Yes I know everyone is doing naked calenders these days, but THIS (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7752852.stm) news report from the BBC is interesting because it doesn't set out to use the 'shock horror naked people' style of reporting. I feel that reports like this put nudity in a good light and help to make it fun and more acceptable.

Here in the UK we have nude events at quite a few interesting places, and we're always on the look out for more, so to this end I've just written to Dudley Zoo to ask if they would consider a naked day at the zoo.

That's neat but it's a shame they feel the need to strategically cover their privates. Why? Dunno. Perhaps because they're doing it to raise funds for the zoo and not as a nudism promotion piece. The idea is to draw attention (and funds), not controversy.

I think it's a neat concept where nude animals are being kept by nude people. :D

Because the report was broadcast on regional BBC TV, got to watch the standards, the BBC is in enough trouble as it is!

The whole point is that these people aren't nudists, but they felt comfortable enough to walk around the zoo naked, and I'm wondering if any of them enjoyed the experience of clothes freedom enough to want to join our happy band.

Anyway, I've e-mailed the zoo to see if they will consider a clothing optional, or nude day, I'll be back with their response.

My question was somewhat rhetorical. I say somewhat because in this day and age is it really that big a deal, even to non-naturists? I hope I didn't put a monkey wrench in things. I got the impression that the calendar was done that way and not just the b.b.c. broadcast and that's a bit of a shame.

There are a number of things to bear in mind with a nude calender:

Full frontal would limit the number of buyers.
Full frontal would attract the wrong buyers.
Would you want to be seen full frontal by all the weirdo's and perv's?
This calender isn't a naturist calender, and those on it aren't naturists.

We all know that some people would classify a full frontal nude photo as porn,so why allow a charity fund raising calender to fall into that trap?

I just thought that it was great that non-naturists could be relaxed enough to participate in a tasteful news report, it shows that nudity is nothing to be ashamed of.

Maybe I'm different than most but I wouldn't classify it as porn unless there were sex acts or they girls were showing pink. I do get what you're saying though Pete.

There are plenty of weirdo's out there who would get sexual gratification from simple nudity.
I attend naturist events to distribute naturist travel brochures, they can be sent for by mail, but the company makes a charge for post to deter the dirty old men and teenagers with rampant hormones.

If only everyone were like you and I.

the ad plays, but then goes blank. i have tried it 3 times now. even clicked on the screen and it only enlarged the window and started playing the diamond ad again:confused:

I think it's because you're a foreigner, I have heard that you foreigners have trouble seeing content designed for the UK consumption, but I believe there is a way round it.
To the left of the page there is a choice of locations, this may make a difference, see below.

Thank you for considering Dudley Zoological Gardens as a venue for a ‘Naked Day’. Dudley Zoological Gardens is open to the general public everyday of the year except for Christmas Day. Therefore, we cannot allocate a day exclusively for your naked day. We cannot run a naked day when we are open to the public as it is a family attraction and obviously this would be inappropriate.

I have to leap to the defence of the BBC here, they may have their problemds with political allegiance, but they have never shied away from showing the reality of the situation. What you have to consider is that this was a news report that went out on regional news before the watershed (9pm in the UK.), after which we see full frontal nudity in many situations that can justify it as part of the progreamme.

I myself have appeared naked in a BBC programme, although careful editing prevented shots of genitalia, there were twelve of us naked in a room for an evening with Dr Alice Roberts. The programme went out on prime time TV, and to stay within the guidelines it required some discretion.

Say what you like about the BBC, it is impartial in all but its political slant.

What gets overlooked is that in the US the majority of households have cable or satellite TV who's content is not regulated by our authorities. If you are willing to pay the extra charges you can even have hard core porn. Ordinary "R" rated fare is common even on the basic channels - although full frontal nudity is still self-censored from most non premium channels.

So no matter how "horrible" and "harmful" nudity might be on broadcast television, almost no one objects to it as long as you pay extra for it - there is no serious movement to censor or shut down premium cable.

Back in 2007 they tried to put more regulations in place using the so called 70/70 provision of a 1984 cable bill. The bill stated that if cable companies ever were available to over 70% of US households and 70% of those households actually subscribed to cable the FCC could step in and make more regulations. No one doubts that the first threshold has been reached but as for the subscription level people ballpark that anywhere between 55% and 71%. The point is that the FCC didn't vote it down because they think that more regulation of cable TV is a bad idea, they did it because they aren't clear if subscriptions are actually above 70%. That means that they will try again at some time in the future.

It is my understanding that here in Illinois some persons who objected to nudity and/or pornograpy asked the court to issue an order to stop the cable company from broadcasting it.

Then a survey was taken and it was found that customers of cable TV wanted to keep their channels with these programs on it, so the court let "prevailing community standards" rule, and it was not curtailed. Therefore I can view any stuff, movies etc., I care to on the "premium channels" of my TV, even if it is pornographic.
