View Full Version : We've gone full circle on pubic hair

The pictures from some 1956 nudist club activities show that we've come full circle on pubic hair. Back in those days, they were airbrushing it out. Today, the majority seem to be removing it before it's pictured. If you have any doubt, look at the guys playing volleyball. Their penises are largely airbrushed out.

Pubic hair didn't start being allowed in publications until 1969. I remember because I was in Vietnam most of that year, and Playboy models started showing up with pubic hair. Now, they're back to having none.

I remember those days! Women largely didn't shave until several years later. I don't care for the "shaved " look, I like hair.

That's not airbrushing: it's a little-known fact that men didn't have penises until the 1960s. It wasn't allowed. ;)

Still not allowed. They've grown those little black boxes that shake around in front of their penises.

I was thinking it was the reverse. Everyone had pubic hair in the 70s and 80s. Then shaving was the craze--complete shaving that is. Now it seems that pubic hair is "fashionable" again.

I like it. It looks more normal on an adult. It seemed that people were shaving to look younger. To me, it made women seem "too young"--not my thing. I don't mind the shaving to tame the wild look, but not all of the way.

Really?

I haven't noticed much "new growth". Could this be a regional thing?

Remember the late 60s? The "hippies" of Haight Ashbury section of San Francisco and Greenwich Village in New York City? It was all about hair. Long hair. Body hair. Even the folk rock musical "Hair" in 1969 which was the first musical that featured full frontal nudity was all about hair.
I think all this shaving fad started with textiles shaving for the skimpy bikinis.
But I could be all wrong about this.
I prefer the natural look.

In the musical "Hair" the stage lights on the actors who became nude happened for only a minute. The stage play "Oh Calcutta" around that same time period, revealed nudity without any reservations throughout the play.

I prefer a more natural look. Nothing against people who like shaving but it makes people look a bit too young, almost childlike in their appearance. By the same token, having too much hair where it seems that they are trying to grown an entire jungle is not appealing to me either.

I am fine though with those who trim their pubic hair. So either normal or trimmed pubic hair looks nicer to me than either being completed shaved or being too hairy.

IMHO, I think people shaved completely to regain youth. Little kids had no hair so an adult with no hair would look younger. WRONG. Its gross to me.

I have grown up. I want a woman, not a girl! Women have hair. Trim it if you must but don't shave completely.

Are there not enough "shaving vs. anti-shaving" threads here, lets not make this another one please.

Oh, come on! If you take that attitude, most of this board would be dead.

I don't shave my pubes. Never did. To me is just one more chore and makes a mess. But for those who like to be shaved, fine! It makes no difference to me. I do like women who have shaved. The skragly bush to me is not sexy but a shaven woman, especially younget ones, to me is very sexy. Just a presonal preference.

You are right, what was I thinking. We all need to talk more about shaving, size, cut or not, erections, were would this thread be without all those topics? Now if you will excuse me I have to go shave my wifes non-surgically enhanced area, and I hope that my circumcised penis will not become erect while I do it.

nimrod, i do believe we always need to keep an open mind but that was a fantastic reply. Thanks for the laughs! Bill

Hey, no problem, I am glad you found the humor in it.

Good to see you're OK with humour; not sure about irony though!

I disagree. People have all kinds of hairstyles on their heads. Why is it that the pubic region is off limits? I could care less what someone does to their own body. Different strokes for different folks.

I agree on that one 110%. I shave my pubic region and my chest. I also shave my armpits and trim my arm and leg hair. I also "manscape" my face leaving a "chinstrap" that I shave around and keep trimmed; so what? It's personal preference because I like the way it looks.

Personally, I appreciate all types, from the wild jungle to the barren desert. My wife has done all kinds for me.

Don't you find it worrisome if it is shaved to make them look pre-puberty age? To me that is crossing the line.

No. I actually like the shaved look and have a clear definition of what is too young to look at with any sort of twinge in the old heart. My wife keeps herself nice and trim and occasionally shaved. Her OBGYN told her that many of her clients do it to keep cooler in the summer and reduce the heady odor that can occur when you're outside in the heat riding a bike or doing a lot of yardwork with the constriction of clothing. For people who can go nude all day it's probably not a problem. For me, sitting on a riding mower for 2-3 hours can build up a real set of sweaty twins and I usually have to change when I'm done because my butt has sweated thru my shorts.

Now, if a girl or boy is shaving in order to decieve someone else into thinking that they are younger it's a whole different ball of wax.:disappointed:

Otherwise for me it's a preference for the smooth look. I don't like facial hair either and shave it off. I don't do it to look younger, I do it because it bugs me.

Would you consider that middle aged men should not have long hair or ponytails because they might be trying to look younger? It's all personal preference.

Shaving keeps you cooler??? Interesting. I have hair down there. I never have just sweated just where the hair is. I don't feel hot under the hair. Even in 100 degree weather, I'm not sweating just there. When I sweat, it is everywhere. When I'm hot, I'm hot everywhere. Only a fan or A/C will cool me off in the summer!

Hmmm - to look younger - I wonder if losing the hair on my head (not due to me shaving it either!) makes me younger!

I've gone both ways. Shaved feels very nice, but the maintenance is a nightmare! And I hate the irritation of ingrowns. I tend to trim very close and leave it at that.

Each his/her own I say! I tend to see more nudists shaved/trimmed.

At different times both me and my dad have had beards and moustaches. When those were shaved off lots of people said it made us look younger. That makes sense since I think both of us originally grew the moustache and beard to look older.

Just being the messenger for her OBYGN.:D

She does not like me to shave, so I don't. My butt still sweats when I'm on the riding mower. :p

I recall from my callow youth-the early to mid 1960s-that "nudist" publications showed full frontal nudity while the "men's" magazines were still in the B&B era.

My wife really does not like the fact that I enjoy removing all my body hair but my eyebrows, but I feel it is my body! She does not like the idea that I shave my head either, but I do, again its my body! I could care less what others think of what I do, shaving my body or otherwise. My wife does not shave her pubes completely, but instead keeps them trimed to keep them from getting stuck in the panty liners or the elastic of her panties. She knows that I would prefer a complete shaven look as I just love the look on any woman.

Her body, her way.... my body, my way!

I think it's curious that so many people shave these days. Young folks call a fully-shaved crotch the "porn star trim," by the way.

I don't think that I've ever heard that before. For most of my friends a shaved or trimmed bush was seen as normal and a bush was known as a "70s bush."
