Does anyone have the "official" and current word on the status of nude use of Playalinda? I have heard that this once beautiful setting is now off limist to nude sunbathers.

Playalinda has always been an "unofficial" beach, but presently there are no problems with nude use in the traditional area past the last crossover. I was there last weekend and there were lots of people. I actually had to park one lot down and walk. The problems you are referring to were more than a year ago and as far as I know have not recurred. If you are in central Florida, by all means go to Playalinda, just arrive early.

Dear Fellow Naturist--With vacation time approaching and the beautiful spring months here in Florida upon us, I've begun getting inquiries about what's new at Playalinda Beach.
While we haven't lost any ground in our battle with the anti-nudist administration of the Seashore, we haven't gained much, either. For the visitor to the Titusville area there shouldn't be any serious problems. The local rangers are still surly and hiding in the dunes hoping to see sex, but the sheriff no longer comes out to harass us.
The brightest news is that we have a new congressperson, Suzanne Kosmas, whose district covers both ends of the seashore, and who was pro-nudist during her time in the state legislature. I've sent her information on the destruction of the dunes due to improper placement of sand fencing and the superintendent's attitude toward us, her biggest customer group, and asked for a meeting. Still waiting for an answer, but I imagine as a new congress person during this economic downturn, she has more important fish to fry. You might want to help me turn up the heat for our issue. Visit her website and from there send an email telling her you're a naturist and vent your feelings and how you're treated as a second-class citizen by the rangers and much you spend locally each time you visit Playalinda. Here's the link to her website:

Those who live in her congressional district have an even greater obligation write.
If any one is planning a visit in May, be aware there's a Shuttle Launch scheduled for May 12, a Tuesday, which means that the beach will be closed the previous weekend, May 9, 10, 11th unless the launch is previously delayed. Any delay past the scheduled launch time will keep the beach closed until it's launched. Watch this site for launch updates:

I have just moved into the Clearwater area and am interested in the status of both Apollo and Playalinda beaches. I've noticed that the Central Florida Naturists group, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Playalinda and Apollo as c/o beaches, seems to be dead; there hasn't been a post or update on their site since 2007. Does anyone know what happened to them?

From here, it's an easy (but lengthy) drive up I-4, across SR 44 over to New Smyrna to Apollo beach. To Playalinda, I haven't tried it yet but all I see are toll roads going to that beach, unless someone knows of a good way without tolls. I did go to Playalinda once about 6 years ago on a Tuesday and did not see any rangers.
I went to Apollo yesterday and spoke to a regular, who indicated that Playalinda isn't worth it with it's on-and-off harassment problems.
I'm glad someone is keeping this issue alive on this site.
