View Full Version : RIP Billy Mays
Of all the people who passes this week, only Billy Mays had an active career going on and for me that makes his passing more tragic and a bit closer to home. Tomorrow, I will be wearing a blue shirt to honor someone who was in my house more than many three-dimensional people and who knew how not to take himself seriously. Sure, he was loud and sold products I'd never buy, but you could tell he simply loved and believed in what he was doing.
Though they don't know the cause of death for sure, let's all remember that if we're knocked on the head, to have it checked out.

Wow . . . shocking. This entire week has been shocking. A social media frenzy. Billy Mays was famous for his infomercials selling household products such as OxyClean. He was also fairly young... wow.

TAMPA — Billy Mays, the TV pitchman whose trademark voice helped sell everything from cleaning supplies to baking soda, was found dead this morning by his wife at his Tampa home. No cause of death has been reported and no foul play is suspected, according to Tampa police.
Mays, 50, was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. at 2853 Bowen Daniel Dr., #1201. His wife, Deborah Mays, found him unresponsive this morning. The Medical Examiner's Office will complete Mays' autopsy by tomorrow afternoon.
"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days," Deborah Mays said in a statement today. "Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."
Mays was a passenger Saturday of the 737 aircraft that took a hard landing at Tampa International Airport, an airport spokeswoman said.

Another unexpected celebrity death. I watched an interview of him after the emergency aircraft landing. He said that he had been hit in the head by a piece of luggage that had come flying out of an overhead compartment. He joked it off by saying he had a hard head, but later on he was complaining of feeling groggy. Hopefully everyone will take this as a warning to have things checked out if someone has a blow to the head and starts feeling strange later on.
I don't watch much television, but he was one of a kind with all the energy he brought to his activities. It's a shame something so random happened to him.

I know someone who's brother died the night after a flight from Japan to Denver. He had a brain aneurysm. The coroner thought that the long flight at compression had contributed to the death, but was not able to conclude without a doubt.
Maybe Billy died the same way? Could also have been a concussion that led to brain bleeding. We'll see.
RIP.

He was quite the dude....he seemed to be a great, hardworking guy trying to get along. I hope he's remembered for being a great entrepreneur.

He was the same age as Michael Jackson! How sad and tragic once again!

I thought he was a great salesman. He had a flare for selling just about anything.
I feel that it is in bad taste to keep running his commercials on T.V. I feel sad when I watch them now, and I can only imagine how his wife, family, and friends feel when they seem him on T.V. only a few days after his death.
Well, remember, that was his life, so while it might be tough to watch, it might be comforting too. We have an answering machine outgoing message of a deceased relative that hasn't been replaced in my family. It's our only recording of his voice. It's weird when it picks up when we call, and it's the only time we'll hear the voice that was with us for so long.

I suspect they will find it sad when he is no longer on TV.
He was the King of the Pitchmen, those spots are his legacy.

He was a great pitchmen. May in Rest in Peace. Heart disease is believed to be the reason for his sudden death.
