Greetings to you all,
There have been quite a few postings about sleeping naked. I have tried it and it feels VERY good not to have the restrictions of any clothing. However, I cannot seem to get a really good night's sleep because I seem to feel extremely self conscious about sleeping that way.
Does anyone have any comments about this? Has anyone else had these experiences? Does the self consciousnes go away?
Thank you.

Eventually, the self-consiuousness goes away. About the time you stop caring if anyone sees you unclothed. You just stop caring what other people think. I believe it is a healthy way to think all the way around.

Unless there's someone in the house or bed with you, what's to be self-conscious about? Any self-conscious issues you may have will pass as your comfort level with the situation improves. You'll be sleeping like a baby in no time.

I've been sleeping nude for more than 25 years, and I don't recall being self-conscious about it.

I agree with the others; when you get used to sleeping naked, the "self conscious" feelings will go away.
Rather than "self conscious," perhaps you mean "sensual feelings," rather than sexual feelings? And, maybe you feel it's wrong to feel that way?
I've been sleeping nude for over 30 years, and in the beginning, I remember the awareness of being naked under the covers. And yes, it was sensual.
Now, I FORGET that I'm naked! I just know that I am completely comfortable.
It's similar to getting used to going naked in any context, alone or socially. We're taught to associate nudity with sexual feelings. After a while, nudity just feels natural, and the "self conscious" feelings evaporate.

If you feel self concious being nude alone in bed, then you have a lot of body shame to deal with.
Learning to sleep nude could a good step in overcoming that.

I slept naked for many years and when we were first married my wife slept naked as well (althought invariably in winter she would be too cold).
I only began sleeping with pajamas after having kids and having them routinely climb into bed with us in the morning. I know there is nothing wrong with having them see their parents naked (and we are quite casual about nudity etc since we all share a bathroom and have to get several showers done in rapid succession each day). Nevertheless, I preferred to wear pajamas with the kids coming in and out.
Perhaps as the kids get older,, I will revert back to my prior habits.

Surely its the only way to sleep.I have slept naked all my life, only once has it been a problem, and that was when I was staying in a hotel which caught fire in the night and I had to escape nude down the firemans ladder.

I enjoy sleeping naked and it is also good because I experienced it when I no longer get colds and I sleep so much better. I am trying my wife to sleep naked as well but she also thinks of the times if it ever happens we may need to leave and no clothes on and she likes her pj's and keeps warm that way especially now in winter. She allows me to be naked as much as I want to and puts up with my snoring and that tends to quiet down after I am in a deep la la state of mind. So have a nice time sleeping naked and only time will make you continue doing so.

First of all, if your wife keeps a robe on top of the covers, in an emergency, she is covered.
Second, I used to snore. I lost a lot of weight and my wife said the snoring stopped.

Thanks Walter05 for your advise and during the winter I will try to do both, have my wife sleep naked and for me to lose some weight at the same time to ease my snoring, does not bother me, I am in la la land of dreams but my wife sure hears me. heee heee. So take care and keep in touch

at first you will probably feel a little self conscious but it usually goes away when you stop caring. I started like a couple of months ago to sleep nude at first I use to care what if I got caught or something because that's what society teaches us that being nude is wrong or sexual but take my advice when you stop caring if anybody sees you in you're birthday suit you will sleep sound and well good luck keep sleeping nude and after a wile you won't even care good luck

At first, I felt self concious about sleeping nude, but now I dont even think about it.

I was definitely a little self-conscious when I started sleeping nude. For me I wouldn't say it was sensual, or even sexual, although it was around the time I started puberty. My main problem was that I was afraid my parents would catch me that way, considering they had strict christian values. But even that died out after a few months and I eventually got so used to it that I just couldn't fall asleep with anything on. In fact, now, if I do go to sleep with any clothes on, I wake up and I've taken them off in my sleep.
I think the problem you're having is that you've started sleeping nude so late in your life, you have that many more years of "conditioning" to get over. Just ignore the self-consciousness and enjoy the feeling of freedom under the covers. It may take a few months, but eventually you'll get over it and will find that one day, you won't be able to sleep a full night with anything on.

Living in Milwaukee now, I have leaned to keep the bed warmer.
I put the usual sheets on the bed.
I but a standard blanket on.
Then I put one on with the length of it along the bottom of the bed. I tuck in part of it all along the bottom just like a normal blanket. The rest pulled up and over. (This helps keep the feet warm without socks.)
Then I put a thicker blanket on the top that often comes off during the night.
It is often cold enough to wear long underwear during the day. I put standard boxerx on underneath to prevent unwanted stimulation. By night, there is unwanted sweat around my tender parts.
I particularly appreciate sleeping nude so that all of me can breath.
In this configuration, even at -7 F with a wind chill of -30 F, I can be naked, free, and warm.

Hell, I feel more self-conciouss now when I have to go sleep somewhere where i have to wear pajamas! i've been sleeping naked longer than i've been into naturism--probably since I was 16 or so---you lose any self-conciousness pretty fast when you feel the comfort.

I heartily agree with you about feeling uncomfortable knowing PJs are necessary when in homes where it is not in practice. When I was 18 I stayed over at my older cousins house for about a month before going in the Army and every night I would see him wandering around the house in the nude and he had a house full of children that had to see him occasionally. I thought wow! I started the practice and have always loved the freedom of sleeping nude. I learned of nudism while on active duty in Germany and have been advocate ever since.

Maybe getting a higher count thread sheet that you can just cuddle into might the an answer. It's such a comforting feeling snuggling into my bed, nude or not, although I generally am nude.

I used to have one of those "Vellux" blankets that I would sleep on. That is definitely THE most comfortable thing I've ever had underneath me in my life, while sleeping. It's one of those fake velvet blankets, probably made of polyester. They're nice and comfy warm too, so you won't need as many blankets one top. They're basically waterproof, so body oils won't ruin it, and the one I had was washing machine safe. Lasted me for 3 years with regular use before it started coming apart.

When I first started sleeping naked it was the same. But after a short time it has been the only way I can sleep. And I could never go back. Even when it's cold I still sleep nude, I just add more blankets.

Always!
Even in hotel rooms in strange cities - only once have I had to grab a towel and get out when the fire-alarms sounded in the middle of the night.
That reminds me - 11:30 pm - time to strip off and hit hay!
Goodnight all.

Started sleeping nude on a regular basis when in college and that was over 45 years ago. Have slept naked at the homes of friends and relatives over that period of time even on the sofa or floor under at least a sheet but always have a cover within arm reach for when it is neccessary to get up. Love sleeping natural when tent camping (nature with nature) but always have that cover ready if needed. Best part is being able to slip out of the tent in the middle of the night should there be a nature call. Have to be a little more careful when group camping but have been awakend in the middle of deep sleep for emergencies in the camp site.

I may have said this in another post somewhere but I think at some point all of us have slept nude. Are conceived with clothing or something covering us in our Mothers? No. I would say that there is a 100% chance we slept nude before. If any of you are married or have slept with someone, you probably sleep nude afterward. If you have the right covering in the Winter time or don't bother with covers during the summer, you actually go to sleep quicker when you're not constricted by clothes. Skin is an amazing sensory organ, it's just sad that people years ago made it taboo to rely on something so natural.

Some stores have "furry" type blankets. They are soft and feel great on bare skin. They are polyester and fairly durable. Even Mrs Tree likes them so they must be pleasant.

We were in a hotel in Vancouver when there was a middle of the night fire alarm. It turned out to be false, so we did not have to leave the room. I will still continue to sleep naked. I will just make sure I have a robe or clothes that are easy to put on nearby. I mean, how long does it really take to get dressed in the middle of the night if everything is ready.

A few nights ago the temperture dropped into the negative teens (rare for my area). I normally sleep in the nude but this particular night I left my briefs on. I was reasonably comfortable and I seemed to sleep well. A couple of hours later I awoke to my cell phone beeping (low battery) so I got up to take care of it. Before returning to bed I decided to strip off the briefs and sleep nude the remainder of the night. By the time I fell back asleep I found myself feeling much warmer than I had when I was wearing underwear.
Even on the coldest nights, I sleep nude under a flannel sheet and a comforter and I'm quite comfortable.

I've slept nude since I was a teenager.. that over 50 years now... except for the years in the navy, I at least slept in my briefs. I'm actually uncomfortable and don't sleep well in clothes. This past week it's been 8 and 9 degress at night, just add a blanket and relax and sleep.

I only sleep in the nude. I hate the feeling of clothes on me when I am sleeping since clothes have a tendency to snag or restrict movement. The only time that my sleeping in the nude became a problem was when I playing at a chess tournament up north. A friend of mine was going to be playing at the same tournament and I was planning to get a separate room at the hotel where the tournament was being held. My friend said that it would be cheaper if we just shared a room and paid half of the cost each.
He is not aware that I am a nudist since that is not a topic of conversation at the chess board so I told him that the reason that I was going to get a separate room was the fact that I slept in the nude. He seemed to pause to grasp what I just told him and then asked if I was going to get undressed in front of him when I went to sleep. I told him that I would just get under the covers and remove my clothes so that he would not see anything that he obviously did not wish to see.
He said as long as I did that, then my sleeping in the nude was ok with him.

Jose;
You may be more considerate than me.
When I have a room mate like that, I think it is rude to change in the bath room. After all if he needs the toilet, shower, or sink, I am keeping them unavailable.
I just strip naked and walk to and from the bath room.
When it is bed time, I just go to bed naked if I want.

The last week or so, it has been so hot in the house at night, that I decided to sleep on my upstairs backporch in a sleeping bag. I never made the whole night, though. One night, a car in the alley woke me up, another night thunder, and a third night was a rain downpour. Each night, dragging my sleeping bag in the house, I realized I was bare-assed naked for everyone to see. If anyone noticed, they sure didn't mind enough to comment. :surprised:
Actually, a great idea.

My wife and I have been 19 years... before we were married, it was a game to get in bed and remove our underwear... the game continued for several years...then we just started getting in bed nude... we both consider it the best part of the day... we always go to bed at the same time every night and always NUDE... even naps during the day have to be nude. Such freedom, and I would rather feel her soft sensual sking vs some fabric made in China.;)

Been sleeping nude for years. Have not owned a pair of pajamas for years. Have one night shirt left in my closet. It is short and thread bare, so bare it is practically transparent. It was the last night shirt I slept in and I just keep it in case I ever have to wear something to bed.....yeah right -- LOL! I put it on as an attempt to be sexy for my wife.....I wear it very briefly on those times.

I have been sleeping nude most of the summer now. I had done it on and off at times in years past, but just decided I like sleeping nude and to give it a full time try. My wife did notice, but hasn't joined me. On some occassions she will sleep nude with me and it is great. In fact, I have tried spending as much time this summer nude as possible and would like to even expand it. Even when I wear clothes, a lot of times I will go commando underneath to get even a slight feeling of being clothes free. The less clothes the better.

I didn't take the time to read every post so....if I'm repeating anyone else's...I apologize.
Yes, you will get over the self consciousness of sleeping nude and once you get used to it....you'll not be able to sleep with clothes on again.
My SIL asked our daughter about us sleeping nude once, while we were spending the night at their home. He may have seen either of us get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or saw us in the morning getting out of bed. Either way...he asked our daughter about it and she told him we'd been sleeping that way since we got married.
He asked us some questions about it and after hearing those answers....he decided to take the plunge and slept nude one night. He TOO didn't get much sleep and said the same things you did. I told him to do it for a week straight. At the end of the week....actually it was two weeks before we saw him again, he said..."I've been doing it since we talked and don't think I'll ever wear Pj's to bed again! Still sleeps nude to this day and that was about 7-8 years ago.
Give it time and you'll never go back to sleeping with clothes on again. I can't sleep with anything on.

I agree with Dee. I have been a fan of flannel sheets for some time now. Strange as it may sound, they are not warmer in the winter nor too hot in the summer. The main thing I notice is you never have to get in bed between cold sheets. The flannel sheets are neutral. Nice.

I've been sleeping nude since before we were married (33+ years ago). When in HS and college I would sleep nude when I had the house to myself or my roommate was gone. Can't get to sleep as easily when I am "forced" to wear even minimal coverage at bedtime. Wife is hesitant to sleep nude, but has tried a time or two, she says she is too uncomfortable. Need to encourage her a bit more - patience, patience, patience - as said earlier, it's been 33+ years.

I always sleep nude even in the winter. Put on some extra blankets and you're good to go. Sometimes I will put on socks because my feet get cold. My wife thinks thats funny but my toes don't!

Is there some other way to sleep?
Is that like wearing clothes to swim? (Seems I heard of that somewhere...)
Like the guy said, after a while you don't notice you're naked, just comfortable.

Thank you.

I was 15 when I started to sleep naked. I was paranoid at first. I locked my bedroom door at night so nobody would come in. After a while I got use to it. By the time I was 19 in living with roommates during college, sleeping naked was nothing. I would sleep with the door wide open and walk to the bathroom without any clothes on.

I always sleep naked but wife has nightie on as she doesnt want our child coming in whilst naked. I always keep a pair of boxers next to bed for occasion this happends but wife says too risky. Perhaps this is probably our child is a boy and not a girl and Id probably be the one not naked.
Any comments for other one child parents whos only child is a girl. Do you still sleep naked ??

I've slept nude for about 6 years, but this last week was the first time Mrs did for multiple and full nights in a row. I hope that continues and she said she would even try nude nights at home, a major accomplishnment to hear that.

Sleeping naked? Who doesn't? We get up naked and eat breakfast naked, too! And by the way, if guests are visiting our Florida home, they are told in advance they will have to adjust or go to a hotel. It's our home, after all.
Short answer: my wife and I have slept in the nude ever since our honeymoon 43 years ago. I can't imagine sleeping any other way.

If you feel self concious being nude alone in bed, then you have a lot of body shame to deal with.
Learning to sleep nude could a good step in overcoming that.

Doesn't bother me, and I've slept nude for years!!!:D
