that,i am sort of in a catch 22 situation. What do I tell him?I usually just tell him that that uncle wants to show us his penis is big.
But,the problem is this...what if you are a buisiness man on a trip somewhere and the hair starts growing back...Aaaahr...the itch!

There are more than two reasons. And you can tell your son they just like it that way giving him no preconceptions at all. You do not have to answer in detail all of your sons questions.
My reason for my first shave, as I mentioned, was for my girlfriend. I knew some girls did it, and I thought it would be something nice for my gf if I did it. The feeling, sexually, of being shaved is very nice. I occasionally did it, and she occasionally did it, it wasn't an all time thing for either of us at that time. It wasn't until we broke up that I shaved more often. When I married my current wife we started getting waxed, now we both get zapped. (lasered) No itchy stubble no more. :)
I remember one time at work one of my roommates started telling the guys I shaved and a bunch of them started laughing, but one other guy agreed with me, and both of us told the rest that shaving is much better and women like it more. One of the girls in the place walked by and asked what we were talking about and my roommate told her. She just said that yes, girls like it more if guys are shaved, then walked away. I think razor sales went up that night. lol
I've never been in a position where when I am naked other people will comment on it. Doctors certainly haven't cared. Its only been in work situations and guys start talking.

tough for me to answer this one. i have not been in a non nudist setting for other males to view my being smooth. not sure what kind of reaction i would get. when we first met our friends for a nude outing from an online nudist site, they didn't seem to matter. the kids gave me the once stare over and that was it.

Shaving is just a personal preference. Do you shave your face? Why? Because you like it that way. It really is that simple. Some people like Vanilla and for those who don't they make chocolate and strawberry and a host of other flavors. I don't see what the big deal is. If your kid asks why people do anything the correct answer is because they probably like it that way.

I had never heard of it at all or seen it until I started visiting nudist forums.
But according to what some have written here more non-nudist young men are doing it.
I've never seen it in locker room settings, but then i'm not in those settings that often and don't pay that much attention.
It sure does seem to be extremely popular in nudist cicles!
I guess women differ in their likes too. I have read some female comments that didn't liken it at all. They liked hairy men and they thought such a thing looked kind of "unmasculine".
But the first time I saw it in naturist photos, I have to be honest that it just looked weird to me. Especially when it's older and middle aged-men, like another person wrote on a shaving thread (on another forum I think) it makes them look like rotund pre-pubiscent boys with old bodies, or like extremely large babies. That was my impression too when I first saw it. I just thought it looked funny.

I started shaving my pubic area quite some time ago but, I wouldn't consider myself to be a smoothie...its mostly to keep things tidy.
My buddies noticed this the first time in while we were changing for a soccer game. At first they cracked jokes & giggled. But, eventually the next time we met again while changing for soccer I saw that some of them had followed in my stead. They admitted that it was much cooler & more practical & hygienic especially in our tropical weather.
Another time was during a full body massage. The masseuse noticed that I was shaved & commented that she noticed that it was seldom that Asian guys shaved. I explained to her how it was my preference & my reasons for doing so to which she complimented the idea & suggested that the majority of Malaysian guys should do the same.

Exactly If shaving pubes or body is about returning to prepubescence wouldn't that be true of face shaving as well. SO we should all have full beards.
It just a preference nothing else no ulterior motive. I prefer how it looks and feels

I agree on the whole "personal preference, just like shaving your face or growing your (head) hair" position. Personally I've been trimming my own stuff for around a decade; I'm 28. Mostly because I'm a tall skinny guy who tends to grow long spindly hair that I think is a bad combination. I started just trimming it down; I still remember the first time I did my pubic regon, the day before a nude 5K run in Georgia. It just felt good, than I slowly started trimming more off, over the next few weeks, until I was totally bare down there.
I also shave my chest, armpits and butt to the skin while just trimming my legs and arms. I just like the way that it feels and looks. Might as well ask why I've had some type of facial hair since 2001.
To the ones who say that it makes men look like overgrown babies; anything that you aren't used to looks strange at first. "The Sopranos" had an episode where a mobster who had been in prison since 1984 said the strangest thing since his release was girls shaving their bushes, "I was in the Bada-Bing (strip club) the other day and it was like the girl scouts in there." Personally I've heard more stuff from textiles about shaving my chest than I have from anyone who has seen me naked about shaving that area. I'm 28 years old and among my generation it's very common. Just like every generation they have their own thing. My parents wedding album shows my dad with 1970s long hippy hair, something I could never imagine him with. Jeff Foxworthy said it best when he pointed out that in 40 years everybody's gray haired grandma will be named Jennifer or Tiffany and have a "tramp stamp" tattoo.

I don’t completely shave mine. I leave a small trimmed bush as does my wife. I haven’t been in many non-nude situations where people have seen me, but the few times I have been in a locker room, I had a few minor looks, but no comments.
I did recently have a vasectomy done, and they ask that you shave the scrotum before the procedure, but of course mine was already bare. The doctor said “nice shaving job”.

It was actually pretty popular amongst most of my male friends in high school. I have never had anyone comment on it in a nude setting. It has become so natural for me that I don't even think about it.

I have been shaving all body hair for the past 14 years. Luckily for me my ancestry was not very hairy. I like the smooth clean feeling and believe it or not initial experience I felt nudier than nude - hard to imagine I know. I love it and the only hair I retain is on my head and a moustace.
Been to the locker room on my job, employer provided a gym & facilities, PowerHouse gym, and Bally's, no one in any of those lockers rooms ever made a comment or questioned me about being shaved. I did get a couple of double take glances on occassion but now that does not even happen. First time in these locker rooms I admit I was a little nervous and figured if questioned I was just going to tell the truth - personal preference and I like it.
One comment I experienced when being preped for hernia surgery. I told the nurse I was already shaved but she insisted that I probably was not shaved close enough and she would have to do it herself. Okay, I was not bashful, pulled up my gown and she had such an astonished look on her face. She studied me closely and admitted I had done a nice job and there was nothing for her to do.

When I turned 55 all my pubes turned gray/white and I didn't have a gray hair on my head and that bothered me. When my wife retired we took a long vacation to the southwest US and we were free as birds for 6months. While being on the wild side I was teasing her about shaving herself and she said she would if I did. So what stated out as a joke has turned permanent for me, NO more gray pubes and she really loves it so there is no reason to not do it anymore.:)

I don't shave off all the pubic hair above my genitals but keep it trimmed very short (maybe around 1/4 inch), and shave my scrotum smooth. Having done this for many years, I have had no negative comments (or comments or any sort, really) in our community pool or gym changing room. I have seen other men in the changing rooms shaved totally (uncommon) or partially (not uncommon). And I see lots of men shaved at our nude beach, among a variety of ages. Its not that uncommon.

I myself like the smooth look and my wife likes me doing it as well, and we are both smooth. It makes me not sweat so much and the lotion and suntan stuff helps with my tan. now I have to wait for warmer weather unless I go to a tanning salon. Have a nice day and keep smooth.

When my wife developed some grey hair, all her pubic hair always remained flaming red color (until her death). I thought that this red pubic hair was very nice and attractive and I would have been "heart broken" if she would have ever decided to shave off this flaming red pubic hair.

Shaving is so common now I can't imagine it gets much of a reaction - and in Germany having a full pubic bush is far more remarkable than a trimmed or shaved body.

Lovely statement!
However, I come from the thinking that pubic hair is as natural as being naked and have never had any desire to shave. It makes no difference to me if my pubic area grays as this is also natural. Again, whether you shave or not is a personal choice and I choose to be all natural. :)

Thanks for the advice. I finely got up the courage to ask her about it and she said for me to do what ever I like with it. She does not like the smooth look on here because she thinks it looks to much like a little kid then. I have read posts on here and it seems like quite a few people think that way. I personally don't think of it that way but everyone has to be comfortable with what they do.

I started shaving after a Hernia surgery when the area was half shaved anyway. I figured I might as well even it out.
The only Non Nudists that have seen me nude are My wifes sisters, a couple nieces, and a nephew. Other than at my own home and yard I don't have occasion to be nude around non nudists.
A couple of the SIL's have asked why I shave. I just tell them it's cause it feels better and their sister (my wife) likes it that way.

I like being smooth. Like I said the only reason I have let it grow back as much as I have is because I was not sure how she would like it. I guess I worry to much what other people think about me.
My girlfriend and I are both shaved enjoy the look and feel very much. Shaving seems to be the norm in the nudist community but I don't think it is very common in the overall population.
Over the last 5 years, I have been in situations 3 times where a doctor, or medical professional has seen me shaved, and were surprised and even commented on it.
I'm not sure if they were surprised because of my age, or because of the fact that I live in a small city, or what.
In any case, I don't think it's as common as some people think.
Maybe I'm wrong.

I have shaved my lower genital region very smooth, and trimmed the upper area to less than 1/8th inch length. I have visited the doctor for annual physicals twice, and been to a nudist resort since I started this.
And have received absolutely no reaction whatsoever. My wife, who is not a nudist comments on my decolletage from time to time, more as a bit of humor.
But she also keeps herself trimmed fairly close since I adopted this fashion. But I sense that she feels a bit self conscious about it during her healthcare visits. Her only remark when I ask her to remove it fully (and she has permitted me to help her do this from time to time - "I can do a better jog and get everything" - her own words), is that she feels that she has lost her badge of womanhood. Like the presence of hair there somehow marks her as a mature woman. I telll her that the presence or absence of hair there makes not one bit of difference in being perceived as mature.

I started trimming and experimenting with shaving about 10 years ago. I enjoyed helping my wife shave her bikini line and took more off than she was used to. She complained that it was uncomfortable while it grew in a little. But I sure did enjoy the look of it on her. So I started to shave a little of my pubic hair off and trimmed it shorter. I found I enjoyed the feeling and how it looked. I got to shaving more off and the patch of pubic hair was getting smaller and smaller. One time I just decided to take it all off. Boy was my wife surprised. She did complain about the stubble once it started to grow back in. I did let it grow back for awhile but went back to shaving some off. After keeping it shaved with a small patch for awhile, I noticed my wife was shaving more and more of her pubic hair which was nice. I finally shaved all the pubic hair off and kept it that way with regular shaving of the area and stay that way for most of the year. At times I let it grow back for maybe two months and then shave it all off. I just prefer to keep it bare.
I was concerned about being bare of pubic hair at the locker room. But have noticed different levels of trimming and shaving. There are a number of men I have notice that trim and do some shaving. So now I don't think much about it. No one has said anything or asked me about it.

Yes, agree with that. I use a Philips Bodygroom shaver (too scared to use real blades!), and like the feel of being shaved. Had a number of medical procedures recently, and no-one commented at all - to be honest, I was disappointed they didn't mention my all-over tan!

When the Doc said "This is the optional part to check for a hernia and the prostate", I dropped trou and he did the hernia check first, then the prostate. My prostate was mildly enlarge probably due to age. No a word was mentioned about lack of hair. I had not trimmed other pubic hair for a while, so I was a little shaggy elsewhere.

I have to admit shaving is becoming more common in naturist settings. I am not athletic and most of my physical activity includes walking or biking during the summer. During the winter I use a treadmill at home. In the past I do not remember seeing any guys shaved at the local gym. I find that the larger the city you are in the more accepting people are.
My wife was originally surprised when I started shaving 3 years ago but actually prefers it that way now. She just recently started shaving completely also.

My own mother, said to me as a teen, "Why can't you just shave all that hair off, so they don't fall on the toilet and floor, besides your hairs get caught in the zipper of your pants." So, from early on, mother mostly thru suggestion kept after me to just shave my chest, under arms and pubs.
Well she was right about the hairs in the zipper part, but she believed in good cleanness and no oders too.
Don't ever remember getting razor rash, but I sure love the feel of being smooth.

Was at a nude venue recently where I saw a guy so hairy it looked like he was dressed, but he had shaved his pubic area. It looked like he was saying, "hey look at my pubic area". Because he's so hairy it draws your attention right to it. Looked totally out of place.

A naked body...at a nude club/resort shouldn't "look outta place" just cuz this person decides to shave only a certain portion of his body. This lifestyle isn't about body aesthetics!
If that's what he wants and only wants to shave....why is that weird, strange...or calling attention to that area? This person may be one of the coolest/most interesting guys you've ever met but...because he only shaved his pubic area...you didn't feel comfortable just getting to know HIM. ;)
Gotta focus on what's important..........

OK, consider me rebuked. I wasn't trying to be as judgmental as it sounded. I just thought it looked strange given the rest of his body.

i've been shaving myself bald for just over 2 years now and will never grow hair. when i had a solid relationship with my gf i thought i'd tell her i'm a nudist and that i shave all pubic hair off. I was expecting a shocked reaction but she simply replied that she shaves all hers off too :-D so i'm thinking its pretty much becoming the norm nowadays and having pubic hair is getting considered as strange. oh and btw... happy for me because my gf liked the idea of me being a nudist and said i'll be able to be nude anytime i want around home :-D

I've been shaving underarms and pubic region for hygiene reasons for nearly thirty years and I believe I have had only one comment in that period of time. Most people don't say anything.

I have shaved completely only once and it felt wonderful. The wife said she did not like the my without hair, looked to much like a little boy, so now I just trim. I like the manicured look over the wild unkept look, But that's just me. I do love the shaved look on women. To each their own.

No, it shouldn't be, but it is for some people. An oft-heard refrain stated by smoothies is "I love the look". It's funny ...... I don't recall you ever berating anyone saying that, by telling them "this lifestyle isn't about body aesthetics".

Someone "so hairy it looked like he was dressed" who shaves only his pubic area IS calling attention to that area, whether or not he intends to. If he shaved a large circle in his chest hair, he'd be calling attention to that area; if he shaved a triangle in his back hair, he'd be calling attention to that area. It's no different for the pubic area.

On what did you base that poison arrow? It certainly wasn't from anything in dakref's post.
In message #48 of this thread, someone said shaving "makes me a little horny". As a moderator, you might want to spend less time in the role of the 'thought police' and more time addressing things like that.

Am a moderately hairy guy, I had to visit my female family doctor for a lump in my groin. I just lowered my boxers enough to show her the lump and she asked if I had any testicle pain and asked to check them. I had just shaved the scrotum 12 hours before. She never even commented about the lack of hair. My pubes are kept trimmed. The lump has shrunk after some anti-biotics.

I have never gone completely pube free as I still do want to look like a man rather than a boy. LOL LOL LOL. I have trimmed and shaved the snail trail but I always get the little red bumps which makes it look ugly and uncomfortable. Never tried shaving balls or shaft as I am too nervous. Would hate to cut myself there.

The times I've shaved portions of my body I've enjoyed it. It more a matter of the maintenance of keeping it shaved. So, has anyone found an electric razor that makes the job any easier?;)

I've done it a few times, but not on a regular basis ; for vacation trip to the clothesfree beaches it's great to prevent the sand and bugs, and help for quicker drying.
Yes it is becoming a larger trend even in teenagers now. With nude sport guy/teams footlball ( soccer for the Americans ) calendars innondating the internet, young guys are daring to try it. Heck it's the trend in Porn ( women and men ) and that all we are exposed to.
Last summer at the beach I saw alot of teenage groups, girls and boys who were shaved and made no big deal about it either way.
We are in 2009 ! Try it and live if you want.

who cares what or how someone else reacts to your being shaved?
It's your body, not theirs.
this is exactly what i was thinking too.

While I don't fully shave, I use clippers to keep pubic hair short starting in early Spring. Keeps the ticks from finding new homes when I'm wandering around in the woods. So far, about the only reaction I've seen has been a raised eyebrow but no questions. I have however had a few comments about my all over tan, mostly from nurses when I was in the hospital and they were all positive.

When I've been in locker rooms at the gym, I've noticed a guy or two noticing me; but I've never had any comments.

I have been totally smooth from nose to toes for the past 20 years. I do recall that, back then, people were making all king of remarks and some were negatives. It didn't bother me because I didn't care what people thought in seeing a male completely hairless. I did it for myself. Now, nobody says anything.

Well back then when a male shaved they figure he was gay or out of place but I have been doing it since I was in my early 20s and haven't had any problems and I'm not gay. I just enjoy the freedom and how it was cleaner look. Once in awhile I get a comment how nice it looks being all clean shaven. I really not a hairy person but I only have hair on arms, top of head and keep that to a minimum. Until the next time keep warm and dry!
