Both resorts are about the same driving distance from me. While I have been to Solair a number of times, the drive is rough - highway all the way. Berkshire Vista is a nicer driver, through I've never been there. Has anyone been to both and can compare the two? Is it worth going to Berkshire Vista over Solair?

I can't compare the two, since I've never been to Solair, and actually, I've never even been to Berkshire Vista in the summer. The Mrs and I have always wanted to go to Solair, but just haven't made it happen. I've never heard a negative thing about the place. We used to go to BV in February, but that certainly didn't give a realistic feel for what it's like in the summer when there are actually people there. We've always wanted to go in the summer, but haven't done that yet either.

My suggestion is that you just take a chance and try BV. What have you got to lose?

I haven't been to either in 20+ years. But what I do know --

Solair is a cooperatively held club. There is a screening process -- after three visits, and approval by the directors, you are then "invited" to join as an associate or full member. Solair had an excellent video -- probably the BEST I've ever seen, a DVD on the application process but it also shows the facility. If you were to call them, I think it's $10 or something like that.

Solair also wants singles to make their first visit on a weekend.

BV is a proprietary club -- where you can pay a day fee, or seasonal fee, etc. There is no obligation to join after three visits.

Solair is affiliated with both AANR and TNS. Berkshire Vista is only listed as an AANR affiliate -- and is not listed in The Naturist Society network.

In spite of the fact that they've had a couple of puff articles written in 'N' in the last year....

This is not required however. You can NOT become a member until at least Four visits in 2009. They will not however turn you away at the gate either. You will not reap the discounted rates though.

Solair as beautiful as ever. B Vista is too. Some people claim that B Vista is not as family friendly as Solair. They are Both worth a visit and then choose for yourself.

This past year a whole lot of people moved from Berkshire Vista to Juniper Woods in Catskill NY. So Many, in fact J. Woods is having to go through some serious expansion.

The best part of Solair, that I miss going to the others is the wonderful sandy beach.

Solair is in Connecticut, Berkshire Vista in Massachusetts. I've been to BV and hope to get back there this summer. Haven't been to Solair.

The white stuff in the picture is nice and cool. Very, very cool. It's snow.

I live in CT and have been to both. I enjoy Berkshire Vista more because of the drive (it's in the Berkshire mountains of western Mass.), the hot tubs (there are two big ones side-by-side), the pool, the people and the hilly terain. They've also got volleyball, outdoor showers, a grill/bar by the pool, a grill/bar indoors, petanque and two tennis courts.

They have a live band on the deck once or twice a summer and a couple hundred nudists grooving to some tunes makes for a nice afternoon, and you can tell the owners put money back into it. I don't have a seasonal camper, but there's a tenting area and it's close enough to do a round-trip in a day.

Solair has it's high points as well. We enjoyed the tour/intro process, it's more woodsy, and they've got a pond with sandy beach. Since the divorce, I just like to pop in or out and not carry a membership so BV is better for me. That's also why I let my AANR membership lapse. Got bored with it, nothing to do with AANR or either place.

The ski slopes in the background of Procrastinator's pic are from Jiminy Peak. We've skiied there and they've got a Zephyr Wind Turbine powering the mountain lights. Check it out: http://jiminypeak.com/page.php?PageID=1367&PageName=Wind+Turbine+FAQ

We've been up Lurk's way too in NH. The ex-wife took me there and gave social nudism a try as a birthday present one year. Alas... that was our only visit and notice I said "ex-wife." Anyway, Lurk's a bit modest as that's a great, well kept place to get a tan as well. ('cept stay off the trail during the day in July unless you have an understading with mosquitos... )

So visit Berkshire Vista and leave your clothes behind (a pun!). :D

Solair has beautiful facilities, tends (from my experience) to a be a bit more conservative than Berkshire Vista in terms of rules and regulations. Alot more families. I personally found their emphasis on membership to be a turnoff.

Berkshire Vista is a drive, but has some nice facilities and great scenery. No pressure about membership and people are laid back. Went a couple of times last summer and most certainly will be back this summer! I would say try both once.

Does BV or Solair tend to have younger members (myself being a younger)?

To open up the thread a little: For those with expirience, what is the best nude resort in all of New England?

The best one? Difficult to say, because one might prefer what one has to offer over another one.

The age demographics tend to be about the same at both with the bulk of frequenters being over 40 (not really a surprise), although I have certainly seen people 35 and under at both places. My own personal opinion though is that the people at BV certainly act younger than the people at Solair. Maybe it has something to do with their bar!

We have never visited Solair as it seems like too much work to go through their process. We only go to nude resorts a couple times a summer. We love Berkshire Vista and have been going for about ten years. It is a beautiful view up in the mountains and the facilities are very nice. The other campers are warm and friendly. Unfortunately some of the people that work there are anything but friendly. Overall I would recommend it.

We haven't been to either place. If you want a place in CT. I highly recomend Sun Ridge in Sterling CT. see sunridge1.com

I have never been to Berkshire Vista, but some former visitors have told me stories about excessive rules. Some seemed pretty inane, like a maximum number of people allowed in a trailer. I have been to Solair, and found it nice, but they also seemed to be big on rules. I have found the folks at Juniper Woods to be far more laid back. I can't speak highly enough about them. It's a bit more rustic, but that appealed to me, too.

I agree John!

We visit Juniper Woods often and the people are not only great they are REAL.

Recently many Berkshire Vista members have moved their trailers and have become members at Juniper Woods.
