Here's an excellent video that really captures the nudist ideals, and is a great peek into the nudist lifestyle by anyone who is curious. It's a 2 part video, online here (http://mosfa.no-ip.org/blog/?p=308) and here (http://nakednudenekkid.blogspot.com/2008/12/carina-day-in-life-of-naturist.html) (take your pick), which is a documentary about a young woman living at a naturist village in Brazil. Be prepared to read, since it's not in English.

The video seems honest in its portrayal of the naturist lifestyle as it is practiced at Colina do Sol. It does not go in to any depth regarding the communities founding, its members or the rate of growth, but I enjoyed it. If there were more videos of this simple type, perhaps they would become a useful marketing tool because one would corroberate the facts we all know about nudist living.
As an example of sustainable living and being in harmony with the surroundings, this video footage seems to make a case for being able to accomplish that.
No evidence is giving to support how the videos principal character, a young student named Carina, manages financially (e.g. student loans, inheritence, part-time job, etc.).

Oh the innocence of youth. This was a feel good video. That life should be that simple and easy for all of us, but it certainly put on a positive face for
naturism.

Sent to me:
Centauri,
It may "sound honest", but for a rather more critical look at Colina do Sol, read this:
www.msri.org/~levy/Kafka
- Caipora
And after a quick read through of the English version; my response:
One summary of the events does NOT "make" or "break" a case against these four defendents in my opinion. Furthermore, I cannot comment on the situation without reading more such as the complaints, police reports and other "witness" testimony (if it exists).
I think there must have been some disagreement between the defendants and the other residents of the Colina do Sol community, and as in all human affairs when "push comes to shove" things often get muddled, confused and messy. This has been demonstrated again and again in America with numerous divorce cases involving child custody, and the one aspect I suspect relates to the Colina situation is "he said, she said" (varying accounts that ARE difficult to interpret).
Does this make the residents of Colina guilty of conspiracy? I doubt it.
Does this mean the four accused persons are really "innocent"? I doubt it.
Would the case be handled differently in the American judicial system? Hopefully.
Anytime you have a cooperative living arrangment whether it is an "extended or blended family" or a "Commune" of this type, there will ALWAYS be the unusual cases of behaviors NOT covered by the Rules of the Community (sometimes called the "Bylaws") that have been adopted to cover "life and living within the community".
Some might argue that IF the living situation for these four people became "unworkable" then they should have simply put their "home" in the community up for sale and left. However, I realize this is often impossible and MAYBE the four accused wanted to remain and defend their "right" to behave as they wished and continue participating in the Colina lifestyle. At this point the situation is at a "stalemate", or in old American West terms, "a draw" (or "standoff"); with both sides presenting equally valid agruments in their defense and feeling as though they are within their "rights" to demand the other "quit".
If the bylaws of the community were clearly being violated then BOTH parties should have agreed to some type of unbiased moderation by a disinterested third party. However, this is how things (sometimes) operate in the United States and may not be the case in Brazil.
If the Colina do Sol community substantially contributes to the local economy through taxes, construction spending, retail purchases or in other means, then they WILL be likely granted some preferrential treatment by the local authorities. Businesses, and Colina seems to fit that description at least in part, often get "special consideration" when it is in the overall interest of the community to have them "open up shop" or continue operating in a community. Look at America for an example of the U.S. government giving "special consideration" to these financial institutions with our multi-billion dollar "Bailout" package! The people running these operations into the ground are practically white-collar criminals and they CONTINUE to hold seats on Boards of Directors and high-paying positions within the institutions they "ruined"!
The situation between four people and AN ENTIRE community of hard-working (or dedicated; whichever is more accurate) nudists WILL eventually get worked out. Some reputations may get "dragged through the mud" but hopefully in the end a clear picture of what really happened will emerge and the FOUR will either be vindicated or condemned and further written about. It is almost a guaranteed conclusion to the story.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will need to read more and see if I can find out a few of the details.

Too bad we don't have such options in this country. I'm not sure why every nudist environment in America must be a "resort," or even a "luxury resort," as if nudity can be be experienced only as a weekend vacation. I'd like to see some of the struggling "resorts" transform themselves into permanant communities, perhaps with specific purposes or missions. I've only ever visited decades-old clubs that are in the backwoods of nowhere, and they will never thrive as vacation destinations. They have always been deserted, with the exception of a couple of locals and the owner. We still have these countless nudist properties that evolved from the days of communes and colonies, but there's a stigma surrounding the idea of permamnent nude communities. Good luck to you if you even dare to utter the word "colony." There really are no cooperative living options for the nudists in America. It seems like it could be an option for those old "colonies" that are struggling to survive in the modern world.

Several resorts here in Florida and one that I know of in GA have been building condos and town homes. Caliente, Paradise Valley and Paradise Lakes come to mind.

Yeah, but they're still "resorts," essentially the nude equivalent of retirement communities built around golf courses. I'm talking a true community, where people of all ages and income levels are asked to contribute their specific talents and skills to keep the community operating. The exisiting condo developments in nudist clubs are priced beyond the reach of many of us, and are generally no more enriching than the vinyl-sided urban sprawl that most of us are already suffocating in.

Hello - I am a new member to CFI, and this is my first post. I found this two part documentary fascinating and a very positive example of what naturism is. It would be nice if everyone in the world could see a video such as this one to see that naturism is something to be embraced rather than to not see it and consider the naturist lifestyle as being perverse or taboo.
