what is the deal with key west. Is nudity accepted all the time or just during fantasy fest?
What about the beaches, nude/topless
If you've been there let me know what the scoop is.
Thinking of taking a cruise that it is a stop on.

Nudity is not generally accepted in Key West FL
There is no nudity on Key West beaches and I have not seen any toplessness.

If your cruise ship is in Key West port long enough, your best and greatest opportunity would be to rent a car and go about 125 miles to the wonderful (clothing optional) Haulover Beach at northern Miami Beach.

Key West has many nice restaurants and has a guided tour of Hemmingway's home and guided tour of former president Harry Truman's abode during his frequent trips to Key West.

Key West has a very nice city beach on the south side of the city, but some clothing would have to be worn on the beach.

Key West is gay-friendly and has very frequent gay parades down Duval Street, but I have not gone to any so I do not know what degree of undress Key West permits/tolerates in the parade, but I doubt that full nudity is shown.

I have never been to the Fantasy Fest but only saw photos of the body-painted participants on the web.

I swam nude in the Atlantic Shores Resort motel's outdoor pool in Key West, but the internet states that it is now torn down for other construction.

There is also a nude bar in Key West. It is called "The Garden of Eden" and is on the top floor of the bull and whistle bar on Duvall Street. People are not required to be nude so it does draw some gawkers. I've been to the bar a few times and had a great time.

It is worth a visit while you are there on your cruise!

If you visit Ernest Hemmingway's home, you will see a bold sign at the entrance which states, "Do not touch the cats".

Hemmingway had some six toed cats and now there are a number of cats from this linage in the home and courtyard.

The tour guide stated that they name each cat and he pointed out a cat named Marilyn Monroe.

After the tour, I sat on a wrought iron chair in the beautiful tropical courtyard to take it all in.

Marilyn Monroe became warmly friendly. Marilyn Monroe jumped into my lap and curled up and straight-way fell asleep.

When the next tour came through, I felt compelled (because of the sigh "Do not touch the cats") to explain to the tour guide that I did not touch Marilyn Monroe and that Marilyn Monroe just jumped into my lap.

That is my true story of my encounter with Marilyn Monroe.

Was in Key West just a couple of weeks ago, and there was most definitely no sign of nudity on the beach at Fort Taylor State Park or at Smathers Beach, although there were two teenage girls wearing just g-strings at the latter.

Thongs and G-strings are accepted pretty much anywhere in South Florida. At least any beach or pool. I wouldn't recommend wearing one to the mall without some type of coverup over it. I was at a girl's birthday party at the Hard Rock resort/casino/hotel and the birthday girl was club hopping in a green thong bikini. I believe that she had been at the hotel's pool before everyone got there.

Nt sure whether I made it clear that these girls were topless, i.e. they were wearing only g-strings, and nothing else.

I have heard that there is also a nude beach (not sure of the legality of it) on Bahia Honda key.

I once was at the state park on the Island and saw some of the most risque swim suits on women there that I've ever seen so I wouldn't put the locals of south Florida past making several hushed ones.

This is hearsay though and I didn't actually step foot on the nudist beach there. I wasn't a hundred percent sure where it was.

The only official nude beach in South Florida is Haulover. The keys don't have any official nude beach but they do have some clothing optional bed & breakfasts, the aforementioned Garden of Eden bar and at least one non-landed naturist group. Of course the keys are over 100 miles long and known for having many free spirited locals. I'm sure that there are times when people take advantage of some quiet beach area that's off the beaten path and they can be safe from textiles who don't want to see that.

There is a beautiful public beach at Bahia Honda and there is a VERY small section on the west side where you may occasionally see a few naked bodies. I was there with my significant other and a friend. I guess I felt out of place surrounded by all those bathing suits and chose to leave. Kind of like the way bathing suits feel at a nudist resort. The authorities do patrol there, but if you are out of site, no one says anything.

They seem to patrol Key West a little more carefully, especially where the condos are located. In all the times I have been there in recent years, I have never seen any nudists there or maybe I was just in the wrong place. Lots going on during Fantasy Fest of course with public nudity galore in the streets. I would bet you will see more exhibitionists than nudists!

It is a crying shame that nudity is not tolerated more in Key West

I stayed at Atlantic Shores resort a couple times and was always nude at and around their pool and bar, and I'm really saddened that it was torn down for more high-rise condos. Sure hope that another place like that comes along.

I'd heard of that place. My friend Angela, who worked at the Key West Aquarium a few years back said that she used to go to the pool there to sunbath nude. She enjoyed that it was very gay friendly because most of the patrons were either couples or gay guys and even while laying out nude she had less worry about being hit on than in a swimsuit at a textile pool.

Like I said Fitz, I never saw the beach with my own eyes. I did some research on Bahia Honda when I got back trying to find it. It turned up empty. I did also find out that the key is almost completely uninhabited. This made me suspect that enforcement and monitoring of beaches there might not be all that tight.

I'm sure that if the beach exists, it's unofficial and kept very quiet.

No nudity in the Keys when I was there last year but Haulover was great!
