Hey. I'm kind of new to the nudist lifestyle and so I wanted to see what other people thought about this. I've been reading the posts on this website and a few others and I know that many nudists believe that bikinis and speedos sexualize certain parts of the body i.e. breasts, crotch, butt. but I also read that when many nudists have to wear clothes to a beach or swimming pool they were small speedos or bikinis so they can be almost nude. I don't see anything wrong with bikinis or speedos or the naked human body but this doesn't really make sense to me. I was just wondering what others thought about this. Just Curious.
Thanks

The queston is, why wear anything if you do't have to? It's much better to go "swimsuit free", no matter how small the swimsuit is. Basically, it's considered a restrictive piece of garment. As for 'sexulizing' your aforementioned body parts, it does no sort, but the speedos appear to "highlight" the body parts bringing attention from others.True, when I can't be nude on a public beach, I'll wear the skimpiest, yet legal swim suit I have. I do not like the speedos so I wear running shorts with the liners removed. Much more room for air.:smoking:

I would much rather wear a wrap or sarong-type garment, and the interesting part of that is when people DON'T know whether it is the only garment you are wearing or not. In our present society, it is more acceptable for a female to wear a "skirt" without any garments underneath, but that's not to say a man is unable to do it also.
I would rather walk down the ocean's break-line or boardwalk wearing only a towel wrapped around my waist than wear a Speedo! So with regards to the "skimpy alternatives" to going fully nude, I would say they are a sadly disappointing option for us.
Does this help at all? I guess I'm a little unclear about what the actual question was... Specifically that is.

D-Train,
I know I have written responses that are conflicting in regards to this topic. I wear speedo type suits. I would rather wear nothing but that isn't always possible. I think that they are comfortable and the closest to being nude when you can not be. One of my buddies at the public pool I belong to told me he would never wear them because of the "looks people give you." I've heard the talk that goes on when someone appears wearing this type of suit but I could care less. If this is all they have to talk about then their lives are very sad.

Thanks everyone for replying. I was just wondering what others thought of the subject. I don't think that other than bringing attention to certain parts that they sexualize them. I was just seeing if others thought so. I would also rather be nude.
I just thought since I had heard that speedos and bikinis "sexualized" parts of the body it conflicted with the idea of nudists wearing them to be almost nude.
This was just something that didn't make sense in my mind.
Thanks again

i agree with you when it is impossible to be nude at a pool I use the speedos and I could less with what others say. When in palm springs I wear them plus countless other men who are at the pool. I may even wear something more brief as well to get as much tan all over as possible. Board shorts are good to wear when I go on errands and then they come off as soon as I return home and enjoy complete freedom. So choose whatever suits you decide on wearing and when nude enjoy the time allotted.;

I guess where I see a problem with bikinis and speedos, is if you plan on showing off what you got, why not just take it all off and be done with it. The laws are stupid; someone will be arrested for being totally uncovered, but someone wearing the equivalent of a rubber band for covering is a-okay? Plus speedos just look uncomfortable as heck.

For me, I just don't like wearing anything constricting. Speedos and the like are not going to work for me as they are too tight. Even "tightie whities" are too constricting for me.
When I go textile swimming, I'd rather have trunks with room down there.

Hello D-Train. With all the posts here on this subject, I have some small insight. I have found that there are some people who will wear the skimpy bathing suits and speedos because they are really uncomfortable with being flatout nude. So, they will wear them to be semi-nude. Some people simply do not want to completely expose themselves around a bunch of strangers because as I say, they are not comfortable. In a sense, some would even venture to say they are really insecure with their bodies and are putting up a front by wearing the alternative swimwear. I have nothing personally against it because it is their right after all. Nevertheless, I am merely giving you my insight here as I said earlier.

There are kind of two levels. At a sociological level, minimal beachwear does end up highlighting what society requires covered. At a personal level, few individuals think of it this way -- they are just conforming to minimum standards. Some speedo wearers may be the exception.
For me, as others here, it is all about comfort, so speedos are the worst sort of male option. For women, bikinis are less problematic, except for ill-fitting, especially wired, tops. Most of my naturist friends are more likely, when required, to wear loose-fitting swimwear. I use tan-thru wrap-arounds that snap between the legs to look sort of like board-shorts when walking around. Even if they come unsnapped while swimming, as long as I am covered somehow, nobody seems to care about the gender-neutral alternative technology. And the tanthru material saves me getting teased about tan lines at my usual beach.

My Friend Agde, I enjoy wearing the speedo type and they are nice and comfy and if at possible I will not wear them whenever possible. You have your options and I have mine and the best thing is we both agree being nude is the best way in all circumstances. So have a nice day and keep up the good work.

Someone earlier wrote, "minimal beachwear does end up highlighting what society requires covered." I think it can be just the opposite, in that a skimpy thong or bikini can also highlight what is left uncovered. I find it often easier to look good naked than in skimpy things. A really small thong or speedo might make my stomach look larger by comparison, for instance. For me, I prefer to be naked, but if I'm in a place where I need to wear some sort of swimwear, I say the less the better, but it does need to pass the full length mirror test (from back and front!).

I totally agree that nude is the only way to go. My family and I sometimes go to the textile beach since it is much closer to home than Apollo or Playalinda. We just enjoy looking at the ocean and looking for shells.
My problem is that I have speedos that are getting old. Every store I've gone into has nothing but those shorts that go down to your knees. If there is one thing that's worse than having to wear a bathing suit in the first place, it's having to wear a pair of wet, cold, sticky shorts clinging to your legs. Are there any places left that sell speedo type suits, or somewhere online I can order some?
Any help would be great.

Tan thru suits come in many styles, including smaller "speedo" and the regular size 'trunks' we used to be able to buy. They usually come with a nylon (hosery type) lining that can be easily cut out, leaving only a very thin non water absorbant fabric with a bright print pattern that cannot be seen through, but is actually very sheer.

Try www.undergear.com they may not be speedo swim suits but they do carry a line of skimpy swim suits and thongs for men. On second thought I have seen Speedos in their catalog.
I agree it is better to swim wearing just your birthday suit. Most endurance activities would be better enjoyed in the nude. Personally, I am a runner and because it is virtually impossible to run nude without getting arrested I run in the briefest running shorts I can find. Sure I am showing a lot more leg than is fashionable for males these days but I am not into fashion to the extent of sacrificing my comfort and enjoyment.

I would have to go with the loose fitting trunks for comfort, like most here. omfort reigns supreme. I just bought what I guess they call pajama shorts as they are like boxer underwear, but have pockets. One of them is see thru and the wife seemed to be worried I am gonna wear them outside our confines of our home. I think she's right.

Like everyone else on this forum, I would much rather be naked than wear a swimsuit. But we all know there's times when you have to wear something. My favorite suits are thongs from a company named Skinz. Photos are here:
http://www.skinzwear.com/prod_Search.html?indexcat=100278&indexname=Men's%20Skinny%20Side%20Strap%20Thong
I realize that thongs on guys look a little too unusual to people in much of America. But they're at least accepted on beaches in parts of California and Florida and I've found that they're completely accepted at many resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico. Many people on vacation seem to put away their prejudices, if any, and be more open and accepting of new and different experiences.
A few years ago I was wearing one these thongs at the pool bar at a textile resort in Mexico. Two young women in their late 20's came up to my wife and me and asked if they could take a picture. I posed with them and my wife took the photo with their camera...then they stayed and had a drink with us. They said they'd never seen a guy in a thong and, when we told them we're nudists, they laughed and said they'd never met a nudist either. It was a lot of fun. I've also worn the thong on a dive boat with about 30 scuba divers. Everyone was very friendly to us and no one said a word about the thong.
If you're somewhere where you have to have something a little more modest, these suits from Skinz are really comfortable and much smaller than Speedos.

I agree with the post above. If you absolutely must wear a suit...the smaller the better.

When we see someone, our eye is attracted to anything that we are not used to seeing.
If a person is totally nude, we may look at breats, genitals, or buttocks for a moment but our eye will look away as there is nothing unusual.
Speedo type swim suits that are often in bright colors draw the eye's attention. As a result, one tends to focus more on buttocks and genitals.
That is why totally nude is less sexual than skimpy swimsuits.

First off I am a swimmer, and no way am I going to get into any board shorts (only at the Colorado river). I prefer a speedo type swimsuit if I have to wear one at all. But, I do not like the spandex type either. I prefer the nylon style from www.aussiebum.com . The Loose style is best. Not to binding. With the loose fit while swimming you can almost get the natural dangling effect. Check them out.
