I've started attending a nude yoga class. I've never done yoga before and learning everything has been quite a challenge. Lemme first say that after about 2 minutes you don't even care that everyone is nude because you are more worried about falling on your face or getting the poses right. It is also nice to be able to go into a deep stretch without anything encumbering the body. I always thought yoga was easy looking but this class has been a challenge and very tiring when done but I really like it and recommend it to everyone. :p

Nude is the best way to do yoga. I tried it at a Southwest Naturist Get Together years ago and it was pretty good. A matter of fact there was a photo of me in "N" magazine stretching that a friend of mine recognized me in.
There is a nude yoga class that meets in Austin every week that advertizes the meetings on the local Craigs List.

I attended a nude yoga class in NY city. I felt very comfortable, although I should have been in a beginners class.

I was watching a yoga class. A young man split his pants. All of a sudden, his privates dangled free and he was obviously embarrassed.
He would have been able to just enjoy himself if he started nude.
He did not fix it though and finished the class. I was impressed by his reaction.

A good teacher will be able to include the very beginner to the very advanced. It is unlikely to get enough yogis together to do two separate classes. One should never compete with others but only yourself and you should be inspired by others not jealous.

I do yoga to stretch out after a long road bicycle ride. Nude is the only way to do yoga. I have never been to a class, but actually talked with and did some yoga with a yoga instructor at a naturist resort. He is also a runner and cyclist, so he understood the stretches I needed to do.

There is a nude yoga group in Boston. First, like anything, exercise is great nude! Secondly, the class was hard (I should be in a beginner's class as well!), but it was a lot of fun, naked, and GOOD for your body! Sadly, the schedule doesn't work for me to participate as much as I would like.
I would like to try this as well. Does anyone have a lead on nude yoga in San Francisco? I have heard that One Taste had a class on Sunday mornings, but the reference I saw was several years old and there is no mention of this class on their calendar.

I have heard of a class that does HOT Yoga! I assume it is designed to make a person sweat out toxins, but I would like to attend Hot NAKED Yoga, sort of part yoga class, part sauna? I doubt we have room here to list all the health benefits of that!

Yes, I like the Hot, actually called Bikram Yoga or Bikram Hot Yoga, best. The room is about 100 degree F and and about 40% humidity. Benefits of hot yoga are:
* Warms the muscles for greater flexibility
* Helps achieve a deeper stretch
* Flushes toxins from the body
* Improves efficiency of the immune system
* Creates a cardiovascular workout
* Burns more calories
* Builds endurance
Nude or not, you need to bring a coupe towels because you are dripping wet the entire time. Awesome workout!

The traditional idea was that wipeing sweat off into a towel would weaken the constitution. The proper way to deal with sweat was to rub it back into the skin maintaining the prana or energy within the body. This is also refected in the idea of not practicing in direct sunlight or a draft. The desire to regulate body temperature as nature designed it.
When swimming I tend not to dry off with a towel but use the palm to remove excess water and air-dry the rest. Saves on washing! The ancient Romans used this technique of washing using scarpers but i prefer a palm rather than a hunk of metal.

According to The Pleasure Principle (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/15/fashion/15commune.html) (from the New York Times, 3-13-2009), they still do yoga, but it's now fully clothed since voyeurs would show up for class (mentioned in paragraph 13, so scroll down a bit)... however, considering One Taste is a sexual commune (more like a cult according to some former members), it's quite odd that they'd even care (even though the yoga classes were non-sexual).
I'd look for nude yoga elsewhere, to be honest. There are plenty of legitimate nudist resorts that could certainly host such a class (and perhaps some already do).

I occasionally attend this nude yoga class, which is actually in Cambridge, the next town over from Boston but is easy to get to by public transportation. As for how hard it is, I'll say it's difficult if you're somewhat out of shape like I am, but yoga is not a competitive thing; you do as much as you can at your own level. If you've considered it but have not done yoga before, I would suggest going to your library and see if they have the video/DVD titled 'Basic Yoga For Dummies'. There are helpful hints on it on how to do modified positions if you're out of shape, have high blood pressure, or glaucoma as I do. From that tape I learned that I shouldn't be doing some of the inverted poses. And yes, you do get a little more of a stretch without clothing in nude yoga. Wha I reallywant is nude Tai Chi. What little I did in the past gave me an equal stretch as yoga but the slow, fluid movement was much less strenuous on the body than yoga, in my opinion. At any rate, whatever I can do nue with others is cool.
P.S. Can anyone tell me how my photo can be shown wnen I post here? I only see it when I go to myh profile. What am I not doing, or doing wrong?

Hey Steve O,
Thanks for pointing out what I was doing wrong. I thind I made a update to it. By the way, a previous post was asking about nude yoga in their area. Here is a link to a list of known nude yoga classes - well, mostly nude yoga classes; I did see one or two clothed ones listed - in order by state.

If it doesn't come thru or if you can't get it for some reason or another, just send me a direct email and I'll cut and paste it to you. I don't think I should post it herebecause it's kinda long.

Never tried yoga, but enrolled in an aerobics class. Alot of fast footwork and too difficult to keep up with, so after 5 weeks of that it was back to tennis which is so much simpler, more fun too. I may try yoga in the future and see how that goes.

I found one here in Dallas. I may give it a try. Dr. recommended and I am just tired being perpetually sore from jogging.

I've never been to a yoga class and have never heard of nude yoga around here. But I started practicing yoga at home last year and have found I like it much better in the nude. Less restricting of movment as clothes tend to gather and bunch up at the joints. My wife brought home a DVD on "Yoga for Beginners" , so I tried it and like it a lot. There are routines and poses/streches for everyone and what you want to work on. Flexibility, weight loss, power yoga, yoga for athletes. Also shows how modify them for the beginner. I would recommend it for anyone.
