Does any one have any statistics regarding the percentage of Americans who consider themselves nudists? What about in Europe? In New Zealand? In Australia?

I'll bet you it is the highest in Europe (in countries like Germany), followed by Australia (they seem like such an open-minded country to me), then New Zealand, with the USA in the last place as far as percentages are concerned.

the USA in the last place as far as percentages are concerned.
I would think middle eastern countries would be in last place, the US not to far behind though.

For some reason you didn't ask about your closest neighbour to the north, but the Federation of Canadian Naturists conducted a national survey nine years ago, and this is what was found:
8.9% of Canadian households or approximately 2.7 million Canadians have the naturist/nudist mindset (have gone or would go to a nude beach and/or club/resort).
A further 11.6% of Canadian households or 3.5 million Canadians have naturist/nudist tendencies, since they have gone or would go skinny-dipping in mixed company. That means a total of 20.5% of households or 6.1 million Canadians have some interest in naturism.
Naturists/nudists tend to have above average incomes.
People who live in urban areas are more likely to be naturists.
People who are under 54 years of age are more likely to be naturists.
People under 25 years of age are the most likely to engage in one of the activities (visiting a naturist club/resort, visiting a nude beach, skinny-dipping, walking around the house nude, or sleeping nude).
39% of Canadian households or 11.8 million Canadians have walked or would walk around their house nude.
People in British Columbia are much more likely than in any other province to walk around their house nude.
59% of Canadian households or 17.9 million Canadians have slept or would sleep nude.
People in Alberta and British Columbia are more likely to sleep nude than in any other province.
The more people in the household, the greater the chance that people sleep nude.
Singles are more likely to sleep nude than married couples.

Canada seems to me to be more open minded about things than the US.

It's hard to say what the percentages are here, but I would tend to think there are more people who practice home nudity than what is reported (surveyed). I know several people who practice home nudity, but are not nudists, at least that is what my perception is. As far as sleeping in the nude, I imagine the numbers would be surprisingly high. Just my opinion.:smoking:

Thanks for sharing those statistics, journeyman. I've always had the impression that Canadians were more liberal and open-minded than the U.S. I was quite surprised that more than 50% of Canadians sleep or have slept in the nude. Good stuff.....

i believe the u.s would rank pretty low. a lot of people say they are nudist but only when their environment calls for it such as resorts/lodges/group settings. sometimes i wonder myself.

Journeyman:
You've given us a fascinating set of statistics about Canadian Naturists and nudists. Thanks for enlightening us.
I've lived in both Germany and Canada for extended periods of time, and while I'm an American through and through and don't plan to make a change, I've always thought Canadians were more progressive than Americans. And sure enough, they seem to be more easy-going about getting naked, too. Great.
Now if we can just help make the atmosphere for naked folk that open down here as well.
