This seems like a well written and objective article about the whole controversy of nudism vs swingers and caliente.
I understand their need to reach out to new customers and everything, but I'm troubled by this idea of trying to blend swinging and nudism together. This just feeds into bad public perceptions about what nudism really is about at least for me.

Somebody has to tell the young people that you don't need to become a swinger in order to find a place to go to simply be nude.
And where better to do that than at at gathering of potential swingers and nudists.
When I first started searching for vacation destinations where I could include nudism, about all I could find were "swinger" type resorts. Hedonism and places like that come up on almost every search in the main stream vacation destinations. But you need to narrow your search and be very dilligent to find the "Real Nudist" resorts when you don't know what your looking for.
There's no telling how many people might show up at an event promoting swingers with the hope that maybe they will be able to cut through the swing aspect of the information and find a decent place to just enjoy nudism.

So was TNS. So was (eventually, perhaps too late) AANR.
The problem was, this resort used AANR and TNS connections to get itself off the ground. Then, because there was money to be made in "Lifestyle" activity, Caliente drifted toward that.
AANR bigwigs had been pressured and criticized for allowing Caliente to stay in the fold, in spite of openly advertising and catering to certain groups whose philosophies are in conflict with their policies and standards.
The last straw came last summer when Caliente -
- took out a booth at Swingfest (which may or may not have been withdrawn)
- their publicist, Ms. Fox has a website where she sells paintings that she made by using her breasts as paintbrushes. Her personal website purports to "put the '***' in class", but I digress.
- she was going to give a seminar at the swinger's fest that (reportedly) was about how swingers and nudists can co-exist at nudist parks. This truly ALARMED many, because it would encourage the swinger set to come cruising at their local nudist park, expecting to find what they want. Perhaps they would, anyway, if they look throroughly enough -- but the publicist for an AANR club promoting swinging at other nudist (AANR) clubs -- uh.... NO. That's an atmosphere most clubs do not want, and they certainly do not want such promotion.

Lingerie Bowl To Be Held At Pasco Nudist Resort (http://suncoastpasco.tbo.com/content/2009/jan/16/lingerie-bowl-be-held-pasco-nudist-resort/)
She must have had something to do with this as well. It's sad that they've gone down this path for money. What's worse is that both these things are just reinforce the stereotypes we are fighting against. The actions of Caliente are going to cause all nudists to be roped together because they want to turn a profit.

The Naturist Society no longer lists Caliente or prints its ads. My wife and I stayed at Caliente in the early days. It was obvious that the developers had an enormous investment to recoup; we were told that it was 75 million dollars.

In most Textiles minds Nudist=Swinger. They cannot imagine why you would be nude without the intention of having sex. It's a tough road to change that perception, but I think if more textiles knew more nudists personally they would know more about the practice. However, that would require more people to come out of the nudist closet and practice openly.

Sadly -- this is going to get too much publicity. The Super Bowl is being held in Tampa the next day. This will likely be a beer-swillin' event for a lot of football fans heading to the area for the weekend.
