View Full Version : WHY Nudist Video Clips?

Strictly for the sake of discussion, I would like to know what nudists find interesting about nudist video clips. Why do they applaud them and say how wonderful they are? What is it about such clips that appeal to people? It's certainly not the sight of naked bodies.

If you were showing them to textiles, I could see the point of showing nudists going about their daily business, to show that being nude isn't such a big deal, and that nudists are just like them. But, to show them to one another is like preaching to the choir.

Or, is it as basic as relating -- seeing someone like yourself doing things you do -- akin to other "minorities" wanting to see themselves represented on film?

No offense to anyone, but I find most of them boring, especially when they're not in English. And, I seldom watch them all the way through. It's just a bunch of people who happen to be naked moving around doing things that are not all that interesting.

It brings to mind Groucho Marx who, when the Broadway Show, "Hair," featuring brief male nudity, was gaining notoriety, quipped:

"I simply stayed home, stripped off my clothes, stood naked in front of a mirror -- and saved myself the price of a ticket." :D

In other words, no big deal.

In my case, that's exactly it. Most of the time, I couldn't give a rat's behind about what other people are doing nude, nor do I wish to go out of my way just to see another person doing mundane things without any clothing. But, there are times when I start to wonder if I'm the only person in the world who does this, since I know of no nudists in my area. On occasion, it's nice to hop on the internet and actually see that other people enjoy being clothes-free and I'm not as alone as I sometimes feel regarding nudity.

I like them because it shows that I am not alone in my practices, which is sometimes easy to feel when no one around you is nude. I also feel that they are good for those who may be new to nudism, a closet nudist, or still on the fence, they show others practicing what they want to do but may not have yet tried.

Yes, it's good to see actual evidence that I'm not just a lone wacko in my preference for going about my day-to-day life unclothed. It also helps me to reverse the damage done to me by acculturation in a body-ashamed society. Specifically, I used to have a tendency to flinch or double-take when I caught sight of someone nude, which is now pretty much gone. I don't do much social nudity and when I would, it would make me a little self-conscious to notice that I was doing that.

A part of the "human condition" is the need to "belong", to be accepted as part of a group, society, or community.

To a nudist, the presentation of such information in any format - video, print, forums (such as these), whatever - is an affirmation of that belonging: that one isn't "alone in the wilderness" as it were but a member of a large group of people who feel likewise.

Back in those dark days before the internet, I had a longing to go be with others just to know that I wasn't nuts for wanting to be naked. Now, one can get this assurance from forums like this one and, yes, nudist videos.

I can understand that viewing naturist clips is a shallow representation of the social graces of naturist living. I am aware that not all have come-out as practising naturists. I feel these clips serve a purpose to normalise nudity for the novice and reinforce acceptance for the experienced. They have a place here and are good for networking. I must admit I find them a little boreing but still scan them often. I thank S. for seeking out and presenting these clips; you are appreciated.

Good answers, everyone! :applause:

I agree, I CAN relate to NOT feeling "wacko" as I sit here nude, typing!

I guess seeing others casually naked eases our isolation and gives a feeling of normalcy.

I pretty much never watch them myself. Very boring. Only reason I have watched before was just to see what kind of facilities some places have and how big a crowd is enjoying nudity.

Hello to all,
To me also the video clips reaffirm that I am not wacko or crazy for being naked(as I am as I write this) or wanting to be naked. The clips also reaffirm that I can be myself and not fear what others may think.

It depends on the clip offered. I actually bought two videos from the Helios Natura collection for curiosity sake, but when I actually watched them, I realized just how mundane and boring they were. Basically, the videos are just home videos--and you know there is nothing worse than watching someone else's home videos, especially when you neither know the person nor understand what is being said.

Now others may be like mini-movies and are interesting. As for documentaries, well why does anyone watch a documentary? Because you want to see how the information is packaged and what the ultimate message was.

Then there are those which are or act as news reports. It is interesting to see what they talk about and how nudism comes out in it.

By the way, the National Geographic channel will air their nudity episode of Taboo on Saturday at 10pm.

In a way, it's also a way to live vicariously through them. And as a reminder of something that you like to do.

A non-nudist example of this would be someone who puts up photos of their car, motorcycle, boat, favorite beach, etc. in their cubicle at work. I guess one could ask them why they have a picture of their boat on their cubicle wall and see what answer they give. I suspect it will be vague and they will give the "I just like it" answer.

I think that it's because they can look at it from time to time and it's a bit of a 'pick-me-up' or a psychological re-charge to be able to put themselves on that boat for a few seconds every now and then and have a micro-vacation.

I get the same feeling when I look at nudist videos or pictures. I imagine what it would be like to be wherever they are and escape from the reality of my computer desk for a few minutes.

Stay nude.
