January 3, 2009 (Columbia, SC ) The 2009 East Coast Nude Chili Cookoff. Will be held at Cedar Creek Family Nudist Park, 30 miles west of Columbia, SC in the Leesville-Batesburg/Pelion area on Saturday, January 10th at 2:30 pm. The park has an indoor pool, an indoor hot tub, and a lovely, spacious clubhouse.
The entry fee is $3 per pot plus Cedar Creek’s daily grounds fees. Competitors are asked to arrive by 2:30, judging begins at 5pm. Those who are not competing are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.
After the judging, everyone is invited to enjoy the various concoctions. The first and last names of the competitors are needed as well as the affiliated club, if any, no later than January 6th. There are prizes awarded as well as certificates.
The story behind the cookoff:
In the early 1990s, several online friends from Pennsylvania, Virginia, North and South Carolina had a debate as to who made the best chili. The East Coast Nude Chili Cookoff was born as a friendly competition between those friends. It was held that first year at White Tail Park in Ivor, Virginia. The following year, it was held at Serendipity in Cleveland, GA, and at Whispering Pines in Ocean Isle Beach the following, which turned out to be the last year.
Three years ago, the fun and competition was resurrected. Cedar Creek has graciously agreed to again host it this year.
