Greetings to all,
Since I started enjoying being naked, I have been more interested than usual in looking better and feeling better. Although I have always exercised, I have started eating much less meat and more vegetables and fruits. I have lost about 20 pounds and feel much better.
Has such a self awareness experience happened to anyone else?

Same here with the body taking care. Recently, however, I jumped it up several notches when I got some terrific inspiration from Jason, the nudecaster. (Ref: Clothesfree Home page, on the bottom of the page)
I used him as my 'poster boy', because (1) his transition was so dramatic, (2) If he could do it, I suppose so could I, (3) my before condition was strikingly similar to his.
So far it's been 8 weeks and I've concentrated almost solely on my abs. I thought at 63 that there was nothing left 'underneath', but not so. Not only can I now see my feet, I can also see what's hanging too, which makes me feel all that much better for the improvement. Also, my toes aren't as chubby and they look surprisingly longer than before, so that causes another pleasant feeling. Now, mirrors don't seem as foreboding as they used to be. A colon cleanse product is also helping, I think.
By the way, Pumpkinpie, what is that product on the market that is supposed to dissolve the chemicals off of the skins of fruits and veggies. I hope you can tell me, because it would be even more of an antitoxin program then.

Yes, I believe I take pretty good care of myself. I go to the gym regularly and do a combination of aerobics and weights. Overall I eat a good balanced and healthy diet, but in some cases I can improve there. Mainly by eating more natural vs processed foods. The main vice I have is an addition to coffee.
I just feel much better when I eat right and exercise and I hope I'll live longer for it but there are no guarantees.

We eat very little meat and lots of veggies. We both take a 45 minute hike every day. Unfortunately, a couple houses were bought by families with 3 little girls each, and another at the end of the trail adopted a little girl. Also, my wife really wouldn't hike with me being naked the way I used to hike those trails that I created. I also bowl 3 times/week and do gardening and minor vehicle maintenance. I especially enjoy washing the vehicles. That's really good bending and stretching exercise. Can do it mostly naked or totally naked if it's dry enough to run the vehicles around behind the house. I tried the gym thing and don't like it. My wife goes to the gym every morning to arrive at 5 am when it opens. It's also her visiting and networking place, other than church assembly on Sunday.
Lots of my fellow master naturalists are into the (what they think is) healthy food thing. The pot lucks aren't generally very tasty. The master gardener pot lucks are better tasting.

I'm going out looking for a new pair of running shoes this weekend. Now that it's light out after work, I need to hit the pavement. I used to run 15-20 miles per week but let go of it and put on 20 lbs.
I've been a bumb about exercise and need to turn it around.

I don't do as much as I should but I am tryng to change that. I enjoy going for walks in the woods so I do as much of that as my schedule and the weather will permit. I don't belong to a gym which would realy help in the winter but I may consider doing that next winter. Winter really wiped me out hard to even get out of bed somedays. Looking forward to the snow melting and getting outside more. Have been going for some walks here now but the weather still is a strong influence snowed on Mon and below Zero on Tues. Even so did have a few 3 mile walks during the week. Warmer weather will help.

One product for cleaning fruits and veggies is "Healthy Harvest Fruit & Vegtable Rinse" by Healthy Harvest, P.O. Box 881 Madison, CT 06443 (203) 245-2033.
I watch my diet, no sodas, very little red meat. I try to walk as much as I can.

All the reading abot nutrition and exercise I've done in the past 10 years when I started working out 3 + times a week, has shown me that one cannot lose weight just in one area, like the abs. The weight will come off "in sheets" (i.e. all over) if one follows a good nutritional program (including portion control) and exercises every day.
There's certainly nothing wrong with doing ab exercises, just like one would do arm, chest, shoulder or leg exercises, so that your ab muscles do get stronger...but as long as anyone is above 10% body fat, it's highly doubtful that you'll be able to see that ultimate "six pack", because those great looking muscles are buried underneath a layer of unwanted fat.
Good luck in taking the first step, LC, in getting back into your old shape!

Has such a self awareness experience happened to anyone else?Certainly has! My wife and I eat very sensibly (she's vegetarian and has cholesterol problems). We have a pool and swim every day. It's made no difference!!

Good luck in taking the first step, LC, in getting back into your old shape! Thanks. And sure, I know the part about targeting weight loss. What's appealing about starting a routine of just crunches is that it's a low bar to clear. After getting into it, my mind will gear up and that's what I really want.
One day many years ago I got off the couch and went for a walk. Several years later that seed grew into a marathon (and the 20 week training run up... still not sure which was more challenging).
So yep.. I'm on the same page.

I take better care of myself now then I did ten years ago, my mid twenties. Because someone I work with pointed out that I took better care of my car then myself, I decided to change. It-took-ten years to quit smoking; half my alcohol intake; and eat better, but I did. Next on my agenda is bike riding and sit-ups. Look for an up-date in ten years!!

I think staying in shape has become more important for me as a nudist for a couple reasons but the main one is that as my husband and I get older we want to keep our health and fitness so that we can have the energy and enthusiasm to continue traveling to new naturist beaches around the world.

No difference! Tiger, I know you and your wife, and you're both in good shape. Now if we could all stop drinking wine with dinner, we'd look like (middle aged) supermodels!

If that isn't an incentive for all of us to stay healthy and in shape, I don't know what is! Thanks for chiming in, Missyd. :-)

A colon cleanse product is also helping, I think.
Which product are you using? I've been thinking about using one and I keep hearing commercials for different ones, just not sure which ones work. I have read some reviews about how some of them don't work at all so I figured I would ask here.
Thanks

Yes, I'm trying to take care of my body. I never wear clothes in the house, and having to look at myself in the morror helps me stay on target. I do 200 crunches and 100 pushups per day. plus some free weights. Take a day off now and then. Spend 2 hours on my indoor trainer bike when the weather is bad, or 2 - 3 hours out on one of my road bicycles per day. It took 10 years, but have been successful at removing 70 lbs and keeping it off. I'm now back to my college weight, and clothes sizes. Should have done all this work earlier in my lfe. Somewhere I read that one of the people on the forum takes "Turmeric". I also take Turmeric and also aged garlic extract. They are to both help prevent Melinoma. I've been through a stage three Melinoma and lymph node removal. Since then have been able to get ahead of the melinoma, and have been free of it for 7 years. Go to the dermatologist twice a year. I have been exposed to tons of sun and sun burn as a kid. I'm a Blonde haired, blue eyed person of German decent. The Turmeric tends to darked your skin a bit, and now I dont' get sun burn. I'll get pink, and by the next day its' turned to tan. My dermatologist just shakes his head, but it seems to be working.

Becoming involved with nudism had sort of the opposite effect in a way.....it made me more comfortable in my own skin. Then I slacked off on exercise. I had a flair-up of my neck a couple of years ago and that sideline me. That is better now though, and not an excuse. In fact, exercising will keep it tuned up. :o Lately, I have been having problems with arthritis in my foot. Any walking aggravates it. That has helped add to a more sedentary life it seems.
So, now spring is coming, and I am working on getting moving. I got some new shoes which at the very least, allow me to walk with minimal aggravation of my foot. Yesterday I did a fair amount of walking and it is not bad. I am dusting off my yoga mat, and my elliptical trainer to get back in gear. My body is telling me I need it. I am noticing that this side of fifty has more aches and pains, sadly. Exercise will help that.......and as missyd said, we need the energy to visit beaches and other warm places of the world!
I much prefer to be active and reasonably fit......starting over again is a chore, but I can do it. :)

My eating habits are still poor but I bicycle around town, try to maintain an exercise routine. I think the consequences of not taking care of your body are too serious to contemplate. Also I get a lot of chuckles when people find out I am not in my late 30s
but my late 50s. I look at strength and fitness like I do money, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I don't look after my body at all, never have. I eat what is tasty and filling, and I generally walk only when I need to get somewhere (I don't drive so it's probably more than most!). I've never been to a gym in my life and wouldn't know what to do if I ever found myself in one.
My body is far from perfect, but so what? It does its job, and I don't feel any pressing need to hide it, disguise it, improve it or decorate it. My belly is a lot larger than it once was, but I would rather be happy and fat than hungry and buff. The whole thing will fall to bits in 30-40 years anyway, so I'm going to enjoy the good times!

I never used to worry about my diet when I was younger because the hard work I was doing kept me in shape. Now that I have a heart condition and bad knees, my diet is very important, and I have greatly reduced my salt and sugar and cholesterol intake. Weight wise I am within 10 lbs. of my working days and still look pretty good.
