View Full Version : What do you do at a resort?

Out of the 5 resorts I've been to in 4 different states, everyone seems to do the same thing:

Sit in the pool and drink

I did get to play volleyball at one place which was fun, and of course I always walk any trails I can, but I'm always the only person walking.

I'm 25 so I'm in the younger crowd and generally feel out of place at a resort/camp (whatever you want to call them) because I know some people think I want to do too many activities.

Why not have a Wii, or Guitar Hero or basketball or something going on at these places? I saw one place had a pool table but it looked like it had been ages since it had been used.

What i do at a resort

No drinking - I'm a non drinker. It doesn't bother me to be around drinkers.

Walking - hiking (can't do that these days, until I heal more), and riding around the grounds in a cart or on a bike and stopping to visit with people.

swimming

sunning

Kayaking and canoeing (at places with a lake)

reading a book

sitting around a fire and talking

playing table tennis (ping pong)

and spending time doing any of the above and lots of other things with old and new friends.

In other words - ordinary leisure activities.

So what do young people like to do? THOSE are the things they should want to do at a nudist resort. Within reason of course.

Well, what we do here at our resort (Cypress Cove in Kissimmee, FL, where we live full-time), is:

Swimming, sunning, loafing poolside
Hot tubbing
Play Pickleball
Play tennis
Play petanque
Play table tennis
Play cards
Socialize & make new friends
Play shuffleboard
Play volleyball
Ride our bikes
Ride our golf cart
Walk around the neighborhood
Eat, drink, dance & party at our two restaurants & lounges
Cut the grass
Do landscape work
Maintain the house
Wash the cars
Visit our friends and neighbors
Play Bingo
Play cribbage
Play euchre
Participate in the Mac club, the wine club, the camera club, the R/C yacht club, or any of a dozen other clubs here at the Cove
Live...laugh...love...enjoy the nude life...

In other words, we do everything (and a whole lot MORE) here, nude, that anyone living in a normal suburban American community would do.

Later,

Mike

Good point it depends on the club the day you are there who else is there weather and lots of other factors.

I like to walk so I will ask about trails to hike. If there is a active group playing a game like (gasp) volleyball I may join in. I have been to some clubs where the devotees of this sport were semi religious in their zeal for it. I may play some other game like frisbee or ping pong tennis. Though at different clubs I have been too it can be hard to find anyone interested in this others you have to wait your turn to get on the court. I've also played horseshoes and basketball, football biked of course swimming lots of time in the pool water volleyball that was always fun. I've also had fun playing board games that was even a bit of an ice breaker one time began playing a game with my wife and kid and had a few walking by ask to join in.

One thing I would suggest find out ahead of time what events they are going to have in the near future. Going on the day of an event will likely increase the odds of finding someone else who is into doing things like this.

I would definitely swim, just to feel the exhilaration of the air hitting my skin after a long swim. Maybe to help dry off, I'd take a nice long hike.

Not much:

Lying on the beach and reading
Sitting on a chair on my balcony and reading
Walking around if the resort is large enough

My thing to do at a resort is just relax on the beach. I also like swimming, playing volleyball, and going for walks. Meals can be fun too because it gives you a chance to get to know the other guests.

I think this is practically most nudists do at a resort as you mentioned unless there is some kind of a special event going on. For the most part, they just,as we say,"chill" and relax with friends and or family. And hanging at the pool seems to be a favorite at most resorts or clubs. I guess there is something about nudists and water that go together!

Hello jozimmer. I understand you what mean about being on of the younger ones at many resorts or clubs. What I mean by that is at a lot of these places, there tend to be a lot of retirees dominatingly. This is not to say that no younger people go to nudist clubs or resorts. But I myself ran into that problem when I was your age and searching for and visiting clubs. I too felt kind of out of place because I was younger that most of the people there except for children.

Yeah, I have played volleyball once, and loved it. Only thing is that it seemed I was way more active in playing than the other "retirees".

One place (Cherokee, when it was nude) had a Wii...but no one played. :( Instead, during a dance, everyone just got drunk.

Another place did a miniature frisbee golf but hardly anyone seemed into it except me and a couple others.

I think it's just a generation gap type of thing. Hell, I even get bored hanging out with co-workers at their place when all they do is sit around and drink.

Ah well....being nude is being nude!

jozimmer, I had a similar problem back when I started visiting resorts 6 years ago. I was still in college at the time and in my early twenties so found it hard to find things in common with most of the resort-goers besides the love of nude recreation. There were a few people I got along with well, though. Try the small talk sometime, or cutting in on card games in the clubhouse. You may be surprised.

I say that, but I took a long break from nude recreation simply because I didn't feel like I fit in; also I had to put my nose to the college graduation grindstone and then secure a steady well-paying job somewhere. I finally gave it another try last summer, flew down to West Palm Beach and spent a few days out at Sunsport Gardens. The first night I was there, tired from the journey, I ended up in their swimming pool, floating on my back, the water like a nice warm blanket. It was a clear night so I felt like I was floating in space, just staring up at the stars. That alone was worth the trip.

I could also make the argument that the vibe at Sunsport was just right for that sort of bliss. In general I don't think people go there to "get their drunk on", for instance. Perhaps, jo, if you ever have the resources, try traveling to another resort.

Some of the most interesting, creative folks I have ever met were at nudist resorts.

It is obvious most nudists are getting long in the tooth but you still see a few active old guys. I once played an interesting game of Jinga. A guy had all these 14 inch sections of 2"X4"s. There must have been over 300 sections and you needed a ladder to finish the game! Man that was the hit of the club that summer. Another time a guy brought this game that had sets of 2 golf balls drilled and tied together on a 1 foot rope different sets were painted different colors red white blue etc. and then 2 sets of targets made of 3/4 icnh PVC pipe in a ladder type arrangement kind of like playing horse shoes. I don't know what it was called but man that was fun we made lots of stupid jokes about getting our balls hung up on the ladders. I guess what I'm saying is if you get creative there's lots of fun stuff you can do and not all of it has to be terribly physical that would encourage more others to join in. Great way to meet others and have a good time.

Owl...it says you live in Nashville. I'm in Franklin so not too far away.

I went to Cherokee in June and did have fun as I got involved in several volleyball games there. That's the most fun I've had...too bad they are closed now for good.

You been to Rock Haven?

I am 32 and my girlfriend is 29. We like to just relax and socialize. At the nude resort in Bonaire, we just laid on the beach all day long. Swam a little and slept. During the evening, we would socialize. We were not into too many activities though.

Now that I think about it, not too many places I been to really cater to the 18 to 25 crowd.

When you visit a resort once or twice you are still trying to figure out what the activities are and if it is a right fit. After you learn about their activities and get to know some folks, you may be able to make some suggestions of things that you would enjoy. I think once you get to know some people at a resort it changes how you feel about the place and you enjoy it more. Hiking, volley ball, tennis are usually standards but there is no reason that air guitar, video games, etc. couldn't become part of the activity schedule too. We need the younger folks to give those suggestions so that we can stay current.

Joz, I TOTALLY understand where you coming from. Your observation is one reason why there is a lack of young adults in naturism.

I myself have been to about 5 resorts since I got into nude recreation. I got into nude recreation when I was 18 and I am now 28. In all the 5 resorts I have been to, I experienced exactly the same thing. Majority of the visitors just laid around the pool, drink and did nothing. The only times they actually moved were to: grab another drink, jump in the pool, or turn over to get the sun in another spot. Utterly boring. My friend and I made opportunities to be active by working out in the nude, playing basket ball, tennis (even though we sucked), and hiking.

What I don't understand is what fun is there in just laying around. Good money is being spent to go to these resorts and the only thing you want to do is park your butt by the pool? You can do that anytime. People are given a chance to have all this free space to be nude and they can do all the things we can't do when home and the best that people come up with is laying by the pool? And one wonders why so many naturist are grossly overweight/obese? During my visit to resorts, I have tried to get some people together for basket ball games or other physical activities but no one was interested.

Your above observation is one reason why I don't particularly identify myself as naturist. In addition, I haven't gone to a resort in over 4 yrs and have decided to experience nude recreation through beaches and other activities like hiking. At least with these activities I can gather a couple of friends to join me.

My only advice is to stick to events or venues where you are likely to meet other like minded people: nude beaches tend to have young people who are open to doing something physical. Also, some areas have naturist activity groups, look into them.

Well I love a resort that just hot and full of people. I have been to 3 all inclusive resorts because I like to just hang around the pool and drink and socialize. Now if I can do that and be nude at the same time, well that would be the bomb. My wife and I goto a local nudist club in Canada but I want to try Hedo 2 from what I hear it is nice. The problem is as soon as you want to take off clothes the cost is doubled.:(

There are times when I want to sit and read or just soak in the pool or hot tub. Then there are times when I really like to sit and talk to others swap stories etc. There are also times when I like to go for hikes or participate in a game of some sort like volleyball.

Many resorts are changing to offer more "activities". However, most people I have talked to -- young and old are not interested in high octane activities at a resort. Clothing optional beaches are different and anyone can get a volleyball game going and what has become become popular again -- Horseshoes on the beach. Plus, at beaches you have the ocean to swim in.

When I was in my 20s and 30s, I preferred the clothing optional beaches. Since my late 40s I prefer going to resorts that offer relaxing venues such as many of you described here. When I work my butt off for 60 to 70 hours a week, maintain a high energy get this or that done after work, working out four or five days a week, I sure do not want to go to a resort and feel like I have to keep the high energy drill going. Six days of this is enough for me! One day of sitting by a pool, drinking, and chilling is refreshing to my schedule and re-energizing.

Now that I am considered a senior citizen, I no longer go to resorts. I prefer to go to clothing optional beaches mainly for the ocean scenery, the sunshine, and the warmth. But, I still lay in my beach chair, my cooler by-my-side, LOL, a good book, and enjoy a few hours of N O T H I N G before going back to the weekly 40 to 50 hour workweek!! This day of NOTHINGNESS keeps me balanced. I do enjoy it! :)

Seems most people do go to a resort to relax and do nothing.

Younger people like to watch movies, tv, play video games, listen to music, aka things that aren't real expensive. Swimming is fine and all, but at the 5 nudist resorts I've been to (and a non-landed club event I went to) swimming wasn't REALLY an option. Everyone was just standing in the pool talking and us trying to swim seemed to peev off the people standing in the pool.

The places I've been are more "rustic" so maybe that's my problem. Maybe I need a bigger place like in FL or CA to visit.

Same here.. when I go in vacation (c/o resort or a "regular" resort), I like to relax and not to much. Socializing with others, drinks all day, and laying on the beach or in the pool is all I want. Working sometimes 60 hours a week, I like to just do nothing!

My girlfriend, she likes to get out and visit the towns, go shopping, etc (clothed of course)... I just give her the credit card and say "Have fun"

I have never been to a nude resort or even a C/O beach. So I'll have to spectulate on what I would do.

1. Soak up some sun

2. Relax in a comfortable eviroment

3. Do some swimming

4. Take a hike.

5. Many other things

2. Reading a book

3. Walking, if the resort is big enough, that is.

I like going to the pool for a bit but spend most my time at my campsite with the radio on low and having a drink. Always seem to have something going on the grill and the laptop
out. I go to Forest Hills in Michigan and it is sooooo peaceful there, it just feels so nice
to sit in the sun naked and soak up the sounds of nature there. It is the most relaxed I
get out of the whole year.

Well, my first objective is to spend as much time as possible in the nude. From the minute I am safely inside the gate up to the time that I must leave for home, I am nude.

Whatever else I am able to do is unfortunately dictated by one issue. I travel to resorts by myself; my wife is not a social nudist. We enjoy time at home or when we are alone at a mountain cabin. But for social nudism, it is a solo activity for me.

Having said that, I usually relax by the pool or take a dip in the hot tub. I will eat at the snack bar or resort restaurant by myself. But over all of this is the sometime unseen, unexpressed, discrimination of being a single male in the nudist environment.

I keep to myself, sit on a lounge chair off to the side by the pool. I read and will take walks. But I am often not engaged in social activities with others. I don't want to make myself obvious and for one very good reason as follows.

I had one unfortunate experience at a very popular resort in FLA one time. It was Luau Weekend at the resort. There was a dinner show on Saturday night and wanting a nice meal, I requested seating for the dinner and show when I had breakfast that morning. I knew that I would be sharing a table and was prepared for that. Unfortunately, my erstwhile table companions were not. I was already seated when the hostess seated a husband and wife at my table and the temperature dropped to near Zero. The husband almost immediately jumped up to find the manager and I watched him over my shoulder as he made a scene about sitting at the table with me. I made an instant decision. I stood, and approached the hostess, who was still trying to placate the gentleman. I told her quietly that I would simply go elsewhere for dinner and just skip the show. I left with as much dignity as I could muster. Not that I think it mattered, but I elected to be nude that night while they were both dressed (there was no clothing rules for the restaurant so my lack of clothing was acceptable).

I went to my room and collected myself and then went to the snackbar for a burger and a beer. The next day, I left as soon as I checked out rather than relax on the grounds as I was entitled to. I found out later that my waitress was the Resort owner's wife; she helps run the restaurant. She discerned what happened and must have told the owner later.

The owner shared this when he responded to an email from me where I outlined the situation and wanted to make sure that this incident would not prevent me from returning to visit later - again this single male paranoia. He assured me that the two grumps were just upset at sharing a table with anyone. I guess I could have been a single female and they may have objected. He told me that his wife proceeded to give them the poorest service that she could after I had left.

So, sometimes what we do at resorts is dictated by the subtle discrimination, sometimes arrogant behavior of other patrons that have nothing to do with nudism. But I err on the side of caution; don't make a spectacle of yourself, blend in, and just enjoy it as much as you can. I am a single male nudist and I don't want to lose any privileges.

Great post you made here jozimmer !

I've never been to any nudist resort yet, and those are questions I was wondering about, which are now partly answered.

Those answers would also be very useful to me to convince my newbie nudist girlfriend to go try out a naturist resort next summer :p

Cindy and I don't mind a quiet resort. We mainly go just to chill, anyway. We both work in noisy, busy jobs and a quiet day sunning, swimming, and visiting with friends fills the relaxation bill nicely. We do get some exercise, though, enjoying a walk on some nature trails or swimming. One of our favorite activities was using the pedal boat at Rock Lodge in New Jersey, just doing laps around their lake and enjoying the day, then sharing a meal with friends afterward.
