Dropping inhibitions, and towel, at nude beach
(http://www.philly.com/philly/travel/20081102_Personal_Journey__Dropping_inhibitions__a nd_towel__at_nude_beach.html)

It seems like we're getting more and more articles like this. Maybe things are starting to change for the better.

I'd say it's an OK article...at least it's overall positive. It needs three things IMHO.

1. His motives for going to a nude resort would be more believable to the curious public readers of his newspaper if he was with his wife or girlfriend. I know, I know...that's not how it *should* be but that's how the non-nudist-but-curious view us.

2. He managed to critique the way everyone else looks as well as to compliment himself on his age, looks and fitness. The article desperately needs some sort of denouement where the writer realizes that it's how you enjoy what you're doing and feel about yourself and your partner that matters...and it's the only thing that matters...and that the nudist world recognizes this unlike he did on his first day.

3. He should have ended the article with at least a little bit of applause for the resort or for nudism. He wants us to assume that because he went back to the beach and ordered stronger alcohol that he enjoyed the experience. That doesn't necessarily follow and shy or scared readers will see that.

The writer gets a B-....maybe a C+...IMHO.

The article reflects the writer's youth and inexperience, but all in all it's positive. It ends well. He doesn't really say why he wanted more of the same experience, but the fact that he did speaks for itself.

Good for him for trying it. Note that at age 26 he had never experienced skinnydipping, so this was a big step for him. Lots of us older guys can't imagine how someone could get to be 26 without some nude experience, but that's another subject.

I thought it was a very well written article explaining his 'first encounter' experience. By the way he ended the article, sounds like he was comfortable being nude. I thought the article was positive and he expressed himself as interested in giving it a try.:smoking:

I think some of the comments addressed here stem from 2 issues:

1. The writer is clearly not an seasoned nudist. He experienced barely social nudity once. For this reason, I wouldn't expect him to fully meet all of the philosophical and natural banter that we "experienced" nudists desire out of an article.

2. The writer may not be a journalist by trade. We all feel compelled to write sometimes. Sometimes we are knowledgeable enough about our subject to put a really well crafted piece together. Journalists thrive on being able to do that without being an expert on their topic.

The article was great. He didn't try to push anything on anybody. He basically said "I'm curious. I tried it. I liked it." I'd kill to hear any of my friends or family talk about social nudity that way.

I see the article as a positive in that it 1) A man who has no public nude experience goes to a beach, does the research and goes through with it. 2) Lives to tell about it, writing this article sharing his experiences. 3) Discusses the difference between CO and nudity required. 4) You get the feeling that he enjoyed it. 5) Expresses that there is no shame.

Sure it's not expertly written from a Naturist perspective but if if seen by non-Naturists it can open some eyes (no pun intended) to the joys of the lifestyle.

I think it's a nicely written up story and very much reflects my own experiences at a similar age when visiting a nudist beach in the south of France for the first time quite a few years ago now. The difference was that I wanted to go nude but really wasn't sure that I could until I saw other people doing the same. Having done that, I remember the joy in being able to leave my things on the beautiful white sandy beach and walk for miles along it (and pray that my belongings were still there when I got back!) What it did for my fair skin is of course another story!

He forgot one very essential thing, certainly in mexico me thinks: "the suncream"!

Besides that - his cause of reason is "I wanted to see women's bodies" He must have got disappointed because only 40% of all people was in some state of undress, the poor guy thought speedo's were offensive (clearly never been to europe), and those ppl that were fully nude were essentially middle-aged men (btw: how typical though, eheh).

The positive thing is that he took it all with an open mind, the negative thing is that he was more occupied with perky breasts and alcohol than suncream. And in the end, not the place that would rank anywhere near the top of places that we would like to visit....

I only wish He had named the C/O resort he stayed at. The only one I know of in that area is HIdden Beach. And I'm positive that wansn't where he was.

Otherwise, it was a pretty good article considering who wrote it.

I think that the article was excellent. Many of us can think back to the first time we "tried nudity" on for size. Remember how you thought that everyone was going to stare and laugh and how exciting it all was. the new sensations on your nude body, the feeling of freedom, the feeling that everyone was staring at you... Now it all seems so natural and we often have trouble understanding why others find it "offensive" or "strange" that we are comfortable being nude. This article brought back memories of a young 12 year old boy walking around for nude for hours in the feilds and woods of my childhood while carrying his shorts in his hand in fear that he would be "caught".

My guess is that the resort he wrote about was Cabanas Copbal. I would like to visit the resort there sometime with the wife and children. From what I read on their website, it is very rustic, but would be very relaxing - no TV, phone, Internet, electricity, traffic noise, etc. I can relate to his experience.
