He was a talented artist. A bit eccentric, but very talented.

Quite simply, the greatest there has ever been or ever will be. Bad came out when I was three years old and I've been a fan ever since. Just about every artist of my generation has copied him in one way or another, but none can do it better. He's broken records that no one has come close to beating. His videos are groundbreaking, his songs are legendary, and his live performances are dazzling.
Some people will try to focus on his personal problems, but most of us focus on his talent. Despite this I would ask everyone to have respect for Michael and his family at this time. Insults and name-calling are inappropriate and in bad taste after someone's death.

BareGreg. You might not like him, but to say something like that is completely unnecessary and you deserve the red dot you now have.
I remember watching Thriller when it first came out. I didn't have the album, honestly, my sister did and I would borrow it now and then. Thriller came out when I was in high school and as odd as he turned out to be, there was no one bigger. With the turn in music to digital format and so many young people feelin that they are 'entitled' to download and copy it for free there will probably be no bigger seller than him. Thriller sold more copies than any other album in music history. You can say anything you want, the numbers don't lie. He was the King of Pop.
It is just a shocker and came out of nowhere. The most shocking death in music since Elvis, not the most tragic, that will always belong to Lennon.
RIP, the paparazzi can't torment you anymore.

What a sad ending to a talented man. He had such talent and was so troubled. When we were thirteen years old, we were the same age........how'd he get to be two years younger than me?

When we were thirteen years old, we were the same age........how'd he get to be two years younger than me? Well, you're up in Canada, closer to the pole, where the Earth spins a bit faster and the days fast just a bit quicker. Likewise, people on the equator age the slowest. True story... I read it on the Internet.
All seriousness aside... like some of you other folks, I think he was a great talent that's passed too soon. I heard Thriller recently and was struck by how many facets the tune has and how good it is. It'll age well. I've got a couple 'Greatest Hits of the 70's' CDs and he's on there with 'I'll Be There.' A number one tune at age 11.
I hope his extended family can bear the intense media pressure during their time of sorrow. I'll not watch any of it out of respect for them.

WHAT??? You've got it backwards. The closer to the pole, the slower you travel.
Anyways...he was a great singer at the beginning. Loved his music. I think things turned sour for him because he was so lonely. Kind of ironic...millions of fans but so lonely.

Yes yes yes!
No no no!
People at the equator are moving faster - which makes time go more slowly. Ask Einstein - its all about the special theory of relativity. So Canadians, polar bears and reindeers age more quickly because they are moving more slowly. 'Struth!

Truly sad to see such a talented man die so young. The following are lyrics from a song which Michael, himself, says is autobiographical about his life.
Written and Composed by Michael Jackson.
Produced by Michael Jackson.
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for the world that I come from
'Cause I've been looking around
In the lost and found of my heart...
No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...
People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood
I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like pirates in adventurous dreams,
Of conquest and kings on the throne...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me,
Look within your heart then ask,
Have you seen my Childhood?
People say I'm strange that way
'Cause I love such elementary things,
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood (Childhood) I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like fantastical stories to share
But the dreams I would dare, watch me fly...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me.
The painful youth I've had

First off, I AM closer to the north pole. I am kept in a deep freeze ten months of the year (or so it seems). Everyone knows that keeping things in the fridge helps them last longer!
Second, my sister (b. 1960) stated that he was in between our ages, so 50 is correct. (13 WAS a long time ago after all)
MoonShadow, that is a poignant lyric isn't it.

I'd never wish him dead or harmed, punished perhaps. But I know 25-year-olds struggling to pay the rent on ramshackle peeling houseshares who've accomplished more in musical creativity than this over-hyped, lately lacklustre superstar. It's a terrible loss for his family, friends and fans. But I doubt that his contribution will be rated in future decades as highly as others without the outstanding promotional resources which he enjoyed.
I think it's sad too that his wealth shielded him from having to address his problems: it's sad also that now he'll never have that opportunity. Too much fame is a dangerous thing, and we shouldn't merely subscribe to its cult of celebrity.

BareGreg and DaveP. You seem to be forgetting a few things. In music there are watershed moments. Elvis on TV (above the hips only), The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, The BeeGees with Disco and Saturday Night Fever, MJ with Thriller (Along with the MTv video), Nirvana with Grunge. Moments when a major shift happened in music. Moments when an entire generation was pulled from the music of the day to something new. I'm not sure if we have had any watershed bands since Nirvana (which I hate). You can diss MJ all you want and claim to know people with more talent, but he made a huge impact on the world of music. If you go to any pop concert today you will see a spectacle, not just a group of musicians on stage. MJ was the one who really pushed to make concerts an event. Dancers and Pyro to make it more like a show were not around before this guy. Some groups had a couple of dancers on stage, but nothing with the correography that MJ started. To think otherwise is just plain ignorant.
Was he a weirdo? yup. Was he a child molestor? Highly probable. Is he also the highest selling single artist with the highest selling album of all time? Yup. At 24 years old! How accomplished in your field were you at 24? Look at some of today's artists that are twittering and sending out condolences. They consistantly name him as one of their biggest influences.
BareGreg. You say I should get a life. Excuse me, but I thought this thread was about MJ dying of a heart attack. So, I put in my 2 cents about it. For you to say good riddence within hours of him dying shows a lack of taste and I call you on it. I didn't red dot you, as I still can't remember how. Someone did.

I realized that. I think I linked him to a friend who was born in Sept that year too.
People look at who he was today. He was a powerhouse of talent in the 70's and 80's especially. I guess he still had it on some level. Frankly, having the type of childhood celebrity he had does not make for a normal psych profile.

Jackson Family -- Demerol Shot Caused Death
A close member of Michael Jackson's family has told us Jackson received a daily injection of a synthetic narcotic similar to morphine -- Demerol -- and yesterday he received a shot at 11:30 AM.
Family members are saying the dosage was "too much" and that's what caused his death.

Michael Jackson Doctor -- MIA
Posted Jun 26th 2009 10:00AM by
TMZ Staff
We've learned law enforcement is looking for a doctor who lived at Michael Jackson's home -- and the doctor is nowhere to be found.
Law enforcement sources tell us a BMW belonging to the doctor was towed from Jackson's home last night.
Cops are looking to interview the doc.
A law enforcement source says the doctor gave Jackson an injection before he died.
Jackson reportedly may have OD'd on Demerol. As we first reported, family members were concerned that Jackson was taking too much morphine.

While there has been much right-wing criticism of Michael Jackson's life, I
give you "Dale & Holley" on WEEI-FM, in Providence, RI, let's not forget
that the good Lord is the ultimate Judge of all that goes on in this world.
Having said that, may God rest Michael Jackson's soul, eternally, and may
he find the peace that he never had here on Earth, in the Kingdom of the Lord.

There is now some speculation that the cause of Jackson's death was Lupus - the autoimmune disease he was diagnosed with in 1986. One of its effects is heart disease such as atherosclerosis, pericarditis, myocarditis, and endocarditis and frequently causes sudden massive heart attacks in people in their 40s and 50s with little or no warning.

Indeed, last week was a very hard and trying time for both Hollywood and the music industry. Last Tuesday, Ed McMahon died at age 86 due to multiple health problems. Two days later, actress Farrah Fawcett Majors passed away at age 62 after a second and long bout with cancer which re-emerged. And finally on last Thursday, the incredibly talented Michael Jackson died suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack at the young age of 50. It has always been said that celebrities die in threes, but I don't think we have ever had this happen. I mean having three celebrities of this caliber dying in a 2-day time span. Regarding Michael Jackson, it is just so hard to believe that he is gone. I think most of us grew up with his music one way or another. I am 43 and have been listening to his music since I was like 5 or 6. So, I went through all of my elementary school, junior high school, high school and college years growing up and dancing to his music. That was when I could dance! Anyway, whether he liked him as a person or not, he was a part of all of our lives as well as a major influence one way or another. I understand he was bit eccentric and a lot of behavior was questionable, but we in no way can take away his accomplishments in the music business. He has labeled "The Elvis Presley" of our decade and generations by many people. It was very sad about the accusations launched against him of alleged child molestation, as it is something we will never know if he did it or not. As many people, including his family members, have said,he will live in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten. R.I.P., Mr. Jackson!

Unqualified post. If you didn't like the guy at least have some sympathy for the family.
And what makes you qualified to make these judgements?
Whatever dude. Give me all the reds you want. The guy was a nut case.
If it makes you feel better by spanking my behind by giving me a red, you need to get a life.
The guy was a child molester. Convicted -> NO
But anyone with half a brain knows he was guilty.

I personally didn't care for the guy in his later years, due to his unusual antics and lifestyle. But that said, I do respect what he did to the music industry. He raised the bar on standards that have yet to be matched by most others. His Thriller video, the "Moonwalk", his excellent dancing abilities, his extraordinary entertainment antics, all contributed to the point, that he set the standard that have yet to be matched. He was a true "showman". To that, I will give him credit.
You could see from the early years, he possessed a true talent with his Brothers. But since "Ben", his popularity raised to the point, he was the envy to all other entertainers. His music will live on in his memory. To bad, but his unusual lifestyle in his later years will also be the asterisk for his accomplishments.:smoking:

Yes, we are all entitled to our opinions but in a public forum to post callous and insensitive statements about the death of someone is a clear indication of one's real character. Such opinions should be kept to oneself.
Michael Jackson was an icon, the king of pop, and thrilled millions of fans with his music. I am one of them. He was a very talented man and despite his eccentric ways, he was still a person with sensitivities. He was never proven to be a child molester and I, personally, don't think he ever did anything inappropriate with any of the young children he was with. Instead, I think he did fairly well considering he never had a childhood and was raised with a tyrannical father who dominated, controlled and abused him as well as his siblings. He offered the world a lot of music, prose, and dance routines. He was an entertainer. It is sad he left this world so soon.

The guy was WEIRD, no doubt. Even if his actions were always as innocent (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1196009/Im-better-dead-Im-How-Michael-Jackson-predicted-death-months-ago.html) as he and his supporters have claimed, what it indisputably known about him is still cringe-worthy. While I do agree that usually "where there is smoke, there is fire", it seems to me that the strongest argument in his favor is that if ANYONE was ever going to be the target of false accusations of pedophilia for monetary gain - there would be no better target than Michael.
When the world loses a great talent like Michael's it is a tragedy. Regardless of whatever else may be true or suspected about him.

Love him or not, as I have posted on another site, three children are now without a father. No matter what he did, their grief is still real. The gossips are proudly  announcing that they were not his biological children, but I say who cares? Biology does not make one a father. Their feelings do not make that distinction.
I wish well and pray for the three children who have lost their father.
