South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford seemed to have disappeared over the last few days. After causing an uproar, his spokesman finally divulged that Sanford has been hiking the Appalachian Trail. Coincidentally, one of the days he was hiking was also Naked Hiking Day. The annual event is celebrated on the first day of summer.

I read that story and the whole thing struck me as odd. If you needed time alone to write up something, why not just come out and say it? Also, away from his sons on Father's Day strikes me as odd. Maybe he was just freehiking!! Just my 2cents.

Thats our beloved Governor -- he's know for doing some weird stuff. Wouldn't it be refreshing if he were in fact free hiking the Applachain Trail? The news here is making a big deal out of it -- tracking his cell phone, looking for phantom state owned cars in parking lots... guess the news is kinda slow right now.

Sanford's conduct during this past Father's Day weekend and his staff's
covering up for him, i.e., coming up with one lame excuse for his absence
after another, is, for the most part, par for the course in the GOP.

The latest National news reports say SC Governor Stanford is back home and admits to having an affair with a women from Argentina for the past seven years, and he will be resigning from the board of Governors.

This is so funny. I know Democrats have had this problem too but with Ensign and only days later Sanford it's just a hoot. Makes you think the elephant should be replaced with a logo of pants around the ankles. In all honesty from a strictly govt. standpoint the going awol was many times worse than the affair itself but that could be a different thread.
