Hello everyone. For all of you sports fans here, I have some news for you. The Los Angeles Lakers has just captured the NBA from the Orlando Magic basketball team on their own home turf. I have been keeping tabs on the game from the msn.com website. Their last title they won was in 2002. Well, I just hope that the city does not erupt in either riots or civil disorder merely because their team brought home the title! I never will forget what happened in 2002 with the burning of police cars and looting of small businesses after the game. Anyway, I just thought I would pass along this information for those who are interested.

I do not know if it was as bad as 2002, but the idiots were out again. I have to ask if it makes any sence to destroy your home town just because your home team won? If you achieve something on a personal level do you burn down your own house to celebrate?
Go ahead and celebrate, I do not have a problem with that, I do not care if it becomes a little rowdy, but destruction of property if going overboard.
Hey, Lakers-
Been a long-time Lakers fan, since Kareem!
Too bad though, about the violence after the game.
Other cities have encountered similar problems.
IMHO, it is the drinking, herd mentality.
One guy, one drink, no problem.
Lots of guys, lots of drinks, lots of problems.

Hello nimrod. I agree with you 100% here. This has always been a problem when teams or individuals win a major championship or title. What is the point of setting bonfires and destroying or damaging property, looting, and vandalism? Do they think the team condones this kind of behavior? If they think yes, they are certainly wrong! All the team members they talked to were either disgusted or embarrassed by their idiocy. And that had nothing to do with the Lakers winning of the championship. It's a crying shame that this behavior is symbolic of such a fantastic and deserving accomplishment. And they are not the only city which has that problem when such a feat is accomplished. Do you always notice that when two teams compete in a major sporting event in which a championship is involved that the law enforcement in both cities are on modified, tactical alert? That is really the sad part of it all. It will always make that city look bad and that is what a lot of people will remember other than the winning of the championship.
