Our man, Malcolm Boura, mentioned in the article is a one man equivalent of NAC, he said the Telegraph article mis-quoted him, not sure in what respect though.
The strange thing is the nudist designation has no legal foundation as nudity per se is not illegal in the UK, it just means that the police don't harrass us on designated beaches, but they often don't do anything about the perverts either, they seem to think that sexual activity is something to do with naturism.

Word is that the council are just paying lip service to the consultation, they have no intention of consulting anyone, which is why they didn't announce the plan to close the nudist beach, one of our members found out.
In the original article, the one eventually syndicated around the world, our man Malcolm Boura was misquoted about the legal action, there has been a lot of fire fighting in radio interviews ever since.

This is a different beach, it is in fact Studland, one of the best, if not THE best naturist beach in the UK. It is in fact on the south coast near Poole, whereas Corton is on the east coast near Southwold.
Good story though.
I was there in 2008 for the BN beach day and I expect the be there again in 2009.

I am genuinely sorry that Studland is being threatened in the way that it is by coastal erosion. This beach has been used by naturists for many years and I know that it is much loved by its many regular naturist visitors.
The owners of the beach, the National Trust, are in an impossible position because the only way they could slow down the erosion (temporarily) would be to build defences that would damage the environment of a number of protected wildlife species. And they know that it would be very expensive and would only delay the inevitable.
I hope that, whatever happens, naturists don't lose out from this.

The Waveney District Council web site for the public consultation can be found HERE (http://www.waveney.gov.uk/Consultations/corton_naturist_beach_consultation.htm) where you'll find a link to the online form to place a vote, should you wish (I think I know how Stu is going to vote.).

Sad, according to one of the users quoted he believes that this was just means to shut down this long standing nude beach. I don't know if he is right but it dosen't sound good.

What an excellent result! :cheering:
You lost an old, shrinking beach, and you got one with better facilities and access. This shows how a spirit of compromise and co-operation can bring real benefits to nudists.
Good stuff!!!

I'm glad that the local government is working with British Naturism to find a new location. That kind of thing has yet to happen here in America. Here when a beach is closed that's the end of it and the naturist are out of luck. The one thing that makes me wonder is what role the local community will play. Hopefully a majority of them will be cool with it.

I'm probably one of the few posters here who's ever been to Corton Beach. It was horrible, and the erosion must have made it even worse. I can't see many people being deeply upset over its passing.
As for Southwold becoming an alternative nude beach location - dream on! Southwold is a favoured resort for genteel "middle Britain" families, and is unlikely to agree to a nude beach.
There's miles of relatively deserted beaches a few miles north of Corton, which could easily be designated for nude use. Indeed, lots of naturists use these already. Places like Horsey and Sea Palling spring to mind. I remember my wife and I went nude bathing there over 30 years ago (when the sea temperature seemed to have less effect!)
